L'appareil selon l'invention comprend : une unité de recherche et de stockage de données de brevets permettant d'accéder à une base de données de brevets, de rechercher des données de brevets correspondant à une demande de recherche et de télécharger et stocker des données obtenues suite à la demande de recherche; une unité de normalisation de données de brevets destinée à normaliser les données de brevets stockées en fonction de catégories d'analyse respectives et à générer une méta-base de données par catégorie d'analyse; une unité de calcul de similarités définissant une matrice d'occurrences simultanées par catégorie d'analyse au moyen du nombre de métadonnées apparaissant simultanément parmi les données de brevets respectives dans les informations à partir de la méta-base de données, ou au moyen d'une fréquence d'occurrences et par la création d'une matrice de similarités présentant les similarités entre les données de brevets par catégorie au moyen de la matrice d'occurrences simultanées; une unité de visualisation de réseau en étoile global dessinée à sélectionner deux catégories parmi les catégories d'analyse et à établir un axe x et un axe y, à sélectionner une des données de brevets et à la placer au point d'origine puis, au moyen de la matrice de similarités correspondant à la catégorie d'analyse sélectionnée, à visualiser les emplacements, les distances ou les interconnexions des données de brevets respectives sur un réseau en étoile global, en fonction des similarités entre les données de brevets situées au point d'origine et des données de brevets restantes; et une unité de commande destinée à commander la visualisation de similarités entre les données de brevets sur le réseau en étoile global par l'accès à la base de données de brevets, l'obtention et le téléchargement de données de brevets, par la création d'une méta-base de données par catégorie d'analyse pour les données de brevets respectives et par l'utilisation de la méta-base de données pour extraire une matrice d'occurrences simultanées et une matrice de similarités pour chaque catégorie d'analyse.
