Description
DRINKING VESSEL BEING DIFFICULT TO TIP OVER
Field of the Invention The invention relates to a drinking vessel being difficult to tip over and comprising a base portion supporting an upwardly open vessel having an upper edge portion, which base portion comprises an anti-slip member on the side thereof facing a substratum.
Background of the Invention
Accordingly, the invention relates to a drinking vessel being difficult to tip over, and more precisely to a tumbler being difficult to tip over, particularly a tumbler that is utilized by, e.g., small children.
By, e.g., US 4,767,015 and US 5,158,193, it is known to provide the underside of the foot of a tumbler with an anti- slip member. The purpose of this anti-slip member is to enable that a tumbler does not slide on a substratum and possibly to prevent the substratum, such as a table surface, from being scratched . Summary of the Invention
An object of the invention is to provide a drinking vessel that is difficult to tip over, when mistakenly the same is knocked against, and that simultaneously does not easily slide on a substratum. Instead of the tumbler tipping over it should, according to the invention, slide on a substratum, e.g., a table surface, by means of a slide lip particularly arranged on the underside of the foot/base portion.
This object is achieved by a drinking vessel the base portion of which, on the side thereof facing the substratum, being provided with a slide lip situated radially externally of the anti-slip member, and by, along an axial line of the drinking vessel, at least a substantial part of the slide lip being situated radially outside an outer edge of the upper edge portion of the upwardly open vessel. Brief Description of the Drawings
The invention is described in more detail below in the form of a non-limiting example, reference being made to the
accompanying drawing, in which
- Fig. 1 is a side view of an inventive drinking vessel being difficult to tip over,
- Fig. 2 is a view obliquely from below of the drinking vessel in Fig. 1, and
- Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of a part of the base portion of the drinking vessel being difficult to tip over. Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments
In the description and claims below, the expression radially is utilized, and this expression should be interpreted in a wide sense, i.e., that the radius of an object is the distance from the centre or the symmetry axis to a point on a not necessarily cylindrical periphery of the object. This means that the object does not need to be round.
In Fig. 1, there is shown a drinking vessel 1 being difficult to tip over and comprising a base portion or foot 2 supporting an upwardly open vessel 3 having an upper edge portion 4. The upper edge portion 4 is preferably rounded.
As is seen in Figs. 2 and 3, the base portion 2 comprises at least one anti-slip member 5 on the side thereof facing a substratum (not shown) . In the embodiment illustrated, an anti-slip member 5 is shown preferably having the shape of a ring that projects somewhat from the underside of the base portion 2. Radially externally of the anti-slip member 5, a sliding member in the form of a slide lip 6 is arranged, which extends to the outer edge of the underside of the base portion. This entails that the outer contour of the slide lip is adapted to the outer contour of the base portion.
Furthermore, the outer edge R2 of the slide lip preferably has a somewhat upwardly rounded shape.
In a preferred embodiment, a central part 7 of the base portion 2 is shaped somewhat concavely. Furthermore, there is preferably an essentially horizontal portion 8 of the slide lip 6 situated between the anti-slip member 5 and the outer rounded edge R2. As seen along an axial line A-A of the drinking vessel in Fig. 1, at least a substantial part, at least 50 %, preferably at least 60 %, of the slide lip 6 is arranged radially outside an outer edge of the upper edge portion 4 of the vessel 3. By arranging the slide lip 6 in the way mentioned above, it is achieved that the drinking vessel does not tip over if it is subjected to an essentially horizontally directed force F against preferably any portion of the upwardly open vessel 3. The combination of the at least one anti-slip member and a
slide lip arranged externally of the same entails that, when the drinking vessel is subjected to an essentially horizontal force, the drinking vessel tips so much that the anti-slip member for the most part no longer contacts the substratum, and the drinking vessel begins to slide on the slide lip without turning over.
In the form of an example of an inventive drinking vessel being difficult to tip over, the anti-slip member 5 projects from the underside of the base portion 2 by a height X that amounts to approx. 0,2 mm, the slide lip has a total width Y, as seen in the radial direction, that amounts to approx. 6,2 mm, and as seen in relation to the axial line A-A, a width D of the slide lip, which is the part of the slide lip that is situated radially externally of said line, amounts to approx. 3,9 mm and a width C of the slide lip, which is the part of the slide lip that is situated radially internally of said line, to approx. 2,3 mm. Accordingly, in this example, the width D constitutes 63 % of the total radial width Y of the slide lip. When, in this example, the drinking vessel 1 is subjected to the force F, the drinking vessel begins to slide when an angle a between the vertical line of the drinking vessel and the horizontal plane, a substratum U, amounts to approx. 87,6°. If the diameter of the base portion 2 is Z, it is suitable that Y amounts to approx. 2-25 % of Z .
To prevent the drinking vessels from being displaced
laterally, when several drinking vessels are piled on top of each other, the anti-slip member may, as seen along an axial line B-B of the drinking vessel, be situated inside an inner edge of the upper edge portion 4 of the upwardly open vessel 3.
It is evident to a person skilled in the art that the outer contour of the base portion of the drinking vessel can be modified without departing from the scope of the invention a it is defined in the subsequent claims. For instance, the outer contour of the base portion may have a polygonal shape
