Description
"DEVICE FOR MOUNTING A TELESCOPIC SIGHT ON A FIREARM"
* * * *
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a device for the mounting of a telescopic sight on firearms, in particular rifles, shotguns and the like.
State of the technique
Some firearms like rifles, shotguns, etc., can be arranged in order to attach a sight telescope by a removable device and sometimes in an adjustable position. The telescope is therefore positioned and fixed to an anchoring means positioned according to the direction of the aim line above the barrel or barrels of the firearm. The anchoring means can be made up of a part of the rib of the firearm or by a device positioned on the rib.
For the fitting of a telescopic sight of a firearm various devices are available on the market.
One of these devices, well-known for example from the documents US6598333, and WO-2006 102338, consist basically in two annular elements that grip the telescopic sight in two different parts and which are individually provided with a supporting base that join and block using screws to the anchoring means above the barrel of the firearm.
Another device, well-known for example from the document US5787630, also comprises two annular elements made to grip the telescopic sight in two different positions, but which both extend upwards from a same base that connects like a clamp to the anchoring means on the barrel of the
firearm with the help of a complementary rod and by means of screws facing crossways to said rod and said anchoring means.
Another device, well-known for example by the document DE
20200501105, always comprises two annular elements made to grip two different parts of the telescopic sight, which extend upwards from a base in common, but where the blocking of this base on the anchoring means on the barrel of the firearm is carried out by means of a complicated lever system and cam blocking elements.
Also the documents WO 2009/057175; US 2008/168696 and DE 10 2004 008211 are indicative of the state of technique, but however concern assembly devices which lack efficient safety means that can be activated using the same hand as the one used to release it.
Object and Summary of the Invention
It one object of this invention is to provide a device for mounting a telescopic sight on a firearm in such a way that it is particularly simple and reliable, easy and rapid to active and deactivate and that above all does not require the use of fastening screws and, therefore, not even the availability of tools to be used to release and block.
Such an object and the implicit advantages deriving are reached in accordance with the invention by a device according to the preamble of claim
1 and where a cam control lever is provided with a safety pawl having a constraint tooth designed to engage with a stop hook integral with a second support element so as to stably constrain said lever in a blocked position.
Therefore, to block and release the device when associated with the anchoring means on the firearm all that is necessary is to simply use the
control lever. This lever, besides, can be provided with a safety means to prevent any involuntary or accidental release of the device once positioned and blocked in place on the in firearm. Advantageously, said safety means automatically clicks into an active stop position of the control lever when the latter is turned into the blocked position and can be deactivated using the same hand with which one acts on the command lever when the latter is turned into the release position.

In said drawings, 10 indicatively shows a firearm with at least one barrel 11 on the top of which is provided an anchoring means 12 to attach a telescopic sight 13 using the mounting device according to the invention, indicated overall by number 14.
As represented, then, the anchoring means 12 is in the shape of an extended portion with a swallow tail transversal section and can be shaped by a part of the rib above the barrels of the firearm. The mounting device 14 has one support base 15 from which rise two annular elements 16 designed to enclose and restrain the telescopic sight 13; said annular elements can be opened so as to detach the telescopic sight.
In particular, the support base is made up of two side by side complementary elements 17, 18 that can approach and move away in parallel one compared to the other like the jaws of a clamp.
A first 17 of said two elements is set to rest above the anchoring means 12 and has on one side a tooth face 17' provided to engage with a side of said anchoring means.
The other element 18 is formed by a rod having in turn a tooth face 18' designed so as to engage with the opposite side of said anchoring means.
The two elements 17, 18 of the support base 15 are coupled and guided reciprocally in a transversal direction by means of a pair of guide pegs 19 and with the interposition of springs 20, which tend to normally maintain one distant
from the other in a released position -Fig. 4- and which are compressible to allow for an approach of the two elements in a blocked position -Fig. 8.
