Abstract

An apparatus (100) for transporting a paper or film object (110) or a stack of such objects (110). The apparatus (100) includes a belt (150) having a top surface (180) and configured to move along a generally linear path (P1) and along a curved path (P2). A finger (160, 162) is supported by the belt and extends above the surface (180) and is configured to move the object (110) in a linear machine direction (115), with the finger (160, 162) being oriented at an angle (α) relative to the machine direction (115). The finger (160, 162) may be carried on a linkage (210, 212) operable to generally maintain the angle (α) relative to the linear machine direction (115) through the linear path (P1) and through at least a portion of the curved path (P2). The angle (α) may, for example, be a right angle. The finger (160, 162) may be coupled to the belt (150) at two locations (182, 184) that are spaced from one another along the length of the belt (150).
