Abstract

A support apparatus (4) is provided for use with a backpack having shoulder straps (8a, 8b). The support apparatus (4) is configured to transfer, in use, at least a portion of the rearward acting forces imparted by the shoulder straps (8a, 8b) of the backpack, to the wearer's chest (12) region. In one respect, the support apparatus (4) is arranged to redistribute or divert the rearward acting forces from the backpack shoulder straps (8a, 8b) from their conventional position against the shoulders, and/or against the sides of the upper chest (and/or from the strap and clip across the front of the upper chest to the central area of the upper chest (12)), to a location above the base of the ribcage and below the top of the wearer's shoulders.
