Abstract

The invention is a multiple hollow needle system that is designed to withdraw arterial blood sample from narrow arteries. This new device is consisted of multiple blood drawing tiny hollow needles (1) that are parallel to each other and on the same plane and are attached to a single hub (2). There are interspaces (3) between the hollow needles (1) and it is ideally, equal to the thickness of the needles (1). The hub (2) holds multiple hollow needles and is compatible and fits any standart injector tip. This multiple hollow needle system ideally has triple hollow needles (1).

Description

DESCRIPTION
Multiple Needle System To Draw Arterial Blood Gas Sample From Tiny Arteries
The invention explained here is a multiple hollow needle system designed to withdraw arterial blood sample.
Taking arterial blood sample is a very frequent procedure in the emergency room service, pulmonary diseases and cardiology services and in many other medical services . Mostly the wrist radial artery is prefered, as the risk of bleeding is rare and applying pressure on it, is easier. But, to insert a hollow needle to that or any other tiny artery is not always very easy and accurate as the radial artery is tiny and therefore it can take more than one shot from time to time, and such a procedure ends up with not only a waste of time but also tiredness of the physician (technician, nurse) and no need to mention the pain and distress it causes to the patient .
In this invention, to overcome the abovementioned difficulties, the needle system is designed as multiple needles. With the help of multiple needles aiming to enter the target artery, the chance to enter the artery is much higher than a conventional single needle system. This newly invented multiple hollow needle system enables health workers to withdraw blood, mostly in a single shot, even in patients with tiny arteries. When the multiple needle system is inserted to the artery region, the blood comes back to the injector through one needle or sometimes more than one needle that enter the specific artery. When more than one needle enters the artery, even the time to withdraw blood can be shorter. With the help of this system the health personnel who performs the procedure will do it faster and easier without getting exhausted and also the patient will experience less pain and distress.
The explanation of the figures that show the system more clearly are as follows: Figure-1 Upper view of the multiple hollow needle system manufactured with a triple needle system.
Figure-2 Side view of the multiple hollow needle system with needles on the same plane.
The parts resembled with corresponding numbers in the figures are as follows:
1- Hollow needle
2- Hub
3- The distance between hollow needles (Interspace between needles)
The multiple hollow needle system consists more than one needle. Multiple hollow needles (1) are connected to a single hub (2). This hub (2) is compatible and fits any standart injector tip. These multiple hollow needles (1) are on the same plane and are parallel to each other and are connected to the same hub (2). These needles have interspaces (3) between them.
The figures given here to explain the newly invented multiple hollow needle system show a triple needle system (Figures 1 and 2). The interspace (3) between each hollow needle is equal to the thickness of a single needle but this distance can be in different lengths according to the anatomic area where the device is intended to be used and can be manufactured in this way. This new multiple hollow needle system can be consisted of 2, 3, 4, 5 or more paralel hollow needles, however, triple needle will be more convinient and easy to use. The thickness of the hollow needle can vary but very thin ones are preferable. The hub (2) where the three needles are attached, is compatible and fits any standart injector tip. Also a standart injector that comes with the needle system can be preexposed to a heparin like medication to prevent coagulation of the blood in the manufacturing process or before marketing. By doing this, the device can be more convinient for arterial blood gas drawing. In sideview scene (Figure-2) as the needles (1) are parallel to each other and on the same plane, only the needle on front is seen.
The device is intended to be used by the authorized healthcare personnel as explained below.
After palpating the artery with the finger tip the triple needle is inserted to the skin and then the piston of the needle is pulled back slowly (to cause negative pressure in the injector) and the needle is moved forward slowly and when it enters the artery blood will start to come to the injector. At this point the triple hollow needle system is no longer moved (neither inserted nor withdrawn) and after getting enough amount of blood the needle and the injector are pulled back together and a standart means of pressure is applied to the region.
