Description
FAN WHEEL WITH DEFLECTING MEANS FOR IMPURITIES
Description
The invention refers to a fan wheel according to the preamble of claim 1 , which is particularly suited for a commercial cooking device, such as a combi steamer. Such a fan wheel or fan impeller is known from EP 1 530 682 B1 as well as from DE 102 39 246 being the priority application of said European application.
The known fan impeller includes fan impeller blades, on the outer face of which at least one elevation is arranged and/or formed, which is formed spaced from a base plate of the fan impeller and extends away from the base plate, substantially in a diagonal direction from a front edge to a rear edge of the fan impeller blades.
Therewith, it shall be possible that solid and/or liquid particles, in particular grease particles, contained in the air circulated by the fan impeller are not directly radially deflected by the fan impeller. The elevation on the outer faces of the fan impeller blades stop the solid and/or liquid particles hitting same, such that it shall be possible that devices arranged directly radially about the fan impeller, in particular a heating device inside the cooking apparatus, are not polluted by the particles contained in the air.
However, this embodiment is technically problematic as far as it requires a modification of the fan impeller blades due to the arrangement of the mentioned elevations on the outer face. Since the fan impeller blades are only attached on the outer face, the generic fan impeller, in addition, can be operated only in one direction of rotation with the same effect.
From DE 103 15 341 , a cooking apparatus is known which comprises a radial fan wheel, on the blades of which a rotating separator for separating particles from the atmosphere in the cooking chamber are respectively provided. Therewith, problems similar to those of the generic state of the art occur.
DE 102 34 214 B4 discloses a cooking apparatus having an integrated grease separator. For this purpose, a disc is arranged between a rear wall of the cooking chamber and the fan wheel, which is formed such that the heating device arranged about the fan wheel is substantially completely covered by the disc with respect to the rear wall. Finally, from EP 0 615 069 B1 , a fan wheel for a circulating radial fan of a cooking chamber is known, which is provided at least between some of its blades with splitters arranged spaced from a support disc, wherein the splitters, together with the support disc and respectively adjacent, radially arranged and straight blades, form a nozzle device for generating a gas flow directed radially outwards near the support disc.
From DE 10 2005 047 457 A1 , a device for cleaning cooking area climate in form of a fan wheel is known, which comprises a plurality of blade units, wherein each blade unit consists of at least two blades which can be referred to as base blade and cover blade and which have a planar and/or a spatially curved surface. The base blade has at least
one collection profile which has a concave surface for collecting particles in the centrifugal direction. The cover blade can be positioned opposite to the direction of rotation of the fan wheel in a predetermined distance with respect to the base blade. It is therefore an object underlying the present invention to provide a fan wheel of the type defined in the preamble of claim 1 , the structure of which is simplified with respect to the generic fan wheel and which nevertheless enables a secure deflection of impurities to avoid that they hit the heating device of a commercial cooking apparatus. This object is solved by the features of claim 1.
Due to the inventive embodiment, it is at first achieved that the deflecting means may fulfil its principle function, according to which is securely deflects impurities in the air supplied to the heating device, and simultaneously reinforces the overall structure of the inventive fan wheel, since it is formed as a reinforcing profile.
Further, the inventive embodiment of the fan wheel prevents that modifications have to be made at the fan wheel blades, since the deflecting means are not provided on one of the surfaces of the fan wheel blades as in the generic state of the art, but separated from the fan wheel blades between the base plate and the cover plate. For this purpose, the deflecting means or each reinforcing profile associated with the fan wheel blades, respectively, maintain a radial distance toward the outer edge of the fan wheel blades, which in addition has the advantageous effect that the reinforcing profiles of the deflecting means can be formed as an air supply means which deflects the air flowing off the fan wheel blades aerodynamically and thus at least reduces turbulences of the off-flowing air, such that the air resistance in total is decreased. This, in turn, has the advantageous effect that the driving power of the motor of the fan wheel can be decreased without reducing the power of the fan wheel, which finally results in considerable energy savings.
