Abstract

The present invention relates to an image display apparatus capable of controlling a viewing angle. The image display apparatus comprises a 1st backlight unit, a 2nd backlight unit, a light path limiting plate, and an image display panel. The 1st backlight unit is formed to selectively emit light, and the 2nd backlight unit is arranged on the 1st backlight unit and formed to selectively emit light. The light path limiting plate is arranged between the 1st backlight unit and the 2nd backlight unit so that the light emitted from the 1st backlight unit passes therethrough, and comprises a plurality of slots for limiting the path of the incoming light to reduce diffusion of the light, which is emitted and inputted from the 1st backlight unit. The image display panel is arranged on the 2nd backlight unit to display images so that the light emitted from the 1st backlight unit and the 2nd backlight unit passes therethrough. Since the two backlight units are vertically arrayed and the light path limiting plate formed with a plurality of slots to limit the light diffusion path is included, a light diffusion spreading angle region which passes through the image display panel, can be adjusted and as a result a viewing angle is controlled. Therefore, an image display apparatus with a controllable viewing angle is implemented through a simple structure.
