Abstract

The present invention provides an apparatus for driving a light emitting diode lamp, capable of improving and increasing the power efficiency, power factor and harmonic component through a stable drive of the LED with a simple circuit configuration. The prevent invention comprises: a power supply unit for supplying a stabilized, half wave rectified AC power; an LED array group having a plurality of LED groups arranged in series, with the LED array group being connected in parallel to the power supply unit and composed of at least one LED; a reference voltage generator, which is connected in parallel to the power supply unit and supplies a reference voltage to a switching block via the operation of a bipolar junction transistor (BJT); the switching block, which is equipped with (n-1) BJT switches for a plurality of LED groups in the LED array group per half cycle of an input voltage to the power supply unit, receives the reference voltage from the reference voltage generator and a constant current from an output constant current source to drive the switches in half cycle intervals of the input voltage such that a peak current is controlled for each LED group with respect to the reference voltage and the LED groups are thus sequentially turned on; and the output constant current source, which is connected between the LED array group and the switching block and supplies a constant current to the plurality of BJTs through a current mirror circuit.
