Description

Goods protection holding unit for the wired goods protection equipment of portable devices requiring electric energy supply
The subject of the invention is a goods protection holding unit for the wired goods protection equipment of portable devices requiring electric energy supply, which comprises a basic body that can be attached to the display storage place and a connecting member that can be attached to the portable device in a fixed position, where the basic body has a first joining unit, while the connecting member has a second joining unit fitting the first joining unit, and the basic body and the connecting member are connected to each other via the first joining unit and the second joining unit co-acting with it, in a separable way, and the basic body is connected to a central signal-transmitting cable, where the central signal-transmitting cable has at least an information forwarding wire and/or a positive supply wire, a negative supply wire and/or an earth-wire, while the connecting member has a sensor part-unit, and the sensor part-unit is in contact with the portable device when the connecting member is in use.
Due to the development of trade and sales techniques an increasingly more frequently used solution is that the devices for sale are put on display at the storage places or on the display counters of the points of sale. However, in the case of "unsupervised" goods display the products had to be protected against unlawful appropriation. Wired goods protection systems have been developed in order to reach this aim, which are based on the idea that a connecting member with a sensor is attached to the displayed product, which is connected to an alarm centre via an electric signal-transmitting cable, and it emits an interference alarm, if the connecting member is removed or damaged. Such wired goods protection equipment is described for example in patent specification no. WO 2008/088698, while publication document no. US 2007/0164860 and patent specification no. WO 2008/088699 describe a goods protecting holding unit also including a connecting member placed on the product to be protected.
However, in the case of electric energy operated devices that can be regarded as articles of general consumption, such as video cameras, digital cameras, mobile telephones, MPS and MP4 players it soon turned out that customers intend to test such devices before making a decision on buying them. Because of this it was necessary to develop goods protection equipment, in the case of which besides protecting the goods against misappropriation the battery ensuring energy supply to the device is also charged up. Such holding units having access to charging current are described in patent specifications no. US 6.386.906 and US 6.896.543.
However, in the case of the known solutions having access to charging current and/or information signal it is a general deficiency that the energy source is continuously charged, as there is a non-releasable connection between the central power source and the energy source or battery of the portable device.
A further disadvantage of this permanent form of wired charging is that it represents a significant load on the battery of the portable device, which deteriorates sooner because of this. On the other part the longer cable results in a greater charging loss, which represents a significant loss of energy in the case of several displayed devices, taking into consideration the long opening hours of the stores.
It is also a disadvantage that in the case of the charging and/or information-transmitting cable arrangement establishing ordinary permanent connection, because of the size of the cable joining the connecting member it is more difficult to test the portable device, it reduces the customer's feeling of comfort, which has an unfavourable effect on consumer acceptance.
With the solution according to the invention our aim was to eliminate the deficiencies of the known constructions and to create a goods protection holding unit with a simpler construction, which reduces the electric energy demand needed for charging, minimises the use of the battery of the portable device and makes it easier for the customers to test the portable device.
The goods protection holding unit according to the invention is based on the idea that in the cable establishing permanent connection between the goods protection centre or one of its sub- centres and the protected portable device there are numerous electric signal-transmitting wires or twin wires, in which there is no need for continuous electric signal transmission, temporary connection would be enough between the centre/sub-centre and the portable device, so the commonly used thicker cable can be separated into two parts, one of which continues to ensure continuous uninterrupted signal transmission between the centre/sub-centre and the portable device, while the other one has an easily interruptible contact, and so the portable device, when it is lifted up, is not even present in the cabling of the goods protection system.
On the basis of the inventive idea, the construction according to the invention is based on the recognition that if the connecting member and basic body of the goods protection holding unit is constructed unlike the known constructions, in such a way that both in the basic body and the connecting member novel, releasable electric conductor contact elements are placed, which are suitable for transmitting optional electric signals, but can be easily separated from each other, then an intermittent electric connection can be established between the basic body and the connecting member, which does not require continuous cable connection in respect of the given electric signal transmission, and so the diameter of the cable absolutely necessary for the protection of the goods against misappropriation between the connecting member attached to the portable device and the goods protection centre can be reduced, as a result of which its flexibility and aesthetic appearance can be improved, and because of the shorter length of the charging cable the charging current loss on the cable is also reduced, and so the task can be solved.
