Description

Description
A DISHWASHER THE WASHING EFFECTIVENESS OF WHICH IS INCREASED
[0001] The present invention relates to a dishwasher the washing performance of which is increased.
[0002] In dishwashers, the washing process is realized according to programs selected by the user or selected by a control unit automatically depending on the amount, dirt levels and type of the dishes. The delicate program is selected for example when only less dirty glasses are to be washed, providing the glasses to be washed with extra softened water at low temperature thus preventing scratching. Or the intensive program is selected for very dirty pots, providing them to be washed at high temperature for a long period of time.
[0003] Nowadays, in dishwashers, it is preferred to adjust the washing program automatically by using sensors that can detect the amount, place and dirt level of the dishes placed in the racks. Thus, for example when dishes are detected to be placed in only one rack, the spray arm that sprays water only to that rack operates, hence unnecessary water consumption is prevented. In some embodiments, the type, dirt level or the place of the dishes are detected by looking at the light reflected from the dishes by means of the camera or light generator disposed inside the tub and the dishes are washed with the appropriate program.
[0004] In the state of the art United States Patent Document No. US2007272272, a dishwasher is explained that comprises a reader unit which detects how many dishes are loaded on which rack and the dimensions of the dishes by observing the reflection rate of the radio frequency signals sent. In the said dishwasher, after detecting how many dishes are loaded on which rack, the washing parameters like the amount and temperature of water and the amount of detergent are adjusted automatically.
[0005] In the state of the art United States Patent Document No. US2009071508, the dishwasher is explained wherein the amount and position of the dishes are detected by the turbidity sensor, optical sensor or the electromagnetic sensor. The dishwasher comprises movable water spray arms that provide water to be sprayed on the dishes by moving to the zone where there is greater load value of the dishes.
[0006] In the state of the art International Patent Document No. WO20091 14348, the dishwasher is explained, that has a wash ware detector that can detect the type of the dishes to increase the drying effectiveness and to provide the best energy consumption. In this embodiment, whether the dishes are made of glass, porcelain or plastic material is detected by a temperature or air flow sensor by means of the thermal conductivity of the materials being different thus heating or cooling more quickly. The dishes are dried at the appropriate temperature and steam pressure depending on the type of materials they are made of.
[0007] However, in these state of the art embodiments, type of the dishes cannot be detected accurately when different types of dishes are placed side by side. Most of the time the dark colored glass items can be detected as pots or long service utensils like ladle, knife placed in the glass rack can be detected as only metal objects being present on the rack thus resulting in operating the intensive washing program. Water is heated too much unnecessarily for the glassware that are washed in the intensive program and energy is consumed by washing for a long period time thereby consumer dissatisfaction increases due to the glasses being scratched.
[0008] The aim of the present invention is the realization of a dishwasher wherein the washing process is performed with the suitable program by detecting the type of the dishes.
[0009] The dishwasher realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a control unit that provides some amount of hot water to be delivered on the dishes before washing and the different temperatures reached to be detected by a thermopile due to the thermal conductivities of the dishes materials being different. The information of which material heats up and how much and in which time duration it is heated up is recorded in the memory of the control unit. The thermopile detects how much the dishes, whereon hot water is sprayed, heat up from their generated radiation. Thus, the control unit can determine the type, amount of the dishes and how they are positioned and regulates the washing program accordingly. [0010] In an embodiment of the present invention, one of the thermopiles is disposed on the ceiling of the washing tub and the other on the base. Thus, the thermopile on the ceiling detects the temperature differences of the dishes on the upper rack and the thermopile on the base detects the temperature differences of the dishes on the lower rack.
[001 1] In another embodiment of the present invention, the thermopile is
disposed on the rear wall of the washing tub and detects the heat radiations generated by the dishes on both of the racks.
[0012] In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit provides warm and soft water to be delivered to the rack whereon glassware is detected and hot and hard water to be delivered to the rack whereon dishes made of metal material is detected.
[0013] In another embodiment of the present invention, the control unit provides the dishes to be washed at low temperature for a long period of time if the control unit detects that fragile dishes are beside the dishes made of material preferred to be washed at high temperature.
[0014] In another embodiment of the present invention, if the control unit detects that there are a lot of dishes from a material and the others are less in a rack, the control unit provides the same material dishes to be placed on the same rack by warning the user.
[0015] By means of the present invention, the type of the dishes is detected by the thermopile from the heat radiations generated due to the hot water delivered thereon. Consequently, the control unit provides the dishes to be washed in the appropriate program depending on the type, amount and positioning of the dishes.
[0016] A dishwasher realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
[0017] Figure 1 - is the schematic view of a dishwasher.
[0018] The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
1. Dishwasher
2. Washing tub
3. ,103. Rack
4. , 104. Spray arm 5. Control unit
6. Thermopile
[0019] The dishwasher (1 ) of the present invention comprises a washing tub (2) wherein the washing process is performed, at least one rack (3, 103) wherein the items to be washed are placed, at least one spray arm (4, 104) providing water to be sprayed on the dishes and a control unit (5) that provides the washing program composed of the washing, rinsing and drying steps to be controlled (Figure 1 ).