In addition, it is advantageous that the reinforcing profiles can also be used as retrofitting components for already existing fan wheels, since the fan wheel blades themselves do not have to be modified, since the reinforcing profiles are an
independent additional component for the fan wheel blades, which can also be integrated retrospectively into existing fan wheel constructions.
The sub-claims comprise advantageous further developments of the invention.
In order to further enhance the deflecting function of the reinforcing profiles, same are preferably arranged in an angle inclined with respect to the longitudinal fan wheel center axis. In particular, said inclination is provided toward the center and the base plate of the fan wheel, i.e. inwardly, wherein, in a further preferred embodiment, the outer edge of the fan wheel blades extends in parallel with the reinforcing profile, i.e. is inclined with respect to the longitudinal fan wheel axis in the same angle as the reinforcing profiles.
In principle, the reinforcing profiles can have different configurations. In any case, they form a trench, the length of which is determined by the distance between the base plate and the cover plate, since the trench extends from the base plate to the cover plate.
As already mentioned above, the reinforcing profiles are preferably formed aerodynamically efficient and may, in particular, have the shape of a drop or also a shape similar to that of a plane wing. Since all embodiments of the reinforcing profile are shaped in the form of trenches, they all have a suitable aperture for receiving the impurities flowing off from the fan wheel blades.
A further advantage resulting from the fact that the deflecting means are not formed or arranged on the fan wheel blades is that same can be formed straight and preferably flat or can maintain their straight and preferably flat configuration, such that the fan wheel can be operated reversibly, i.e. in both direction of rotation. This is not possible in particular with the fan wheel according to the generic state of the art, since the deflecting means are formed on only one of the two fan wheel blade surfaces in the prior art device.
Further details, advantages and features of the present invention become apparent from the following description of embodiments on the basis of the drawing, in which
Fig. 1 shows a sectional top view on an embodiment of the inventive fan wheel for clarifying different variants of reinforcing profiles, wherein a cover plate of the fan wheel is not visible due to the position of the sectional drawing; Fig. 2 shows a perspective partial view of the fan wheel according to Fig. 1 ;
Fig. 3 shows a plan view on a portion of the inventive fan wheel according to Figs. 1 and 2; and Fig. 4 shows a detail of the inventive fan wheel in the region of an outer edge of the fan wheel blade.
From a combination of Figs. 1 to 3, there results the basic structure of an inventive fan wheel 1 for a commercial cooking apparatus, in particular a combi cooker, which is, however, not shown in the drawings. The fan wheel 1 comprises a plurality of fan wheel blades, of which adjacent fan wheel blades are designated with reference numerals 2 and 3 representative for other fan wheel blades in Fig. 2. As is discernible from Fig. 1 , the fan wheel blades 2, 3 are arranged radially about a fan wheel center M on a base plate 4 on which they can e.g. be attached by mounting links 19 shown in Fig. 3. In this example, the fan wheel 1 comprises 12 of those fan wheel blades, as is discernible from Fig. 1 .
From the depiction of Fig. 2, there results that the fan wheel blades 2, 3 are arranged between the base plate 4 and a cover plate or cover ring 5.
Each of the fan wheel blades 2, 3 comprises a first blade surface 6 and a second blade surface 7 which, as is e.g. shown in Figs. 1 and 3, face into opposite directions. During operation of the fan wheel 1 , the air to be directed from the fan wheel 1 to a heating device strikes these blade surfaces 6, 7. In this context, it has to be noted that the fan wheel blades 2, 3, as results from the figures, are formed straight and preferably flat and are arranged at least substantially in a right angle with respect to the base plate 4 and the cover plate 5. Due to the straight and preferably flat construction of the fan wheel blades 2, 3, it is possible to operate the fan wheel 1 reversibly, i.e. in opposite directions of rotation, such that, depending on the direction of rotation, the air strikes
either the first blade surface 6 or the second blade surface 7 and the air flow rate is maintained.
