Abstract

The invention provides for a locking device (10) for an inlet of a container (24), wherein the inlet is a hatch (14) and includes an aperture defined by the container (24) and a cover (18), said locking device (10) including, a first member (20) being releasably attachable to the cover (18) of the hatch (14); a second member (22) being releasably attachable to the first member (20) and shaped and dimensioned to releasably engage at least a part of the container (24) and/or the hatch (14) thereby facilitating the attachment of the locking device (10) to the container(24); an attachment means (26) for releasably attaching the first member (20) to the second member(22); securing means (28) for securing the first member (20) relative the second member(22), and wherein the first member (20) and the second member(22), when engaging the hatch (14) and container(24), assist in deterring the displacement of the cover (18) relative the aperture thereby assisting in minimizing the unauthorised entry of the container (24). The invention also provides for a locking device (60) for the outlet (62) of the container (24), wherein the outlet (62) includes an aperture defined by the container (24), a cover (64) and an opening mechanism (66) for opening and closing the cover (64), said locking device (60) including, an abutment means (68) abutting at least a part of the container (24) and/or the opening mechanism (66) when in a locked position; a brace (70) that is shaped and dimensioned to engage at least a part of the opening mechanism (66) of the outlet (62) of the container (24); a securing means (72), securing the brace (70) relative the container (24); and wherein the brace (70) and the abutment means (68), when engaging the opening mechanism (66) of the container (24), assist in deterring the unauthorised opening of the outlet (62) of the container (24).

Description

A Locking Device
Field of invention
The invention is in the field of locking devices, specifically a locking device used in the container industry.
Background to the invention
The inventor believes that there is a need for a locking device in the container industry to prevent the loss of cargo being transported by containers.
The removal of cargo may occur whilst in transit or at storage at a container depot. Access to the container is gained through the inlet and outlets of the container. The inventor believes that there is a need to inhibit this access and therefore inhibit the theft and loss of cargo.
Unauthorised persons often gain access to the container by disengaging the opening mechanism of either the inlet or the outlet of the container. The inventor believes there is a need for a locking device that will assist in securing the opening mechanisms of the inlet and/or the outlet of a container.
Summary of the invention
For purposes of interpreting this specification, the following definitions apply:
Hatch- an opening, through which cargo can be loaded or unloaded.
According to an aspect of the invention there is provided a locking device for an inlet of a container, wherein the inlet is a hatch and includes an aperture defined by the container and a cover, said locking device including: a first member being releasably attachable to the cover of the hatch; a second member being releasably attachable to the first member and shaped and dimensioned to releasably engage at least a part of the container and/or the hatch thereby facilitating the attachment of the locking device to the container; an attachment means for releasably attaching the first member to the second member; securing means for securing the first member relative the second member, and wherein the first member and the second member, when engaging the hatch and container, assist in deterring the displacement of the cover relative the aperture thereby assisting in minimizing the unauthorised entry of the container.
The first member may include a hook.
The hook of the first member may be releasably attachable to at least a part of the cover of the hatch.
The hook of the first member may be releasably attachable to the handle of the cover of the hatch.
The first member may define an aperture which may be shaped and dimensioned to receive the attachment means.
The first member may receive the attachment means for releasably attaching the first member to the second member and thereby assisting in deterring the removal of the locking device from the hatch of the container.
The first member may include a shield.
The shield may abut at least a part of the second member.
The second member may include a base. The base of the second member may be shaped and dimensioned to be received by the container and/or a part of the hatch.
The base of the second member may be shaped and dimensioned to abut the container, the abutment providing support to the second member thereby assisting in inhibiting the movement of the second member.
The base of the second member may abut the shield of the first member, wherein the shield may prevent any movement of the second member whilst the locking device is attached to the container.
The base of the second member may abut an overhang surrounding the aperture of the hatch defined by the container.
The attachment means may be in the form of a shank.
The shank may be attached to the second member.
The shank may define a long axis, along which the second member may rotate.
The rotation of the second member around the long axis of the shank may be deterred by the abutment of the shield of the first member and the base of the second member, thereby deterring the unauthorised removal of the locking device from the container.
The shield may limit access to the shank.
The shank may be integral the second member.
