Abstract

The invention relates to a breakaway device for a traffic light pole and more particularly, but not exclusively, to a breakaway device to prevent damage to the foundation of the pole during an accident. In accordance with this invention there is provided a breakaway device that facilitates the breaking off of a traffic light pole from its base under a predetermined force on the pole, comprising an elongate body having a neck formation for failing on impact of a predetermined force so that the pole breaks away from the base without damaging the base.
