Abstract

Methods of forming functionalized carbon nanostructures, including reversibly hydrogenated carbon nanostructures and other derivatives, as well as compositions and materials formed therefrom. The carbon nanostructures include fullerenes, single-wall carbon nanotubes, multi-wall carbon nanotubes, graphite, and graphene. Methods of functionalizing the carbon nanostructures include dispersing carbon nanostructure materials and preparing dispersed carbon nanostructure compositions, forming carbon nanostructure derivatives with reactive functional groups, and forming polymers, copolymers, and thermoformable materials including carbon nanostructures.