The shank may be generally elongate.
The shank may be generally cylindrical elongate and may include a tapered end. The shank may include a thread and may include a first threaded section and a second counter-threaded section. The first threaded section may include a larger diameter relative the second counter- threaded section.
The securing means may be in the form of a nut.
The securing means may include a plurality of nuts.
The securing means may typically include two nuts.
The nuts may be shaped and dimensioned to receive the shank.
A first nut may have a larger bore diameter relative a second nut bore diameter.

According to another aspect of the invention, there is provided a locking device for the outlet of a container, wherein the outlet includes an aperture defined by the container, a cover and an opening mechanism for opening and closing the cover, said locking device including: an abutment means abutting at least a part of the container and/or the opening mechanism when in a locked position; a brace that is shaped and dimensioned to engage at least a part of the opening mechanism of the outlet of the container; a securing means, securing the brace relative the container; and wherein the brace and the abutment means, when engaging the opening mechanism of the container, assist in deterring the unauthorised opening of the outlet of the container.
The opening mechanism of the container may include a hydraulic lever system.
The opening mechanism may define apertures through which at least a part of the locking device may be received.
The abutment means may abut at least a part of the opening mechanism of the container. The abutment means may abut at least a part of the hydraulic lever system, and may inhibit the movement of the hydraulic levers.
The abutment means may abut at least a part of the container.
The abutment means may define an aperture.
The brace may define an extension, the extension may be receivable by the aperture defined by the abutment means.
The brace may be releasably attachable to the abutment means.
The brace may be received by the opening mechanism of the container, the brace may thereby assist in inhibiting the movement of the levers of the hydraulic system of the opening mechanism.
The brace may be in the form of a shank.
The shank may be generally elongate.
The shank may be generally cylindrical elongate and may include at least one tapered end.

The second nut may be shaped and dimensioned to receive the shank and to abut at least a part of the opening mechanism of the container whilst the locking device is in locked position. The second nut may define surfaces, and at least one of the surfaces may be configured to complementarily fit a part of the opening mechanism.
The bore of the second nut may define a guide.
The guide may be shaped and dimensioned to be received by the groove defined by the shank, and thereby may assist in inhibiting the rotation of the second nut.
Typically, the second nut is advanced along the shank to an engaged position adjacent the opening mechanism.
The third nut may have a larger bore diameter relative the fourth nut bore diameter.
The third nut may include a thread and the fourth nut may include a counter-thread.
The third nut may be shaped and dimensioned to engage with the first threaded section of the shank and the fourth nut may be shaped and dimensioned to engage with the second threaded section of the shank.
Typically, the third nut is advanced along the threaded portion of the shank to an engaged position adjacent the second nut, and thereby may assist in securing the locking device to the opening mechanism of the container.
Advancement of the fourth nut along the shank towards the engaged position of the third nut may discourage removal of the third nut away from the engaged position adjacent the second nut, and may secure the opening mechanism relative the locking device and may assist in inhibiting the unauthorised removal of goods from the container
The third nut may define further apertures for receiving a retaining pin. At least one of the further apertures may be threaded.
The fourth nut may define further apertures for receiving a retaining pin.
At least one of the further apertures may be threaded.
The retaining pin may be any one or more from the group of a screw, bolt, dowel pins, castellated nut and cotter pin arrangement and the like.
The fourth nut may define an aperture for receiving further retaining means.
The further retaining means may be in the form of a security seal.
According to yet another aspect of the invention, there is provided a kit for a locking device for a container, wherein the kit includes a locking device for an inlet of a container, wherein the inlet is a hatch and includes an aperture defined by the container and a cover, said locking device including: a first member being releasably attachable to the cover of the hatch; a second member being releasably attachable to the first member and shaped and dimensioned to releasably engage at least a part of the container and/or the hatch thereby facilitating the attachment of the locking device to the container; an attachment means for releasably attaching the first member to the second member; securing means for securing the first member relative the second member, and wherein the first member and the second member, when engaging the hatch and container, assist in deterring the displacement of the cover relative the aperture thereby assisting in minimizing the unauthorised entry of the container; a locking device for the outlet of the container, wherein the outlet includes an aperture defined by the container, a cover and an opening mechanism for opening and closing the cover, said locking device including: an abutment means abutting at least a part of the container and/or the opening mechanism when in a locked position; a brace that is shaped and dimensioned to engage at least a part of the opening mechanism of the outlet of the container; a securing means, securing the brace relative the container; and wherein the brace and the abutment means, when engaging the opening mechanism of the container, assist in deterring the unauthorised opening of the outlet of the container; and a key for tightening and loosening the locking device when in use.

