Abstract

The invention relates to a method for analysing the humming tendency of a combustion engine in an operating state. Said method comprises the following steps: the combustion chamber is operated in the operating state; a thermoacoustic variable of the combustion chamber gas volume and/or a vibration variable of the combustion chamber structure in the operating state is recorded, and a characteristic variable is determined from the thermoacoustic variable and/or the vibration variable; the spectrum (1, 1', 1' ') of the characteristic variable in the operating state is determined as the amplitude course of the characteristic variable over time; a first resonance and a second resonance of the characteristic variable are identified by means of the spectrum (1, 1', 1' '); the amplitude value (2, 2', 2' ') of the first resonance and the amplitude value (3, 3', 3' ') of the second resonance are determined; a stability parameter (9, 9') is calculated as a function of the amplitude value of the first resonance and the amplitude value of the second resonance; the lower distance value and/or the upper distance value, on which lies the stability parameter above a lower previously determined threshold value (16) and/or below an upper previously determined threshold value, are determined, the threshold values being selected in such a way that if the combustion chamber is operated in an operating state with a humming tendency just higher than permissible, the stability parameter lies on one of the threshold values in said operating state; and the humming tendency is quantified by means of the lower distance value and/or the higher distance value.
