Description

DESCRIPTION
PROTECTIVE BREAST CAGE
Subject Matter of Invention
This invention relates to a protective breast cage that is designed to protect the injury from infection and external factors during the recovery period after a mastectomy (surgical removal of the breast) due to breast cancer or another reason; to monitor, evaluate, and speed up the healing of the injury; and to increase the quality of life of the patient by making her psychologically comfortable during the process.
Prior State of the Art
One of the most important health problem of our day is cancer. Breast cancer is the second most frequently observed type of cancer, following lung cancer. Although it can be seen in men too, it is 100 times more likely to be seen in women. Breast cancer can necessitate mastectomy (surgical removal of the breast) . Patients who have undergone this operation go through a painful treatment and recovery period. Loss of a breast can also be caused by reasons other than breast cancer, e.g. another disease or an accident.
For example, the invention that is the subject matter of the patent no US2009/036023 relates to a bra which does not contain any prosthetics and which is made of fabric that can be opened from the front. Due to the change in the body shape and in order to improve patient psychology, prosthetics were placed in the bra that is the subject matter of the utility model no 2006/00054. The invention that is the subject matter of patent no US2002/121273 relates to a bra that surrounds the whole body and supports the recovery process as well as decreasing the risk of infection.
In the state of the art, women use prosthetic containing bras after the surgical operation. Reinforced bras help alleviate the psychological burden of patients due to the change in their body. Nevertheless, these bras cannot be used during the recovery and treatment processes after the operation. These prosthetic supported bras can be started to be used after 4 to 6 weeks from the operation, once the injury are healed. Thus, they do not provide a solution during the painful month following the operation.
One of the most important issues during the recovery period is to isolate the injury from external factors and preventing it from being infected. Patients currently protect their injuries from external factors and infections by gauze bandage applied to on the injury. Nevertheless, patients experience pain and irritation during dressings, when gauze bandages are changed. These irritations prolong the recovery and cause further pain. Meanwhile, patients are psychologically affected negatively from the physical change in their body.
To overcome the problems in the prior state of the art as explained above in detail, a protective breast cage that is designed that protects the injury from infection and external factors during the recovery period after a mastectomy (surgical removal of the breast) due to breast cancer or another reason; that helps monitor and evaluate the healing of the injury; and that eliminates the need for gauze bandage changes . Detailed Description of the Invention
This invention is about a protective breast cage that is designed to protect the injury from infection and external factors during the recovery period after a mastectomy (surgical removal of the breast) due to breast cancer or another reason; to monitor, evaluate, and speed up the healing of the injury; and to increase the quality of life of the patient by making her psychologically comfortable during the process.
The protective breast cage that is the subject matter of the invention has a convex shape that starts from the cleavage and narrows as it gets closer to the armpit. Steel, plastic, metal, bamboo, wood, or other alloys can be used as the material for the cage skeleton (1).
Within the scope of this invention, the fabric (2) that will be used in the protective cage which will cover the cage skeleton (1) and which will be air permeating and semi- transparent can be of natural, synthetic, or artificial origin. With the use of smart fabrics that are manufactured via nanotechnology, one of the most advanced technologies today, the fabric that is used in the structure of the breast cage, assumes many properties. Since the fabric (2) is semi- transparent, the injury can be watched during the recovery process .
The edges of the cage skeleton (1) are coated with silicon (3) to eliminate irritation when it is in contact with the patient's skin.
Due to its convex shape, the protective breast cage (1) starts from the cleavage and narrows as it gets closer to the armpit. Thus, it surrounds the injury but does not contact with it while it protects the injury from external impacts. Since the injury does not need application of gauze bandages, irritation that can occur when gauze bandages are removed are eliminated and this speeds up the recovery process.
For aesthetic reasons, anti-bacterial sponge can be added on top of the fabric (2) that will be used in the protective cage, which is the subject matter of the invention.
The protective breast cage that is the subject matter of the invention can be used by attaching it to the bra with a single clasp that is attached to it.
The size of the protective breast cage can be adjusted to any size .

Claims

A protective breast cage that is designed to help during the physical and psychological recovery processes after a mastectomy due to breast cancer or another reason; comprising protective cage skeleton (1), air permeable and semi-transparent fabric (2) that covers the cage skeleton (1), and silicon (3) that coats the cage skeleton .
The protective breast cage mentioned in Claim 1; characterized in that it extends from the cleavage to the armpit, narrows as it gets closer to the armpit, thus has a convex shape.
The protective breast cage mentioned in Claim 1; characterized in that the cage skeleton (1) is manufactured from steel, plastic, metal, bamboo, wood, or other alloys.
