Abstract

The invention relates to a method for determining the fraction of the mass of burnt gases (MFB) during a motor vehicle internal combustion engine cycle. It is essentially characterized in that it comprises steps involving: - taking a first (Y(k)) and a second (Y(k+1)) pressure measurement in a cylinder at a first instant (k) and a second instant (k+1) respectively using a passive pressure sensor having an offset (Yoff), - determining the value V(k) and V(k+1) of the volume of said cylinder at said first (k) and second (k+1) respective instants, - calculating the fraction of the mass of burnt gases (MFB) at a third instant j using equation (I) where γ is the polytropic expansion coefficient for the gases and m is the instant at the end of the complete engine cycle.