When they are at a distance one from the other as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the two elements 17, 18 of the support base 15 are not able to engage with the anchoring means 12 thus allowing the assembly and disassembly of the device 10 and consequently the telescopic sight 13 on the firearm. When on the other hand said two elements 17, 18 are near one to the other as shown in Fig. 7and 8, they engage with the opposite sides of the swallow tail anchoring means 12 on the firearm tightly blocking the support base 15 and, by means of this the telescopic sight.
For their movements from the release position to the blocked position and vice versa, the two complementary elements 17, 18 of the support base are connected between them, always in a transversal direction, by means of a closing and opening rod 21 positioned in a centre part between the aforesaid guide pegs 19. This rod 21 has an extremity 21' associated with one of said two elements, preferably the first element 17, the most typical being the one on the left in the direction of the front of the firearm, and an opposite end that crosses the second element 18 and which is connected, by means of a pivot 22, to a control lever 23.
In particular, the extremity 21 ' of said rod 21 associated with the first element 17 of the support base 15 is screwed to a bush 24 recessed and fixed in the element itself. In that way it will be possible to vary the actual length of the rod 21 , by tightening or loosening compared to the bush 24 to correspondently adjust the moving away/approaching size of the second
element to the first element depending on the dimension in a transversal direction, of the anchoring means'! 2.
For its part the control lever 23 has a cam portion 25, that is to say eccentric, that rests and engages against the external surface of the second element 18 of the support base 15.
Furthermore said lever 23 turns through about 90°, between a released and a blocked position, around the pivot 22 by which it is connected to the rod 21.
In the released position -Figs, 2-4- the cam portion 25 of said lever is substantially inactive and the second element 18 is thrust by the interposed springs 20 at a distance from the first element 17 of the support base. In the blocked position -Figs. 6-8- the cam portion 25 of said lever 23 engages and thrusts, parallel to itself, along the tension rod 21 and the guide pegs 19, the second element 18 towards the first element 17 of the support base.
In this way, when the assembly device 14 is resting with its support base 15 on the swallow tail anchoring means 12 placed on the line of aim above the barrels of a firearm, it is sufficient to operate on the control lever 23 to block and release the device with respect to said anchoring means, and with it the telescopic sight, by means of the cam portion 25 of said lever.
In fact, when the control lever 23 is turned in one direction in order to arrange it practically in line with the closing rod 21 -Figs. 2 to 4 - the two elements 17, 18 of the support base 15 are at a distance one from the other and the device is in the released condition and in this way can be assembled on or separated from the anchoring means 12. When on the other hand the control lever 23 is turned towards the second element 18, at about a right
angle in regard to the closin tension rod 21 -Figs. 6-8- the two elements 17, 18 of the support base 15 are approached one to the other and therefore tight from opposite sides of the anchoring means 12, locking the device with the telescope.
It should be understood that when the assembly device 10 is in the blocked condition and in order to avoid an involuntary or accidental detachment from the firearm it is applied to, the control lever 23 is constrained in safety to the second element 18 of the support base 15 to which it is at that time alongside.
As represented in the drawings, such a constraint is carried out by providing the second element 18 of the support base with a lateral stop hook 26 and the control lever 23 with a safety pawl 27 provided, in turn, with a constraining tooth 28 designed to engage with said stop hook 26 -Fig. 4, 8. The safety pawl 27 is guided and moveable on the lever 23 and is stressed by a spring 29 operating in the direction so as to normally maintain the tooth 28 in the interaction position with the correlated stop hook 26 and make a voluntary manual movement backwards obligatory for the pawl so as to be able to turn the lever towards the released position of the device.
Finally, the support base 15 of the device, may be provided with a reference stake 30 -Fig. 5- facing downwards, stressed by a spring 31 and assigned to engage in a checking cavity above the anchoring means so as to define the correct arrangement of the device and with it the telescope when attached to the firearm.
To the device described above can moreover be brought about some changes in detail in relation to some of its components and to their
combination, provided that the release and block control is carried out by a single cam lever.
