Abstract

The present invention relates to turbines and power generators. A bladeless turbine is described in the form of a conduit providing a fluid flow channel. The conduit has an inner surface adapted to create a vortex in fluid flowing through the channel. The vortex has sufficient force to cause rotation of the conduit. Members can be arranged on the inner surface to impel the fluid to form a vortex. When at least a portion of the conduit is located in a housing having a coil arranged around the conduit and the conduit includes a magnet, rotation of the conduit by the vortex causes the magnet to rotate in the coil and generate an electric current. A power generator is realised which can be used as a tidal power generator.
