Abstract

This invention describes a portable booster highchair that erects quickly and easily from a compact collapsed position.

Description

Portable Booster Hiahchair Patent Description
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Portable booster highchairs are especially useful while travelling due to their compact size. While travelling with an infant, parents often have to transport a lot of equipment and a vehicle can become
overloaded. This invention relates to a portable high chair that collapses into a compact envelope.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
There is a need for a compact booster highchair that has a small envelope for storage, and that has a tray, that folds up neatly with the product. Conventional booster highchairs have separate frays that remain loose when stored.
Portable booster highchairs often require assembly which is not user friendly. There is a need for a portable booster highchair that can be erected with one hand and collapsed quickly and easily without the need for assembly.
DESCRIPTION
The invention describes a portable booster highchair which comprises a combination of leg elements [la] and [l b] which are connected by a common axel [2] at essentially one end of each element such that when folded each element adapts a parallel configuration and when in use adopts a predominantly A frame configuration. ,
Said assembly of leg elements [l a] and [l b] have a tray [3] attached to the common axel [2] such that when in use the tray [3] adopts predominantly a forward and largely horizontal position. When folded the tray [3] adopts a generally parallel position to the leg elements [l a] and [1 b] and is also aligned with or between said leg elements. The leg elements [l a] and [l b] extend above the seating surface such that they provide lateral and side support for the child.
Supported by the leg elements [l a] and [l b] is an assembly and plurality of seat elements [4] which when in use adopt a stable and essentially horizontal configuration suspended between an axel position [5a] on the forward leg element and an axel position [5b] on the rearward leg element. When folded the plurality of seat elements rearrange above or below the axel position [5] and [5b] and between the leg elements [l a] and [l b].
r
Supported by the assembly of leg elements [l a] and [l b], tray [3] and seat elements [4] is a back support element [6] which is axially associated to a leg element and or seat element. When in use this acts to support a child and when folded adopts a position essentially parallel with said leg elements [l a] and [l b].
Said back support [6] is adjustably connected from the upper portion of the rear leg element [l b] with connection means [7] to facilitate variation in seat support angle.
Said back support [6] includes a grip or handle position housing a lock release. The lock release is connected to the leg elements such that when operated the user can erect the assembly of elements with one hand suitable and ready for use. An alternative location for the operating mechanism is on the common axel [2].
An alternative operating mechanism [FIG 4] comprises of a push button [9] which through a series of connecting and engaging elements enable the folding condition or locking condition when in use.
THE DRAWINGS
FIG. 1 shows the booster highchair in its erect configuration, suitable for use by a child.
FIG. 2 shows the booster highchair in its collapsed configuration, suitable for transport or storage.
FIG. 3 shows an isometric view of the booster highchair. FIG.4 shows an isometric view of the operating mechanism.
The following statements set out certain preferred features and characteristics of the invention.
1 ) A portable booster highchair which comprises a combination of leg members [l a] and [l b] and a tray [3] which adopt a common axis [2].
2) A folding seat [4] comprised of a series of elements that lock the leg members [l a] and [l b] into an A-frame configuration.
3) A backrest element [6] that is adjustably connected from the upper portion of the rear leg element [l b]. ) The product erects automatically in one hand, with the
operating system located in the backrest element [6]. An alternative is to have the operating mechanism located on the common axel [2]. ) The foot elements [8] slide on the leg elements [l a] and [l b] in order to adjust the length of the said leg elements. ) The leg members [l a] and [l b] extend above the seating
surface [4] to provide side support. ) Said booster highchair that folds to adopt a compact envelope. ) An operating mechanism [FIG 4] which comprises of a push button that engages or disengages with the tray [3] and leg elements [l a] and [l b] to enable folding components to collapse or lock into an erect position. ) Automatic folding is achieved with spring elements.

Claims

THE CLAIMS
1 ) It is claimed a portable booster chair comprising a plurality of leg, seat, back rest and tray elements configured such that leg element (la) and (l b) and tray (3) are connected through a common axel (2) and that a seat comprising two pivotal elements, one rear (5b) and one forward (5a) element where the forward element (5a) is also axially connected to the forward leg (l a) and the rear element (5b) is connected axially to the rear leg (l b) and that both seat elements are axially connected to each other by way of pivot point (4) such that seat element can adopt a ridged seat surface and fixed connection between the forward and rearward legs when in use and that when folding the seat elements can move upwards into a V shape configuration generally parallel with the legs. Further a seat backrest pivotally linked to the rear seat panel. The plurality leg, seat, backrest and tray when spread form a stable seat structure and when folded all elements align substantially parallel with each other and within the dimensional envelope of the legs ( 1 a and 1 b) and common axel (2)·
2) As claimed in ( 1 ) a removable tray comprising a tray panel adjustably connected to tray mountings which are assembled to the common axel (2) with the legs and lockable ih the in use condition.
3] As claimed in ( 1 ) and (2) having a locking assembly within the backrest which locks the
backrest in the open condition and alternatively in the closed and folded condition.
4) As claimed above having foot elements (8) which are slide-able on the legs (la) and (l b).
5) As claimed in (1) having leg elements (la) and (l b) which extend above the seat elements (5a) and (5b) so as to provide side supports for the child.
6) As claimed in ( 1 ) being compact foldable with the tray, seat and backrest are within the dimensional envelope of the support legs (la) and (lb).
7) As claimed in ( 1 ) also having a connecting strap link between the tray and the front edge of the forward seat element which can be disconnected from the forward seat element and reconnected to the seat back element to hold the folded condition.
