Description
Device in connection with a hanger
The present invention relates to a device in connection with a hanger that is articulately foldable transverse to the length extension thereof and spring force- actuated to be turned out into an operative unfolded hanging position intended for clothes reception, as well as to be turned together, against the action of said spring force, into an operative folded insertion position intended for clothes insertion, and that a flexible screw spring, which is arranged received internally in a hole-shaped space in the frame of the hanger that consists of plastic material, is arranged to act, in the unfolded position of the hanger, to contract the ends of the respective halves of the hanger, as well as, upon folding of the hanger, to be folded around the folding joint of the hanger extending vertically in the hanging position.
Known foldable hangers in the form of a clothes hanger that are arranged to be able to carry sweaters, shirts, tops, t-shirts, jackets, cardigans, coats, etc., and particularly be inserted through the neck opening of the garment without problems, comprise, for instance, as are shown in US 5,480,076 A, US 4,813,581A, US 4,673,115 A, WO 2007/054749 Al, US 6,540,121 Bl, DE 4215624 Al and NL 1033391, foldability against or along the length extension of the hanger. In cases they have spring members, which allow unfolding of the clothes hanger into an operative entirely extended support position from a folded storage or introduction position, spring members according to, for instance, US
5,480,076 A may be comprised of a helically wound so-called clothes peg spring having projecting spring ends. Accordingly, the spring is positioned freely accessible from the outside,
which makes that clothes may get caught to the same. Other clothes hangers having resilient joints, which make that the arms of the clothes hanger can be folded downward around a pivot joint, do not allow to carry so heavy garments, and in addition, the construction becomes complicated with great consumption of material, usually plastic material. In addition, it is difficult to make a smooth top surface of the clothes hanger if this is desired in order for the clothes hanger not to get caught in the garment. US 4,997,115A relates to a clothes hanger wherein a pivot joint is formed of a screw spring (24) inserted with the respective free ends (32) thereof in holes (22) in the arm parts (28, 30) of the clothes hanger, at a mutual distance from each other and having a surrounding hose-shaped protection layer along the hanger part of the entire clothes hanger. Said hose is threaded onto the clothes hanger after the mounting of the helical springs thereof. This hose threading and spring attachment becomes extraordinarily complicated to carry out in an efficient way if it is desired to produce great quantities of clothes hangers economically.
The structural continuity of the different clothes hanger parts is provided only by the uniting ability of the helical springs and plastic hose. This must be a substantial limitation when it comes to carrying heavier garments and also being resistible to customers' sometimes careless handling of garments that hang on clothes hangers in shops, particularly in case of sale and similar bargain opportunities .
Furthermore, threading of clothes onto such a clothes hanger is made more difficult, since it is not possible to collapse it in order not to occupy so much space laterally and make it more difficult to bring in the clothes hanger through garments' neck openings when the clothes hanger is kept
in the folded position as where the joint is allowed to be placed in the middle of the clothes hanger.
The clothes hanger according to the invention can mainly be folded in the middle, while the clothes hanger according to US 4,997,115 A can be folded approx. 60-65 % from one end thereof. This is an essential advantage according to the invention and a disadvantage in the known clothes hanger according to said US 4,997,115 A. Manufacture of a clothes hanger according to the invention is facilitated also thanks to the simple and efficient folding joint thereof.
Accordingly, the main object of the present invention is to provide a hanger that is strong and can carry heavy garments but that yet is smooth and easy, inexpensive and simple to manufacture and utilize, and where the spring for the folding is kept protected in the interior of the clothes hanger when the clothes hanger is in the support position or introduction position thereof and cannot come in contact with the garment in question. In addition, it is desired to provide a spring that both aims to fold together the two parts of the clothes hanger and constantly acts to bring together the two parts of the clothes hanger end-to-end.
Said object is achieved by means of a device according to the present invention that essentially is characterized in that the hanger has a U-shaped cross-sectional profile, that the spring is arranged to be folded around a smooth folding joint that is formed of a transverse scoring in the frame material of the hanger, and that the joint extends along the entire height of the hanger, in the joint area.