The invention will now be described by way of non-limiting example with reference to the drawings, in which
Figure 1 is a side view of the locking device used on the inlet of the container;
Figure 2 is a view of the locking device in locked position on the inlet of the container;
Figure 3 is a side view of the locking device used on the outlet of the container;
Figure 4 is a view of the locking device in locked position on the outlet of the container;
Figure 5 is a drawing of a different embodiment of the abutment means; and
Figure 6 is a drawing of a key of the kit of the invention.
In the drawings the reference numeral 10 generally refers to a locking device for the inlet of a container 12 in accordance with the invention as described in Figures 1 and 2.
A locking device 10 for an inlet of a container 12, wherein the inlet is a hatch 14 and includes an aperture 16 defined by the container 24 and a cover 18. As shown in Figure 1 and 2 the locking device 10 includes a first member 20 being releasably attachable to the cover 18 of the hatch 14, and a second member 22 being releasably attachable to the first member 20 and is shaped and dimensioned to releasably engage at least a part of the container 24 and/or hatch 14 thereby facilitating the attachment of the locking device 10 to the container 24. The locking device 10 also includes an attachment means 26 for releasably attaching the first member 20 to the second member 22, and a securing means 28 for securing the first member 20 relative the second member 22, and wherein the first member 20 and the second member 22, when engaging the hatch 14 and the container 24, assists in deterring the displacement of the cover 18 relative the aperture 16 thereby assisting in minimizing the unauthorised entry of the container 24.
The first member 20 includes a hook 30, the hook 30 being releasably attachable to at least a part of the cover 18 of the hatch 14. The hook 30 is releasably attachable to the handle 32 of the cover 18 of the hatch 14 as illustrated in Figure 2.
The first member 20 defines an aperture 34 which is shaped and dimensioned to receive the attachment means 26, and receives the attachment means 26 for releasably attaching the first member 20 to the second member 22 and thereby assisting in deterring the removal of the locking device 10 from the hatch 14 of the container 24.
The first member 20 includes a shield 36, the shield 36 abutting at least a part of the second member 22.
The second member 22 includes a base 38, the base 38 being shaped and dimensioned to abut the container 24 and/or a part of the hatch 14 as in Figure 2, the abutment providing support to the second member 22 and assisting in inhibiting the movement of the second member 22. The base 38 of the second member 22 abuts the shield 36 of the first member 20, whereby the shield 36 inhibits movement of the second member 22 whilst the locking device 10 is attached to the container 24. The abutment means 40 is an overhang limiting access to the aperture 16 of the hatch 14 defined by the container 24.
The attachment means 26 is in the form of a shank 42, the shank being attached to the second member 22. The shank 42 defines a long axis along which the second member 22 rotates, and the rotation of the second member 22 around the long axis of the shank 42 is deterred by the abutment of the shield 36 of the first member 20 and the base 38 of the second member 22, thereby deterring the unauthorised removal of the locking device 10 from the container 24. The shield 36 limits access to the shank 42, and is integral the second member 22. The shank is generally cylindrical elongate, includes a tapered end 44 and includes a first threaded section (not shown) and a second counter-threaded section (not shown), the first threaded section having a larger diameter (not shown) relative the second counter-threaded section (not shown).
In an embodiment of the invention is shown in Figure 1, the securing means 28 is in the form of a plurality of nuts 46, typically two nuts 46. The nuts 46 are shaped and dimensioned to receive the shank 42. The first nut 48 has a larger bore diameter relative the second nut 50 bore diameter, the first nut 48 including a thread (not shown) and the second nut 50 including a counter thread (not shown). The first nut 48 is shaped and dimensioned to engage with the first threaded section of the shank 42 and the second nut 50 is shaped and dimensioned to engage with the second threaded section of the shank 42. Typically, the first nut 48 is advanced along the threaded portion of the shank 42 to an engaged position adjacent the first member 20 of the locking device 10. Advancement of the second nut 50 along the shank 42 towards the engaged position of the first nut 48 discourages removal of the first nut 48 away from the engaged position adjacent the first member 20 of the locking device 10.