The fan wheel blades 2, 3 in addition comprise an outer edge 8 and an inner edge 9, as is specifically shown in Figs. 1 and 3. When viewed from the fan wheel center M in a radial direction R (see Fig. 1), the outer edge-8 faces radially outwardly, whereas the inner edge 9 faces radially inwardly toward the center M.
The inventive fan wheel 1 is further provided with deflecting means 10 which serve to separate impurities contained in the air supplied by the fan wheel 1 or its fan wheel blades 2, 3. These impurities are mainly grease or oil particles which escape from the cooked food during the cooking process and mix into the air supplied by the fan wheel 1. In order to prevent that these grease or oil particles or other impurities are tossed onto the (not shown) heating device surrounding the fan wheel 1 , the already mentioned deflecting means 10 are provided, which comprises in this example a plurality of reinforcing profiles 10A, 10B, 10C. Each of the provided fan wheel blades 2, 3 is associated with a reinforcing profile 10A, 10B, 10C, such that in this example of 12 fan wheel blades 12 such reinforcing profiles are provided accordingly. Fig. 1 shows three different embodiments for such reinforcing profiles which are designated with reference numerals 10A, 10B or 10C. In this context, it has to be noted that Fig. 1 shows these three different reinforcing profiles only as an example for simplifying the illustration at a fan wheel 1. In the actual embodiment of the fan wheel 1 , respectively only one type of reinforcing profile per fan wheel blade 2, 3 is provided, i.e. either the reinforcing profile 10A for all fan wheel blades or the reinforcing profile 10B for all fan wheel blades or the reinforcing profile 10C for all fan wheel blades.
The reinforcing profile 10A is formed as an arrow tip in the plan view. The reinforcing profile 10B is insofar a preferred embodiment, since it has an aerodynamically advantageous shape, wherein the free end portions 12, 13 (see Fig. 1 ), contrary to the shown embodiment, can also be formed bent toward each other for enhancing the aerodynamics. The embodiment 10B is sort of a representative for aerodynamically advantageous profiles, such as e.g. drop shapes or also profiles similar to plane wings.
The reinforcing profile 10C is formed in a U-shape.
All reinforcing profiles form trenches extending from the base plate 4 to the cover plate 5, as is clearly shown in Fig. 2. The end portion 18 of the reinforcing profiles 10A, 10B or 10B respectively resting on the base plate 4 corresponds to recesses 14, 15, 16 or 17, which are also shown as examples in Fig. 1. These recesses 14 to 17 define the discharge of the particles, in particular oil particles, respectively collected in the reinforcing profiles 10A, 10B, 10C, wherein the arrangement of the reinforcing profiles radially outside the outer edge 8 of the fan wheel blades 2, 3 guarantees that the collected and discharged particles do not strike the heating device surrounding the fan wheel.
Figs. 3 and 4 clearly show that a radial distance A is maintained between the outer edge 8 of each of the fan wheel blades and the associated reinforcing profile, which distance can be different depending on the application, but has a value larger than 0.
Further, each of the reinforcing profiles 0A, 0B and 10C is formed inclined by an angle a with respect to the longitudinal fan wheel center line L, which is designated in Fig. 3 by the cross L. In Fig. 4, this longitudinal center line L is shifted in parallel into the external region of the fan wheel 1 in order to show the angle of inclination a more clearly.
As is discernible from Fig. 4, the outer edge 8 of the fan wheel blades 2, 3 preferably extends in parallel with the respectively associated reinforcing profile 10A, 0B or 10C, such that this outer edge 8 is inclined by the same angle a with respect to the longitudinal center line L.
As already mentioned above, the embodiment of the inventive fan wheel 1 results in the advantage that the fan wheel blades 2, 3 do not have to be modified, since the deflecting means 10 formed by the plurality of reinforcing profiles associated with the fan wheel blades 2, 3 are not arranged on the fan wheel blades but on the base plate 4 and are attached thereon, such that the configuration of the fan wheel blades 2, 3 is completely unaffected by the arrangement of the deflecting means 10.
In addition to the above written disclosure of the invention, reference is made expl to the drawings in Figs. 1 to 4.
