Abstract
Abstract The invention relates to a method for separating components from fuel raw material, where tall oil feedstock is introduced to a continuous process comprising a catalytic hydrodeoxygenation step to convert unsaturated fatty acids to fuel components. A light fraction comprising the unsaturated fatty acids is separated from a heavier fraction of the feedstock, and the light fraction is introduced separately to the hydrodeoxygenation step and taken out as fuel component product stream, and the heavier fraction comprising sterols is left untreated in the hydrodeoxygenation step and is taken out as residual stream. The separation step and the hydrodeoxygenation step take place in the same reactor. The invention also relates to an apparatus for separating components from fuel raw material.