In an embodiment not shown in the drawings, the first nut 48 and the second nut 50 define further apertures (not shown) for receiving a retaining pin (not shown). At least one of the apertures is threaded. The retaining pin is any one or more from the group of a screw, bolt, dowel pins, castellated nut and cotter pin arrangement and the like.
In a further embodiment not shown, the second nut 50 defines an aperture for receiving further retaining means (not shown), such retaining means being in the form of a security seal (not shown) In drawings 3 and 4 the reference numeral 60 generally refers to a locking device for the outlet of a container.
A locking device 60 for the outlet 62 of a container 24, wherein the outlet 62 includes an aperture (not shown) defined by the container 24, a cover 64 and an opening mechanism 66 for opening and closing the cover 64. The locking device 60, as shown in both Figure 3 and 4, includes an abutment means 68 abutting at least a part of the container 24 and/or the opening mechanism 66 when in a locked position; a brace 70 that is shaped and dimensioned to engage at least a part of the opening mechanism 66 of the outlet 62 of the container 24; a securing means 28, securing the brace 70 relative the container 24; and wherein the brace 70 and the abutment means 68, when engaging the opening mechanism 66 of the container 24, assist in deterring the unauthorised opening of the outlet 62 of the container 24.
The opening mechanism 66, as shown in Figure 4, of the container 24 includes a hydraulic lever system 72, and defines apertures 71 through which at least a part of the locking device 60 is received.
As shown in Figure 4 the locking device 60 abuts at least a part of the opening mechanism 66 of the container 24, specifically the hydraulic lever system 72 and thereby inhibits the movement of the hydraulic levers. The abutment means 68 abuts at least a part of the container, and defines an aperture 74, the aperture 74 receiving the extension 76 defined by the brace 70. The brace 70 is releasably attachable to the abutment means 68.
The brace 70 is received by the apertures 71 which are defined by the opening mechanism 66 of the container 24, the brace 70 thereby assists in inhibiting the movement of the levers of the hydraulic system 72 of the opening mechanism 66.
In an embodiment of the invention, the brace 70 is in the form of a shank 78 as in Figure 3, the shank 78 being generally elongate, specifically cylindrical elongate (not shown) and includes at least one tapered end (not shown), and one end which is shaped and dimensioned to receive a tool for rotating the shank 78 around its long axis. The shank 78 defines a groove (not shown) along its long axis, and also includes a first threaded section (not shown), a second counter-threaded section (not shown) and a third threaded section (not shown). The first threaded section includes a larger diameter relative the second counter-threaded section, and the third threaded section extends over at least a part of the remainder of the shank 78.
A further embodiment of the invention is shown in Figure 3, and includes the securing means 80 is in the form of a plurality of nuts 82, typically amounting to four nuts. The nuts 82 are shaped and dimensioned to receive the shank 78. The first nut 84 is shaped and dimensioned to receive the shank 78 and to abut at least a part of the opening mechanism 66 of the container 24 whilst the locking device 60 is in locked position. The first nut 84 defines two substantially parallel surfaces 86, and at least one of the surfaces is configured to complementarily fit a part of the opening mechanism 66.
Typically, the first nut 84 is advanced along the third threaded portion of the shank 78 to an abutted position adjacent a part of the opening mechanism 66 of the container 24. Rotation of the shank 78 around its long axis facilitates the abutment of the first nut 84 relative the opening mechanism 66. Once abutment has been facilitated, the surface 86 of the nut is configured to abut the opening mechanism 66 and assists in deterring the unauthorised rotation of the first nut 84.