In accordance with the set aim, the goods protection holding unit according to the invention for the wired goods protection equipment of portable devices requiring electric energy supply - which comprises a basic body that can be attached to the display storage place and a connecting member that can be attached to the portable device in a fixed position, where the basic body has a first joining unit, while the connecting member has a second joining unit fitting the first joining unit, and the basic body and the connecting member are connected to each other via the first joining unit and the second joining unit co-acting with it, in a separable way, and the basic body is connected to a central signal-transmitting cable, where the central signal-transmitting cable has at least an information forwarding wire and/or a positive supply wire, a negative supply wire and/or an earth-wire, while the connecting member has a sensor part-unit, and the sensor part-unit is in contact with the portable device when the connecting member is in use - is constructed in such a way that the basic body has at least one current- carrying basic contact suitable for receiving and transmitting electric signals and/or at least one signal-transmitting basic contact, while the connecting member has at least one current- carrying support contact also suitable for receiving and transmitting electric signals and/or at least one signal-transmitting support contact independent from but co-acting with the current- carrying basic contact and/or signal-transmitting basic contact of the basic body, and the current-carrying support contact and/or signal-transmitting support contact of the connecting member is connected with a supplementary signal-transmitting cable, where the free end of the supplementary signal-transmitting cable opposite the connecting member has a joining unit that can be connected to the contact series of the portable device, and so when the goods protection holding unit is in use and the basic body and the connecting member are in resting condition, between the central signal-transmitting cable and the portable device a connection is established via the current-carrying basic contact of the basic body and the current-carrying support contact of the connecting member temporarily contacting the current-carrying basic contact of he basic body, and/or via the information-transmitting basic contact of the basic body and the information-transmitting support contact of the connecting member temporarily contacting the information-transmitting basic contact of he basic body, which connection can be released and then re-established, and is suitable for transmitting electric energy and/or signals.
A further criterion of the goods protection holding unit according to the invention may be that the current-carrying basic contact of the basic body is connected to the positive supply wire of the central signal-transmitting cable, while the current-carrying support contact of the connecting member is connected to the positive pole of the energy source of the portable device via the supplementary signal-transmitting cable, and the earth-wire of the central signal-transmitting cable is connected to the negative pole of the energy source of the portable device either directly or via the supplementary signal-transmitting cable, and in this way the energy source of the portable device is put on charge in the normal position of the goods protection holding unit.
In the case of another version of the goods protection holding unit, besides the current- carrying basic contact the basic body has a supplementary basic contact, while besides the current-carrying support contact the connecting member has a supplementary support contact co-acting with the supplementary basic contact, either the current-carrying basic contact or the supplementary basic contact of the basic body is connected to the positive supply wire of the central signal-transmitting cable, while the other one is connected to the negative supply wire of the central signal-transmitting cable, either the current-carrying support contact or the supplementary support contact of the connecting member is connected to the positive pole of the energy source of the portable device via the supplementary signal-transmitting cable, while the other one is connected to the negative pole of the energy source of the portable device via the supplementary signal-transmitting cable, and in this way the energy source of the portable device is put on charge in the normal position of the goods protection holding unit.
In the case of another different realisation of the invention the information-transmitting wire of the central signal-transmitting cable is connected to the signal-transmitting basic contact of the basic body, while the signal-transmitting support contact of the connecting member is connected to the product identification compartment of the portable device via the supplementary signal-transmitting cable, and the earth-wire of the central signal-transmitting cable is also connected to the product identification compartment of the portable device either directly or via the supplementary signal-transmitting cable, and the in this way, in the normal position of the goods protection holding unit the product identification compartment of the portable device is connected to a central information handling unit.
In the case of a further different realisation of the goods protection holding unit the basic body has at least one current-carrying basic contact suitable for receiving and transferring electric signals and at least one signal-transmitting basic contact, the signal-transmitting basic contact is connected to the information-transmitting wire of the central signal-transmitting cable, while the current-carrying basic contact is connected to the positive supply wire of the central signal-transmitting cable, the connecting member has a current-carrying support contact co- acting with the basic body's current-carrying basic contact and a signal-transmitting supporting contact that can be connected to the basic body-s signal-transmitting basic contact, the current-carrying support contact is connected to the positive pole or the negative pole of the energy source of the portable device via the supplementary signal-transmitting cable, while the signal-transmitting support contact is connected to the product identification compartment of the portable device via the supplementary signal-transmitting cable, and in this way the energy source of the portable device is put on charge in the normal position of the goods protection holding unit, while with the help of the central signal-transmitting cable the product identification compartment of the portable device can be read by the central information handling unit.
