Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention relate to a method and device for multi-rates handover in live broadcast. An Internet Protocol television reception method includes: obtaining ability set information of a live broadcast channel, wherein the ability set information contains the unicast address of the live broadcast channel; sending an access request for obtaining the live broadcast channel by the unicast address in order to receive the live broadcast channel in the form of unicast; in the process of receiving the live broadcast channel in the form of unicast, obtaining access parameters and choosing an appropriate rate according to the access parameters; releasing the link for receiving the live broadcast channel in the form of unicast; according to the chosen rate, sending an access request for obtaining the live broadcast channel in the form of multicast, and receiving the live broadcast channel in the form of multicast. By embodiments of the present invention, it can be realized that a user chooses the rate and receives the live broadcast channel in the form of multicast according to the access parameters, such as the access bandwidth and decoding ability, so that the load of a network device is effectively reduced and the complexity of user choice and operation maintenance when the live broadcast service is provided is also reduced.
