Abstract

The invention can be used in the mining industry for the purpose of surveying rocks. It provides for a greater level of information as a result of the possibility of detecting differently oriented fractures in a geological medium. Essence of the invention: the method includes placing on the Earth's surface, outside the boundaries of a survey area (1), seismic detectors (2) which form a system by which scanning points (3) can be surveyed. Each of the detectors consists of an areal receiving aperture (4) and an areal transmitting aperture (5), in which corresponding transmitting and receiving points are evenly distributed. According to the invention, on the basis of the focusing transformation of the transmitted and the received seismic wave field, a three-dimensional matrix of the energy values of the scattered waves is obtained and an azimuthal vector diagram of the normalized energy of the scattered waves is constructed for each given scanning point of the body of rock being studied. In this diagram the vector directions are perpendicular to the lines of sight of the detectors passing from the centre of the receiving apertures of each detector to a given point, and the scalar quantity of the vector is equal to the normalized energy of the scattered wave. The aforementioned diagram is identified with a rose fracture diagram in which the vector with the maximum scattered wave energy value is taken as the main direction and the vector with the minimum scattered wave energy value is taken as the secondary direction.