In the case of a further embodiment of the invention the sensor part-unit of the connecting member is connected to the goods protection cable, and via the goods protection cable the connecting member is connected to the central information handling unit.
From the aspect of the goods protection holding unit it may be favourable, if the current- carrying basic contact and/or the signal-transmitting basic contact is placed in the environment of one of the joining units of the basic body, while the current-carrying support contact and/or the signal-transmitting support contact is placed in the environment of the other joining unit of the connecting member.
The goods protection holding unit according to the invention has numerous favourable characteristic features. The most important one of these is that due to the novel releasable electric signal-transmitting connection between the basic body and the connecting member it is possible to solve the charging of the portable device in a simpler and more efficient way, ensuring the protection and increasing the lifetime of the battery of the portable device at the same time. Another advantage is that when using the version with several contacts, the wired connection between the basic body and the connecting member of the goods protection holding unit can be omitted, or a more flexible and more aesthetic cable of a smaller cross- section can be used, which makes it easier to use the goods protection holding unit and also improves the appearance of the storage space.
An additional advantage - not to be disregarded - deriving from the above is that the more aesthetic environment and the possibility of the simple testing of the portable devices has a favourable effect on consumer acceptance, which may result in improved sales.
A further advantage is that the fewer number of wired connections - with respect to the possibility of broken cables - represents a fewer number of failure possibilities, so the operation of the goods protection holding unit according to the invention is more reliable, and its maintenance demand is lower that that of the traditional versions.
It is also an advantage that the novel goods protection holding unit can be easily integrated in traditional goods protection equipment, so its use does not require the replacement of the entire equipment, it is enough to remove the ordinarily used goods protection holding unit and insert the version according to the invention.
Obviously, in the case of the reconstruction of the already existing goods protection equipment, a part of the traditional full permanent wired connection between the goods protection centre or sub-centre ad the protected portable device, e.g. the supply cable or a part of it, and, in a given case, some of the information-transmitting wires need to be changed and disconnected between the basic body and the connecting member of the goods protection holding unit. However, this intervention does not require any special skills, it can be realised in a quick and simple way, and as a result of this, even in the case of old goods protection equipment, the maintenance demand may reduce significantly.
Below the goods protection holding unit according to the invention is described in detail in connection with construction examples, on the basis of drawings. In the drawings figure 1 is the lateral view of a possible version of the goods protection holding unit according to the invention, in built-in condition, partly in section,
figure 2 is the view of figure 1 taken from direction II, partly in section,
figure 3 is the schematic view of another version of the goods protection holding unit according to the invention,
figure 4 is the schematic view of a further different version of the goods protection holding unit according to the invention,
figure 5 is the schematic view of an even further different embodiment of the goods protection holding unit according to the invention.
In figure 1 and figure 2 a version of the goods protection holding unit 2 according to the invention can be seen, in which the basic body 10 is attached to the display storage place 3 in a fixed position, while the connecting member 20 is attached to the portable device 1 , which is a mobile telephone in this case, in a fixed position.
The connecting member 20 contains the sensor part-unit 4, which is attached to the portable device 1 on the one part and connected to the central information handling unit 5 - not shown in figures 1 and 2 - on the other part via the goods protection cable 50. Furthermore the connecting member 20 includes the current-carrying support contact 21 and the supplementary support contact 22, which are connected to the fixed end 42 of the supplementary signal- transmitting cable 40. The free end 41 of the supplementary signal-transmitting cable 40 opposite its fixed end 42 has a joining unit 43, which fits into the contact series I d of the portable device 1 . The positive pole lb and negative pole lc of the energy source l a of the portable device 1 is connected to the contact series Id in a way known in itself, and so the current-carrying support contact 21 of the connecting member is connected to the positive pole l b of the energy source l a of the portable device 1 via the supplementary signal-transmitting cable 40 ad the contact series I d, while the supplementary support contact 22 of the connecting member 20 is connected to the negative pole l c of the energy source l a of the portable device 1 via the supplementary signal-transmitting cable 40 and the contact series I d, in a way allowing electric conduction. The basic body 10 has a current-carrying basic contact 1 1 and a supplementary basic contact 12, which are connected to the central signal-transmitting cable 30 in such a way that the positive supply wire 31 of the central signal-transmitting cable 30 is attached to the current-carrying basic contact 1 1 , while the negative supply wire 33 of the central signal- transmitting cable 30 is attached to the supplementary basic contact 12.
