Abstract

The invention relates to an apparatus and a method for storing thermal energy, comprising a loading device (12), a storage medium (4), an insulating device (3, 7) and a heat exchanger (14), wherein the loading device (12) can be connected to a heat source and/or a heat sink and is designed for feeding heat to the storage medium (4) and/or extracting heat from the storage medium (4), and the insulating device (3) is designed for insulating the storage medium (4) from its surroundings (13), and the heat exchanger (14) is designed for allowing a heat exchange between the storage medium (4) and its surroundings (13), wherein the storage medium (4) forms at least part of an inner wall of a building and a heat transfer medium can be thermosyphonically circulated between the storage medium (4) and the heat exchanger (14).