[0020] The amount and dirt level of the dishes are taken into consideration when a washing program is selected by the user or when a washing program is automatically started by the control unit (5). The washing process is performed by spraying water with the temperature and pressure in accordance with the selected program.
[0021] The dishwasher (1 ) furthermore comprises at least one thermopile (6) disposed in the washing tub (2) so as to see the dishes, which detects the point temperature (Tn) of the dishes from the thermal radiation generated and the control unit (5) that respectively
- provides water to be sprayed on the dishes placed in the racks (3, 103) for a period of time (tref) recorded in the memory thereof and at a temperature (Tref) recorded in the memory thereof at the start of the washing step,
- determines the heating amount (ΔΤ) of the dishes whereon hot water is sprayed in the time period (tref) recorded in the memory thereof by using the point temperature (Tn) data received from the thermopile (6),
- determines the type, position and amount of the dishes by comparing the heating amount (ΔΤ) of the dishes in the time period (tref) recorded in the memory thereof with the reference heating amount (ATref) of the different types of dishes.
[0022] The control unit (5) of the present invention regulates the washing program in accordance with the type, position and amount of the dishes
determined.
[0023] The control unit (5) provides the amount of water recorded in the memory thereof to be heated until reaching the temperature (Tref) recorded in the memory thereof before starting the washing program. The heated water is sprayed to the dishes on the racks (3, 103) by the spray arms (4, 104). The dishes can be made from various materials like glass, porcelain, wood or metal. The thermal conductivities of these materials are different from each other. For example, the thermal conductivity of glass is 1.1 W/(m.K); of aluminum 120 W/(m.K); of stainless steel 30 W/(m.K, of plastic
(polymer) 0.25 W/(m.K) and of air 0.025 W/(m.K). The heating amount of these materials (ATref =T-To) shows the temperature (Tn) difference reached from the ambient temperature (To) when subjected to heat at a certain temperature for a certain time period (tref). Therefore, the temperatures (T) reached by these materials are different from each other whereon water is sprayed of certain amount and at certain temperature (Tref). The thermopile (6) detects the thermal radiations generated by these materials that have reached different temperature (T) values. In the meantime, the air inside the washing tub (2) is not yet heated since hot water is sprayed only for the time period (tref) recorded in the memory of the control unit (5) and the thermal conductivity of air is very low. The racks (3, 103) are not heated with the sprayed water either because their thermal conductivities are low. Consequently, the thermopile (6) easily detects the thermal radiations generated by the dishes which have greater thermal conductivity and hence are heated more than the air or the racks (3, 103).
[0024] The data in the memory of the control unit (5) relating to which
temperature (Tref) values are reached within a certain time period (tref) by the recorded materials due to their thermal conductivities is recorded. The control unit (5) determines the type, the amount of dishes and which type of dishes are placed where by comparing these data with the point temperature (Tn) data received from the thermopile (6) some time after spraying hot water to the dishes. The control unit (5) regulates the washing program in accordance with the data of the dishes determined by making changes in parameters like the suitable water temperature, the duration of the program, the softness level of water and the amount of detergent.
[0025] In an embodiment of the present invention, one of the thermopiles (6) is disposed at the upper side of the upper rack (3) and the other below the lower rack (103).
[0026] In another embodiment of the present invention, the thermopile (6) is
disposed on the rear wall of the washing tub (2) so as to see the dishes in both of the racks (3, 103).
[0027] In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit (5) provides the dishes to be washed at low temperature for a long period of time upon detecting dishes that can be washed at high temperature are near the dishes that can be adversely affected by high temperature.
[0028] In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit (5) provides soft and warm water to be sprayed from the spray arms (4, 104) to the rack (3 or 103) containing glass material and hard and hot water to be delivered to the other when dishes made of glass material is detected in one of the racks (3, 103) and dishes made of metal material in the other one.
[0029] In another embodiment of the present invention, the control unit (5) warns the user upon detecting that there are more dishes of one type material but lesser amount of a different type of material. Thus, the user is provided to place dishes only from one type of material in the respective rack (3 or 103). When the user operates the dishwasher (1 ) again after arranging the positioning, the control unit (5) controls the type and positioning of the dishes again and starts the washing program with the suitable program.
[0030] By the thermopile (6) of the present invention, the different temperature (Tn) values reached due to the differences in thermal conductivity of the dishes is determined with the thermal radiation generated by them. The control unit (5) determines where which type of dishes are placed and in what amount by comparing the temperature (Tref) values reached within a certain time period (tref) by the different type of materials recorded in the memory thereof with the temperature (T) data measured by the thermopile (6). Consequently, the washing program can be performed in accordance with the type, amounts and positioning of the dishes thereby avoiding unnecessary water and energy consumption and providing effective cleaning. It is to be understood that the present invention is not linnited to the embodiments disclosed above and a person skilled in the art can easily introduce different embodiments. These different embodiments should also be considered within the scope of the claims of the present invention.
