- the malformation of the bone occurs for several reasons, for example by causing a misalignment of the leg, forming an angle between the femur and the tibia, presenting a curved appearance when viewed from the front, (Fig. 1)
- Osteotomies performed around the knee are very popular, and have undergone a change in their fixation.
- osteotomy was performed using plaster as a fixation device.
- other synthetic materials have emerged, such as wires, screws and plates, providing more stability and process safety.
- the Puddu Plaque for fixation of osteotomy with opening wedge became known worldwide. From there, new plates appeared on the market. The plates function essentially as an osteotomy fixation instrument, while other stages of surgery are performed by other instruments. By proceeding in this manner, it is common to observe complications inherent to the surgical procedure and to the fixation method used with the devices of the prior art:
- the notch of the osteotomy is erroneously made.
- DISADVANTAGES OF THE DEVICES OF PRIOR ART AND OBSERVED PROBLEMS Devices usually used to correct bone malformations include two axially movable plates that are generally guided to maintain alignment (see Fig. 2).
- the plates currently used for osteotomy do not have a millimetric correction system, which requires an assortment of plates numbered differently depending on the correction to be made. As a result, the exact measurement desired is not found because the measurements provided by the assortment range from 2.5 to 2.5 mm.
- the plates come into play only in the final phase of the surgery, for the sole purpose of fixation; they do not intervene in the adjustment of the tibial slope.
- the surgical procedure is the same, in the case of correction of the tibia for angular malformation, namely: cutting a notch at an angle or notch in the shin, very close to the knee.
- a tuning fork (millimeter corner, see Fig. 8) is then inserted to facilitate the opening of the bone until the desired angle is obtained, using a hammer to drive the wedge into the bone.
- the plate with intermediate part previously dimensioned is placed. Finally, the plate is fixed, then the tuning fork (millimeter corner) is removed carefully, through a very small working space.
- the purpose of the present patent application is to develop a mechanical device intended to correct a malformation of the bones of the body, continuously adjustable, to facilitate the work of the surgeon by reducing the time of surgery, thereby reducing risks of infection, and mainly to guarantee the desired accuracy for surgery, while not having the disadvantages mentioned above.
- the invention makes it possible to make a small angle cut, much less than the angle required by the devices of the prior art.
- the invention consists of two plates, the lower plate and the upper plate, and the opening or closing is regulated by means of a screw, which according to the direction in which it is rotated, allows to remove or to bring the two plates together.
- This new Plates concept allows the introduction of the Upper and Lower Tibia Supports in the restricted area of the notch, at the same time tightening the fixing screws of the Upper and Lower Plates, then to proceed to the precise adjustment of the Plaque spacing,
- this continuously adjustable system without a solution of continuity, is in no way limited to the bones of the legs, but can be used on all the bones of the body, either for the purpose of correction or as a permanent prosthesis.

- Plaques can be introduced into the reduced-size cut made in the femur as shown in FIG. 6.
- Top and Bottom Plates are guided together by a Dovetail guide system (7), they remain aligned and the continuous adjustment screw allows them to move away gradually.
- the measurement of the opening can be controlled millimetrically with high precision until the desired position is obtained.
- the Blocking Screw (3) has the function of locking the Top Plate on the Bottom Plate, thus guaranteeing the maintenance of the desired position.
