Abstract

The invention relates to a spatially and energy resolving particle detector having a high maximum count rate. The sensitive volume of the particle detector is divided in the three spatial directions, where the division of the volume causes a multiplicity of radiation-sensitive detector individual cells to be formed. The dimensions of the detector individual cells resulting from the divisions are dimensioned such that the maximum count rate of the respective detector individual cell is not exceeded and an overall thickness of the detector is achieved that guarantees that the particle or the radiation is absorbed in the overall volume of the detector with a probability that is sufficiently high for the respective application.