The second nut 88 is shaped and dimensioned to receive the shank 78 and to abut at least a part of the opening mechanism 66 of the container 24 whilst the locking device 60 is in locked position. The second nut 88 defines surfaces 90, and at least one of the surfaces is configured to complementarily fit a part of the opening mechanism 66. The bore (not shown) of the second nut 88 defines a guide (no shown), the guide being shaped and dimensioned to be received by the groove defined by the shank 78, thereby assisting in inhibiting the rotation of the second nut 88. Typically, the second nut 88 is advanced along the shank 78 to an engaged position adjacent the opening mechanism 66.
The third nut 92 has a larger bore diameter relative the fourth nut 94 bore diameter. The third nut 92 includes a thread (not shown) and the fourth nut 94 includes a counter thread (not shown). The third nut 92 is shaped and dimensioned to engage with the first threaded section of the shank 78 and the fourth nut 94 is shaped and dimensioned to engage with the second threaded section of the shank 78.
Typically, the third nut 92 is advanced along the threaded portion of the shank 78 to an engaged position adjacent the second nut 88, and thereby assists in securing the locking device 60 to the opening mechanism 66 of the container 24.
Advancement of the fourth nut 94 along the shank 78 towards the engaged position of the third nut 92 discourages the removal of the third nut 92 away from the engaged position adjacent the second nut 88, and secures the opening mechanism 66 relative the locking device 60 and assists in inhibiting the unauthorised removal of goods from the container 24.
The third nut 92 and the fourth nut 94 define further apertures (not shown) for receiving a retaining pin (not shown) and at least one of the further apertures are threaded. The retaining pin is any one or more from the group of a screw, bolt, dowel pins, castellated nut and cotter pin arrangement and the like.
The fourth nut 94 defines an aperture for receiving further retaining means (not shown), the further retaining means being in the form of a security seal.
The inventor believes that the locking device prevents the loss and theft of cargo being transported by containers, by inhibiting the access to the container. The locking device assists in securing the opening mechanisms of both the inlet and outlet of the container and thereby assists in deterring unauthorised persons from gaining access to the container.

A locking device for an inlet of a container, wherein the inlet is a hatch and includes an aperture defined by the container and a cover, said locking device including: a first member being releasably attachable to the cover of the hatch; a second member being releasably attachable to the first member and shaped and dimensioned to releasably engage at least a part of the container or the hatch thereby facilitating the attachment of the locking device to the container; an attachment means for releasably attaching the first member to the second member; securing means for securing the first member relative the second member, and wherein the first member and the second member, whilst engaging the hatch and container, assist in deterring the displacement of the cover relative the aperture thereby assisting in minimizing unauthorised entry of the container.
2. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first member includes a hook.
3. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in claim 2, wherein the hook of the first member is releasably attachable to at least a part of the cover of the hatch.
4. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 2 to 3, wherein the hook of the first member is releasably attachable to the handle of the cover of the hatch.
5. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the first member defines an aperture which is shaped and dimensioned to receive the attachment means.

A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in claim 5, wherein the aperture defined by the first member receives the attachment means for releasably attaching the first member to the second member and thereby assists in deterring the removal of the locking device from the hatch of the container.
7. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the first member includes a shield.
8. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in claim 7, wherein the shield abuts at least a part of the second member.
9. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the second member includes a base.
10. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in claim 9, wherein the base of the second member is shaped and dimensioned to be received by the container or a part of the hatch.
11. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 9 to 10, wherein the base of the second member is shaped and dimensioned to abut the container, the abutment providing support to the second member and assisting in inhibiting the movement of the second member.
12. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 9 to 11, wherein the base of the second member abuts the shield of the first member, and whereby the shield assists in preventing any movement of the second member whilst the locking device is attached to the container.
13. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the base of the second member abuts an overhang surrounding the aperture of the hatch defined by the container.
14. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the attachment means is in the form of a shank.
15. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in claim 14, wherein the shank is attached to the second member.
16. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 14 to 15, wherein the shank defines a long axis, along which the second member may rotate.
17. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 14 to 16, wherein the rotation of the second member relative the long axis of the shank is deterred by the abutment of the shield of the first member and the base of the second member, thereby deterring the unauthorised removal of the locking device from the container.
18. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 14 to 17, wherein the shield limits access to the shank.
19. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one claims 14 to 18, wherein the shank is integral the second member.
20. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 14 to 19, wherein the shank is generally elongate.
21. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 14 to 20, wherein the shank is generally a cylindrical elongate and includes a tapered end.
22. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 14 to 21, wherein the shank includes a thread and includes a first threaded section and a second counter-threaded section, the first threaded section having a larger diameter relative the second counter- threaded section.
23. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the securing means is in the form of a nut.
24. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in claim 23, wherein the securing means includes a plurality of nuts.
25. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 24, wherein the securing means typically includes two nuts.
26. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 25, wherein the nuts are shaped and dimensioned to receive the shank.
27. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 26, wherein the first nut has a larger bore diameter relative the second nut bore diameter.
28. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 27, wherein the first nut includes a thread and the second nut includes a counter-thread.
29. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 28, wherein the first nut is shaped and dimensioned to engage with the first threaded section of the shank and the second nut is shaped and dimensioned to engage with the second threaded section of the shank.
30. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 29, wherein the first nut is advanced along the threaded portion of the shank to an engaged position adjacent the first member of the locking device.
31. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 30, wherein advancement of the second nut along the shank towards the engaged position of the first nut discourages removal of the first nut away from the engaged position adjacent the first member of the locking device.
32. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 31, wherein the first nut defines further apertures for receiving a retaining pin.
33. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 32, wherein at least one of the further apertures is threaded.
34. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 33, wherein the second nut defines further apertures for receiving a retaining pin.
35. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 34, wherein at least one of the further apertures is threaded.
36. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 35, wherein the retaining pin is any one or more from the group including a screw, bolt, dowel pins, castellated nut, cotter pin arrangement and the like.
37. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 36, wherein the second nut defines an aperture for receiving further retaining means.
38. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 23 to 37, wherein the further retaining means is in the form of a security seal.
39. A locking device for the outlet of a container, wherein the outlet includes an aperture defined by the container, a cover and an opening mechanism for opening and closing the cover, said locking device including: an abutment means abutting at least a part of the container and/or the opening mechanism when in a locked position; a brace that is shaped and dimensioned to engage at least a part of the opening mechanism of the outlet of the container; a securing means, securing the brace relative the container; and wherein the brace and the abutment means, when engaging the opening mechanism of the container, assists in deterring the unauthorised opening of the outlet of the container.
40. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in claim 39, wherein the opening mechanism of the container includes a hydraulic lever system.
41. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 39 to 40, wherein the opening mechanism defines apertures through which at least a part of the locking device may be received.
42. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 39 to 41, wherein the abutment means abuts at least a part of the opening mechanism of the container.
43. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in claim 42, wherein the abutment means abuts at least a part of the hydraulic lever system, and inhibits the movement of the hydraulic levers.
44. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 42 to 43, wherein the abutment means abuts at least a part of the container.
45. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 42 to 44, wherein the abutment means defines an aperture.
46. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 39 to 45, wherein the brace defines an extension, the extension being receivable by the aperture defined by the abutment means.
47. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in claim 46, wherein the brace is releasably attachable to the abutment means.
48. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 46 to 47, wherein the brace is received by the opening mechanism of the container, the brace thereby assisting in inhibiting the movement of the levers of the hydraulic system of the opening mechanism.
49. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 46 to 48, wherein the brace is in the form of a shank.
50. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in claim 49, wherein the shank is generally elongate.
51. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claim 49 to 50, wherein the shank is a cylindrical elongate and includes at least one tapered end.
52. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 49 to 51, wherein at least one end of the shank is shaped and dimensioned to receive a tool for rotating the shank around its long axis.
53. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 49 to 52, wherein the shank defines a groove.
54. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claim 49 to 53, wherein the shank defines a groove along its long axis.
55. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 49 to 54, the shank includes a thread, including a first threaded section, a second counter-threaded section and a third threaded section, the first threaded section including a larger diameter relative the second counter- threaded section, and the third threaded section extending over at least a part of the remainder of the shank.
56. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 39 to 55, wherein the securing means is in the form of a nut.
57. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in claim 56, wherein the securing means is in the form of a plurality of nuts.
58. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 57, wherein the securing means typically includes four nuts.
59. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 58, wherein the nuts are shaped and dimensioned to receive the shank.
60. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 59, wherein the first nut is shaped and dimensioned to receive the shank and to abut at least a part of the opening mechanism of the container whilst the locking device is in locked position.
61. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in claims 56 to 60, wherein the first nut defines two substantially parallel surfaces, and at least one of the surfaces is configured to complementarily fit a part of the opening mechanism.
62. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 61, wherein first nut is advanced along the third threaded portion of the shank to a position abutting at least a part of the opening mechanism of the container.
63. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 62, wherein rotation of the shank around its long axis facilitates the abutment of the first nut relative the opening mechanism, and once abutment has been facilitated, the surface of the nut is configured to abut the opening mechanism assisting in deterring rotation of the nut and the unauthorised rotation of the first nut.
64. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 63, wherein the second nut is shaped and dimensioned to receive the shank and to abut at least a part of the opening mechanism of the container whilst the locking device is in locked position.
65. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 64, wherein the second nut defines two substantially parallel surfaces, and at least one of the surfaces is configured to complementarily fit a part of the opening mechanism.
66. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 65, wherein the bore of the second nut defines a guide.
67. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in claim 66, wherein the guide is shaped and dimensioned to be received by the groove defined by the shank, and thereby assisting in inhibiting the rotation of the second nut.
68. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 67, wherein the second nut is advanced along the shank to an engaged position adjacent the opening mechanism.
69. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 68, wherein the third nut has a larger bore diameter relative the fourth nut bore diameter.
70. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 69, wherein the third nut includes a thread and the fourth nut includes a counter-thread.
71. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 70, wherein the third nut is shaped and dimensioned to engage with the first threaded section of the shank and the fourth nut is shaped and dimensioned to engage with the second threaded section of the shank.
72. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 71, wherein the third nut is advanced along the threaded portion of the shank to an engaged position adjacent the second nut, and thereby assists in securing the locking device to the opening mechanism of the container.
73. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 72, wherein advancement of the fourth nut along the shank towards the engaged position of the third nut discourages removal of the third nut away from the engaged position adjacent the second nut, and secures the opening mechanism relative the locking device and assists in inhibiting the unauthorised removal of goods from the container.
74. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 73, wherein the third nut defines further apertures for receiving a retaining pin.
75. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in claim 74, wherein at least one of the further apertures is threaded.
76. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 75, wherein the fourth nut defines further apertures for receiving a retaining pin.
77. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in claim 76, wherein at least one of the further apertures are threaded.
78. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 76, wherein the retaining pin is any one or more from the group including a screw, bolt, dowel pins, castellated nut and cotter pin arrangement and the like.
79. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in any one of claims 56 to 78, wherein the fourth nut defines an aperture for receiving further retaining means.
80. A locking device for the outlet of a container as claimed in claim 79, wherein the further retaining means is in the form of a security seal.
81. A kit for a locking device for a container, wherein the kit includes a locking device for an inlet of a container, wherein the inlet is a hatch and includes an aperture defined by the container and a cover, said locking device including: a first member being releasably attachable to the cover of the hatch; a second member being releasably attachable to the first member and shaped and dimensioned to releasably engage at least a part of the container and/or the hatch thereby facilitating the attachment of the locking device to the container; an attachment means for releasably attaching the first member to the second member; securing means for securing the first member relative the second member, and wherein the first member and the second member, when engaging the hatch and container, assist in deterring the displacement of the cover relative the aperture thereby assisting in minimizing the unauthorised entry of the container; a locking device for the outlet of the container, wherein the outlet includes an aperture defined by the container, a cover and an opening mechanism for opening and closing the cover, said locking device including: an abutment means abutting at least a part of the container and/or the opening mechanism when in a locked position; a brace that is shaped and dimensioned to engage at least a part of the opening mechanism of the outlet of the container; a securing means, securing the brace relative the container; and wherein the brace and the abutment means, when engaging the opening mechanism of the container, assist in deterring the unauthorised opening of the outlet of the container; and a key for tightening and loosening the locking device when in use.
82. A locking device for the inlet of a container as herein described and illustrated.
83. A locking device for the inlet of a container as claimed in claim 1 as herein described and illustrated.
84. A locking device for the outlet of a container as herein described and illustrated.
