Description

A contact unit for a high-voltage device
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention refers to a contact unit for a high voltage device, such as a tap-changer, comprising an elongated contact piece and a fastening device for fastening said contact piece in place in a housing, said housing having a first and a second side and a substantially circular opening to receive said elongated contact piece comprising two ends, wherein a primary end forms a connecting part arranged to receive a connection to a power supply, and a secondary end forms a contact part arranged to receive a contact.
BACKGROUND ART
The fastening procedure for fastening a contact unit to the housing of a high- voltage device, such as a tap-changer, requires the use of a special machine used to clamp the contact unit together with supporting devices in order to secure the contact to the housing. This fastening procedure makes the contact unit stacked permanently and in case there is a need to dismantle the contact unit from the housing, e.g. because the contact was not securely fitted to the housing, this needs to be done by mechanical work, e.g. sawing or grinding. The consequence is that the contact unit will be destroyed and has to be replaced by a new contact unit. The dismantling of the contact unit, by sawing or grinding, is also a time-consuming process, and there is also a risk that the dismantling of the contact unit causes cuttings in the housing, which must be avoided. In case there is a cutting in the housing, the complete housing might have to be replaced. Another disadvantage with the current fastening procedure is that it is time-consuming.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to simplify the fastening procedure for fastening a contact unit to a housing of a high-voltage device. It is also an object of the present invention to simplify the dismantling procedure of a contact unit from a housing of a high-voltage device.
This object is obtained by the contact unit initially defined, which is
characterised in that the elongated contact piece comprises an intermediate part including a waist having a wall formed as a first bevel, and that the fastening device comprises a first and a second holder element arranged to clamp the housing between them, wherein the first holder element is adapted to be mechanically connected to the elongated contact piece and has a surface adapted to be in contact with the first side of the housing, and the second holder element has a surface adapted to be in contact with the second side of the housing, the second holder element includes a first movable part and a second movable part, which together form an substantially circular opening adapted to partly enclose the waist of the elongated contact piece, the substantially circular opening is surrounded by a second bevel adapted to bear on the first bevel of the elongated contact piece so that the bevels form a wedge during fastening of the elongated contact piece to the housing, and a clamping device arranged to press the movable parts against each other during fastening of the elongated contact piece so that a force arises, by means of the wedge, which force acts on the elongated contact piece so that the first holder element and the second holder element are forced towards each other and thereby causes clamping of the housing between the first and second holder elements. By such a device a possible future dismantling of the device from the housing is significantly simplified and the device will not be destroyed. Another advantage is that when fastening the device to the housing, there is no need to distort the elongated contact piece in order to clamp it together with the fastening devices and thereby attach and secure the contact piece to the housing. A further advantage is that there is no need for the use of a special machine for handling the fastening procedure. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention the first holder element of the fastening device is arranged with a substantially circular opening for receiving an elongated contact piece, the elongated contact piece has a flange arranged adjacent to the waist and the first holder element is arranged to bear on the flange of the elongated contact piece. Further, each of the first and a second movable parts of the second holder element, comprises a bevelled part. The first and second movable parts of the second holder element are essentially equal in size and together the first and second movable parts of the second holder element form the second bevel. In this way, a strong wedge effect is achieved by pressing the first and second holder elements against each other, thereby causing a strong clamping effect, which strongly attaches and secures the elongated contact piece to the housing. According to a further embodiment of the invention the first holder element is arranged to be detachable from the elongated contact piece. Hence, the first holder element is interchangeable and the size of the surface, adapted to be in contact with the first side of the housing, of the first holder element can be varied in order to achieve a strong clamping effect between the first holder element and the second holder element.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, the first holder element is a solid, non-detachable, part of the elongated contact piece. Thus, the number of detachable parts is reduced.
