MOULD INJECTION AND ITS MOULD"
Technical Domain of the invention
The present invention refers to a method for manufacturing a multi-material product, preferably a thermoplastic product by injection into a mould, the mould used in this manufacturing method, and the products obtained.
Background of the Invention
One object of the present invention is to provide a solution for manufacturing plastic parts presenting different colors and/or materials.
The current state of the art is much more complex and uses rotational moulds, overmoulding tools with parts transfer so as to inject a different color, moulds with sealing mechanisms, using mechanical or hydraulically operated slides .
This methodology provides simpler injection moulds, with lower production times, lower maintenance costs and less error or malfunction susceptibility.
General description of the invention
One object of the present invention is to provide a solution for manufacturing plastic parts presenting different colors and/or materials.
The injection mould is a tool built for the purpose of molding plastic parts.
It usually consists of special metal alloys, depending on the requirements, and consists of the following components:
one tongue or fixed half of the mould containing the injection system (at least one nozzle) and may have ejectors or lifters;
one moveable half containing the cavities.
The moulds have different sizes, shapes, geometries and mechanisms design, according to the part or parts meant to be produced. The mould is usually assembled in an injection machine, which injects the plastic into the mould; the plastic parts obtained from the injection are either directly sent to the end consumer, for instance, as plastic cups, containers or storage boxes, or are used in another type of industry that mixes multiple parts in order to obtain a final product. An example is the automobile industry, aeronautics and naval applications which increasingly use plastic materials for vehicle construction.
The present invention describes a method for manufacturing a multi-material product by injection into a mould, the injected materials, the mould itself being able to perform the present methodology and the obtained plastic parts. The
objects of the present invention allow obtaining plastic parts in multiple materials, through two sequential injections steps in a single mould, mainly benefiting from the capacity of the injection machine so as to proceed with an intermediate stop, block and inject, using the plastic itself to seal the joining areas between zones with different colors.
In the context of the present document the term multi- material includes the same material with different colors and / or matters of different nature which are compatible in terms of adhesion.

injecting one or more second materials (9) into one or more second cavities, the cavities allowing the second materials (9) to bind to the first materials (3,5) .
A further preferred embodiment comprises a method for manufacturing a multi-material product by injection into a mould wherein the mould opening can be equal to the thickness of the second material (9) in the final part, with a tolerance range from half up to two times of said thickness. More preferably the opening of the mould may vary from 0.5 up to 15 mm; more preferably the opening may
vary from 1 to 7 mm; still more preferably the opening may vary from 1.5 to 4 mm; and even more preferably the opening of the mould may be of 2 mm the tolerances being as those usual in this technical field.
In another preferred embodiment, the method for manufacturing a multi-material product by injection into a mould as hereinabove described may inject materials of different colors.
Still in a preferred embodiment the method for manufacturing a multi-material product by injection into a mould, the materials to be injected can be thermoplastic materials, such as polyamide, polycarbonate, Polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyacrylonitrile, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, among others .
Another preferred goal is a mould for manufacturing a multi-material product, preferably of different colors, by injection techniques comprising: a. one or more first cavities to inject one or more first materials into the closed mould;
b. characteristics which, after solidification of the first materials, allow opening and ejecting partially, up to a predetermined value;
c. one or more second cavities to inject one or more second materials, the cavities allowing the second materials to bind to the first materials, being sealed by the elements obtained by the injection of the first materials and by the sealing of the tongue half of the mould, preferably laterally, wherein in a more
preferred embodiment the seal may additionally be performed by lifters and / or ejectors, existing in the tongue half of the mould.
The mould used to manufacture a multi-material product by injection as previously described may consist of a metal alloy, preferably aluminum or steel. Still in a more preferred embodiment it may include surface treatments.