Figure 1 also shows that the current-carrying basic contact 1 1 and supplementary basic contact 12 of the basic body 10 are both situated at the bottom of a first joining unit 14 forming a truncated cone envelope shaped dent each. In the environment of the current- carrying support contact 21 and the supplementary support contact 22 the connecting member 20 has a second joining unit 24 each with a shape and size suiting the shape and size of the first joining unit 14. In this way, the second joining units 24 here are truncated cone envelopes protruding from the connecting member 20 in the direction of the basic body 0. The co-acting first joining unit 14 - second joining unit 24 pairs make it possible for the connecting member 20 placed on the basic body 10 to slide in such a way as to enable the current-carrying basic contact 1 1 to meet the current-carrying support contact 21 and the supplementary basic contact 12 to meet the supplementary support contact 22 in each case.
During the use of the goods protection holding unit 2 shown in figure 1 and 2 the connecting member 20 sitting on the basic body 10 is positioned in such a way that the current-carrying basic contact 1 1 and the current-carrying support contact 21 touch each other in a way ensuring electric conduction, similarly to the supplementary basic contact 12 and the supplementary support contact 22. In this position the central signal-transmitting cable 30 negative supply wire 33 - supplementary basic contact 12 - supplementary support contact 22 - supplementary signal-transmitting cable 40 - joining unit 43 - contact series I d - energy source l a negative pole l c - energy source l a positive pole lb - contact series I d - joining unit 43 - current-carrying support contact 21 - current-carrying basic contact 1 1 - central signal-transmitting cable 30 positive supply wire 31 electric connection is closed, and so the central signal-transmitting cable 30, as a supply cable, can charge the energy source l a of the portable device 1 until the portable device 1 is lifted up from the basic body 10. When the portable device 1 is lifted up, the second joining units 24 of the connecting member 20 emerge from the first joining units 14 of the basic body 10, and the current-carrying support contact 21 moves away from the current-carrying basic contact 1 1 of the basic body 10, while the supplementary support contact 22 moves away from the supplementary basic contact 12. In this position the charging of the energy source l a is interrupted and suspended until the portable device 1 is placed back onto the basic body 10. In this case the second joining units 24 of the connecting member 20 fit into the first joining units 14 of the basic body 10, and so the first joining units 14 guide the second joining units 24 sliding down along their surface to their place. As a result of this, in the end the connecting member 20 rests on the basic body 10 in the right position, and the current-carrying support contact 21 sits on the current-carrying basic contact 1 1 , while the supplementary support contact 22 sits on the supplementary basic contact 12.
Figure 3 shows an embodiment of the goods protection holding unit, where the energy source l a of the portable device is charged in a different way. Here the basic body 10 has one single current-carrying basic contact 1 1 , which - in the normal position of the goods protection holding unit 2 - is temporarily connected to the one single current-carrying support contact 21 of the connecting member 20. Obviously the connecting member 20 is attached to the portable device 1 in this case too.
However, in the case of this embodiment of the invention only the positive wire 31 of the central signal-transmitting cable 30 is connected to the current-carrying basic contact 1 1 of the basic body 10, while the earth-wire 32 of the central signal-transmitting cable 30 avoids the basic body 1 0 and is connected directly to the connecting member 20. The current-carrying support contact 21 of the connecting member 20 and the earth-wire 32 "extension" together are connected to the portable device 1 via the supplementary signal-transmitting cable 40.
In the case of this embodiment of the goods protection holding unit 2 the energy source l a of the portable device is charged up according to the following. In the normal position of the goods protection holding unit 2 the stream of electrons is realised via the route central signal- transmitting cable 30 earth-wire 32 - connecting member 20 - supplementary signal- transmitting cable 40 - energy source la negative pole l c - energy source l a positive pole l b - supplementary signal-transmitting cable 40 - current-carrying support contact 21 - current- carrying basic contact 1 1 - central signal-transmitting cable 30 positive supply wire 31 , and so the energy source l a is able to take on a charge during the period while the connecting member 20 - together with the portable device 1 - rests on the basic body 10.