According to further embodiments of the invention, the second holder element comprises one clamping device and the clamping device comprises one bolt connection. In this way, when tightening the bolt connection, the first movable part and the second movable part of the second holder element are forced against each other, and clamping of the housing between the first and the second holder element will be achieved. According to a further embodiment of the invention, the clamping device of the second holder element comprises two bolt connections arranged on different sides of the substantially circular opening formed by the first movable part of the second holder element and the second movable part of the second holder element. Thus, when tightening the bolt connections, the first movable part and the second movable part of the second holder element are forced against each other, and an improved clamping of the housing between the first and the second holder element will be achieved.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Figure 1 shows a cross section of a contact unit 1 comprising an elongated contact piece 2 fastened to a housing 3 by means of a fastening device 4, which comprises a first holder element 5 and a second holder element 6. The housing comprises a first side 14, a second side 15 and one or many openings arranged to receive the elongated contact piece 2.The elongated contact piece 2 comprises an intermediate part 7 including a waist 8 having a wall formed as a first bevel 9. The first holder elements 5 and the second holder element 6 are arranged to clamp the housing 3 between them, and the first holder element 5 is adapted to be mechanically connected to the contact piece 2. The second holder element 6 includes a first movable part 0 and a second movable part 11. Together, the first movable part 10 and a second movable part 11 of the second holder element 6 form a substantially circular opening adapted to partly enclose the waist 8 of the elongated contact piece 2. Each of the first movable part 10 and the second movable part 11 of the second holder element 6 comprises a bevelled part which together form a second bevel 12 substantially circular in shape. Each of the first movable part 10 and the second movable part 11 of the second holder element 6 are arranged with through holes 16. The substantially circular opening is surrounded by the second bevel 12 which is adapted to bear on the first bevel 9 of the elongated contact piece 2, so that the first and second bevels 9, 12 form a wedge when the elongated contact piece 2 is fastened to the housing 3. In this embodiment the first movable part 10 and second movable part 11 of the second holder element 6 are essentially equal in size. However, the first movable part 10 and second movable part 11 of the second holder element 6 may be of different sizes in another
embodiment. During fastening of the elongated contact piece 2 to the housing 3, the first and second movable elements 10, 11 of the second holder element 6 will be clamped by means of a clamping device 13 and thus the second bevel 12 will bear on the first bevel 9. In this way, a clamping effect is achieved wherein the first and second holder elements 5, 6 will tend to move in different horizontal directions and thereby achieve fastening of the contact unit 1 to the housing 3. Figure 2 shows an elevation view of the elongated contact piece 2, with a primary end 21 and a secondary end 23. The primary end 21 of the contact piece 2 forms a connecting part 22 arranged to receive a connection (not shown) to a power supply (not shown), and the secondary end 23 of the contact piece 2 forms a contact part 24 arranged to receive a contact (not shown). The contact piece 2 comprises an intermediate part 7 including a waist 8 having a wall formed as a first bevel 9. The contact piece 2 has a flange 27 arranged adjacent to the waist 8.
Figure 3 shows an elevation view of the first holder element 5 arranged with a surface 25 adapted to be in contact with the first side 14 of the housing 3, and the first holder element 5 is arranged with a substantially circular opening 26 for receiving the contact piece 2. The first holder element 5 is arranged to bear on the flange 27 of the elongated contact piece 2. Further the first holder element 5 is arranged to be detachable from the elongated contact piece 2. However, an alternative solution is that the first holder element 5 is a solid, non- detachable, part of the elongated contact piece 2.
Figure 4a shows an elevation view of the second holder element 6, arranged so that it surrounds the contact piece 2 prior to a fastening procedure. The second holder element 6 is arranged to partly surround the waist 8 of the contact piece 2 when the fastening procedure has been completed. The second holder element 6 has a surface 28 adapted to be in contact with the second side 15 of the housing 3 and the second holder element 6 includes a first movable part 10 and a second movable part 11. Together, the first movable part 10 and a second movable part 11 of the second holder element 6 form a substantially circular opening 29 adapted to partly enclose the waist 8 of the contact piece 2. The substantially circular opening 29 is surrounded by a second bevel 12 adapted to bear on the first bevel 9 of the contact piece 2 so that the first and second bevels 9, 12 form a wedge during fastening of the contact piece 2 to the housing. Through holes are arranged in each of the movable parts 10,11 of the second holder element 6 to receive the clamping device (not shown)
Figure 4b shows a side view of any one of the movable parts 10, 11 of the second holder element. Each of the movable parts 10, 11 of the second holder element 6 comprises a bevelled part. Together the bevelled part of the first movable part 10 and the second movable part 11 of the second holder element 6 form the second bevel 12 which is substantially circular in shape.