The invention saves time for those who utilize the clothes hangers, both for private persons and in shops. In addition to the time-saving, the risk of getting stretched collars of garments decreases, since it is now not needed to try to press ordinary clothes hangers or poorly working
foldable clothes hangers through a narrow neck opening of garments and thereby deform and damage the garment in question.
The invention is described below in the form of a preferred embodiment example, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which
Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a clothes hanger according to the invention in a partly folded position,
Fig. 2 shows the clothes hanger in an entirely unfolded position, Fig. 3 shows the clothes hanger in an entirely folded position as seen from the front side of the clothes hanger,
Fig. 4 shows a section view in the area of the spring of the clothes hanger and the mounting thereof along the line IV-IV in Fig. 2, and
Fig. 5 shows a section view in the area of the folding joint of the clothes hanger.
A device 1 in connection with a hanger 2, which is articulately foldable transverse 3 to the length extension 4 thereof and spring force-actuated to be turned out into an operative unfolded hanging position H intended for clothes reception, as well as to be turned together, against the action of said spring force, into an operative folded insertion position I intended for clothes insertion, comprises a flexible screw spring 5. According to the present invention, said screw spring 5 is arranged to be received in a hole-shaped space 6 in the frame 7 of the hanger and arranged to act, in the unfolded, i.e., extended position H of the hanger 2, to contract each other's opposite ends 8, 9 of the respective halves 10, 11 of the hanger. Said flexible screw spring 5 is arranged to be folded, upon folding of the hanger 2, around the folding joint 12 of the hanger extending vertically in the hanging position H.
In order to efficiently be able to receive said spring 5 and to decrease the material consumption but not the strength of the clothes hanger 2, the clothes hanger has a U- shaped cross-sectional profile. The screw spring 5, which is formed of a tension spring, is mounted to the respective half 10, 11 of the hanger 2 by mountings 13, 14 extending transverse 3 to the two halves 10, 11 of the hanger 2. Said mountings 13, 14 are formed of spindles extending between the two side walls 15, 16 of the hanger 2, which are parallel to and opposite each other, and received in holes 17, 18 therein.
Suitably, end lugs 19, 20 of the screw spring 5 are arranged to receive a mounting spindle 13, 14 each, and said screw spring is so pliable that it is allowed to bend when the two clothes hanger halves 10, 11 are acted upon to be folded around the folding joint 12 thereof. Said folding joint 12 is smooth in order not to damage the spring 5 or not to be affected harmfully by the spring 5 when the clothes hanger halves are folded around said joint 12 in the direction of the arrows 21, 22, approx. 90° toward each other, or 180° if only one of the halves 10 or 11 is turned around said joint 12. A said smooth joint 12 is formed of the transverse scoring in the frame material of the hanger that consists of plastic material. Said joint 12 extends along the entire height X of the hanger in the joint area.
A portion 23 of one half 10 of the hanger 2 carries a hanging hook 24 or some other similar hang-up means on the top portion 25 of the hanger, said hanger half 10 having a greater length extension A than the length B of the corresponding other hanger half 11.
The function and nature of the invention should have been clear with the aid of what has been mentioned above and by means of the drawings.
The invention relates to a foldable clothes hanger 2 that can be made by being injection-moulded into a single piece including an integrated pivot joint 12 directly in the injection-moulded plastic detail between the clothes hanger halves 10, 11. In order to conceal the opening slit 26 on the opposite side of the folding joint 12, for instance a plastic plate for printing of, e.g., logotype or other information may be placed on one half 10, 11 of the clothes hanger, so that it protrudes over the other half 11, 10 of the clothes hanger in the closed position H.
Naturally, the invention is not limited to the embodiments described above and shown in the accompanying drawings. Modifications are feasible, particularly as for the nature of the different parts, or by using an equivalent technology, without departing from the protection area of the invention, such as it is defined in the claims.