The solution shown in figure 4 offers an example of a different use of the goods protection holding unit 2. In this case the portable device is charged up via the goods protection holding unit 2. In the given embodiment the central signal-transmitting cable 30 starts from the central information handling unit 5, and the information-transmitting wire 34 of the central signal- transmitting cable 30 is attached to the signal-transmitting basic contact 13 of the basic body 10, e.g. by soldering, in a way enabling electric conduction. The signal-transmitting basic contact 13 of the basic body 10 is in a temporary and separable connection with the signal- transmitting support contact 23 of the connecting member 20, and this signal-transmitting support contact 23 is connected to the portable device 1 via the supplementary signal- transmitting cable 40.
So while the information-transmitting wire 34 of the central signal -transmitting cable 30 gets to the supplementary signal-transmitting cable 40 through the signal-transmitting basic contact 13 - signal-transmitting support contact 23 interruption, the earth-wire 32 of the central signal-transmitting cable 30 goes directly to the sensor part-unit 4 of the connecting member 20. A branch of this earth-wire 32 then joins the supplementary signal-transmitting cable 40 and gets to the portable device 1 in this way. Through the supplementary signal-transmitting cable 40, as the extension of the earth-wire 32 and the information-transmitting wire 34 of the central signal-transmitting cable 30, the central information handling unit 5 is connected to the product identification compartment le of the portable device - in the normal position of the goods protection holding unit 2 by this enabling the central information handling unit 5 to read the product identification compartment le of the portable device 1. By making it possible to read the product identification compartment l e of the portable device 1 , and with the help of the product specific data stored in the given product identification compartment l e numerous sales promotion services can be realised, which, however, does not form a part of this invention.
In figure 5 a further embodiment of the goods protection holding unit 2 according to the invention can be seen, which is different from the embodiments described above. Here the basic body 10 contains a current-carrying basic contact 1 1 and a signal-transmitting basic contact 13, while the connecting member 20 contains a current-carrying support contact 21 co- acting with the current-carrying basic contact 1 1 and a signal-transmitting support contact 23 co-acting with the signal-transmitting basic contact 13. The current-carrying basic contact 1 1 of the basic body 10 is attached to the positive supply wire 31 of the central signal- transmitting cable 30, while the signal-transmitting basic contact 13 is attached to the information-transmitting wire 34 of the central signal-transmitting cable 30. The earth-cable 32 of the central signal-transmitting cable 30, as an element of the goods protection cable 50 joining the connecting member 20, is directly connected to the connecting member 20. The connecting member 20 is connected to the portable device 1 - in the ordinary way - via the supplementary signal-transmitting cable 40. Through this supplementary signal-transmitting cable 40 the energy source l a of the portable device 1 is charged up on the positive pole l b and on the negative pole l c on the one part, and on the other part the content of the product identification compartment l e is read.
Obviously, besides the current-carrying basic contact 1 1 and the signal-transmitting basic contact 13, the basic body 10 can also have one or more supplementary basic contacts 12, similarly to the connecting member 20, which can contain one or more supplementary support contacts 22 besides the current-carrying support contact 21 and the signal-transmitting support contact 23. As the supplementary basic contact 12 is connected to the earth-cable 32 of the central signal-transmitting cable 30, which electric signal forwarding task is also performed by the goods protection cable 50 itself, in this case the functions such as charging up the energy source la of the portable device 1, reading the product identification compartment l e and switching on the sensor part-unit 4 protecting the portable device 1 against misappropriation can be separated from each other completely. At the same time it is important to point out that the solution according to the invention - supported by the examples described above - is not restricted to one single embodiment.
The solution covers all embodiments, in which the central signal-transmitting cable 30 starting from the central information handling unit 5, or from a part-unit performing an equivalent task or partial task, is not connected to the protected portable device 1 with a non- releasable connection, but with a temporarily closing and easily releasable connection, via contacts establishing electric connection, fitted in the basic body 10 and connecting member 20 of the goods protection holding unit 2. With this solution, in respect of any of the functions such as charging up the energy source la of the portable device 1 , reading the product identification compartment l e or an additional task not related to actual goods protection, the individual tasks can be performed more easily and more reliably, and the protected portable device 1 itself can be displayed and introduced in a simpler way.
The goods protection holding unit according to the invention can be favourably used at locations, where portable devices, the operation of which requires electric energy, are offered for sale, so that the portable devices protected against misappropriation can be tested during operation.