Figure 5 shows an elevation view of the contact unit 1 when it is assembled. The contact unit 1 is arranged to be used in association with a high-voltage device such as a tap-changer or a tap-selector. The contact unit 1 comprises an elongated contact piece 2 and a fastening device 4 for fastening the contact piece 2 in place in a housing (not shown) having a first side, a second side and one or many openings arranged to receive the elongated contact piece 2. The fastening device 4 comprises a first holder element 5 and a second holder element 6, and when the contact unit is assembled there is a gap 41 , between the first holder element 5 and the second holder element 6, adapted to receive the housing. The first holder element 5 has a surface 25 adapted to be in contact with the first side of the housing (not shown), and the first holder element 5 is arranged with a substantially circular opening (not shown) for receiving the elongated contact piece 2. The elongated contact piece 2 has a flange (not shown) arranged adjacent to the waist (not shown) and the first holder element 5 is arranged to bear on the flange of the elongated contact piece 2. The second holder element 6 is arranged so that it surrounds the elongated contact piece 2 prior to a fastening procedure. Further the second holder element 6 is arranged to partly surround the waist (not shown) of the elongated contact piece 2 when the fastening procedure has been completed. The second holder element 6 has a surface 28 adapted to be in contact with the second side of the housing and the second holder element 6 includes a first movable part 10 and a second movable part 11. Together, the first movable part 10 and a second movable part 1 1 of the second holder element 6 form a substantially circular opening (not shown) adapted to partly enclose the waist (not shown) of the elongated contact piece 2.
Figure 6 shows an elevation view of the contact unit 1 being fastened to a housing 3. The second holder element 6 and the primary end 21 of the elongated contact piece 2 is attached to the housing 3 having a first side 31 a second side 32 and one or many openings (not shown) arranged to receive the elongated contact piece 2. A clamping device 13 is arranged to press the movable parts 10, 1 1 of the second holder element 6 against each other during fastening of the elongated contact piece 2 so that a force arises, by means of the wedge. The clamping device 33 comprises a first 34 and a second 35 bolt connection, each comprising a bolt and a nut, arranged on different sides of the centre of the substantially circular opening 35, formed when the first movable part 10 of the second holder element 6 and the second movable part 11 of the second holder element 6 are connected by means of the clamping device 13. The first movable part 10 of the second holder element 6 and the second movable part 11 of the second holder element 6 are arranged so that, when the second holder element 6 surrounds the waist of the elongated contact piece 2, a space 36 is established, and thus a clamping effect will be achieved during the fastening procedure. By tightening the first 34 and second 35 bolt connection of the clamping device 13, a force acts on the elongated contact piece 2 so that the first holder element (not shown) and the second holder element 6 are forced against each other and thereby a force is transferred from the second bevel (not shown) of the second holder element 6 to the first bevel (not shown) of the elongated contact piece 2. Hence, by means of a wedge effect, clamping of the housing 3 between the first holder element and the second holder element 6 is achieved. An alternative solution of how to arrange the clamping device is to use a metallic strap, being arranged to encircle the first 10 and the second 11 movable part of the second holder element 6, for the purpose of clamping the movable parts 10, 1 1 together and thereby achieving a wedge effect between the elongated contact piece 2 and the second holder element 6. Figure 7 shows an elevation view of the tap-changer housing 3 arranged with contact units 1. The housing 3 is arranged with openings (not shown) extending from the first side 31 of the housing 3 to the second side 32 of the housing 3. The openings are arranged to receive elongated contact pieces 2 which are fastened, by means of the first 5 and second 6 holder elements of the contact unit 1 , which are thereby clamped and securely fastened between the first 31 and the second 32 side of the housing 3. The housing 3 is typically, but not exclusively, a housing of a high-voltage device such as a tap-changer or a tap selector.
