Abstract
In accordance with the present inventive concept, there is provided a method for controlling a converter arrangement connected to a DC link, the arrangement comprising a converter branch for a respective phase of the converter, the converter branch comprising a plurality of converter legs, each converter leg being switchable between a positive rail of the DC link and a negative rail of the DC link in accordance with a plurality of switching configurations, wherein said converter branch may assume a plurality of switching states, each having a different number of converter legs connected to the positive rail of the DC link, the method comprising: determining a real power reference and a reactive power reference, estimating a real power and a reactive power provided by the converter arrangement for each switching state of the plurality of switching states based on a Thevenin reduced model of the converter branch, determining a switching state of the plurality of switching states based on a real power reference, a predicted real power, a reactive power reference and a predicted reactive power, and selecting a switch configuration of the plurality of switching configurations based on said switching state.
