Abstract

A device that displays a visual warning at the rear of an automobile by sourcing inputs from the driver before the brakes of the automobile is applied, thus warning the drivers of other automobiles following behind of its intent to slow down or stop and thus reduce driver reaction times (to a possible braking situation) in the driver of the vehicle following.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on 20 September 2010 (20.09.10)
1. A system for predictive alerts for collision aversion for automobiles, the system comprising an electronic unit adapted to be connected at one end to an accelerator pedal switch where the foot meets the pedal (A) a braking system (B) of the automobile and a speed sensor (X) and said electronic unit being connected to a display unit at the other end,
Characterized in that,
Said display unit consists of dual colored LEDs having dual colors that comprise of existing traffic signaling colours such as orange (amber) and red, but not limited to any specific colour and amendable by a competent authority.
Said display output from the unit can mean a trigger for any kind of primary and or secondary display that can include lights, display screens, transmitters to indirectly activate other systems and communicate with external devices and other independent systems such as in other automobiles
Said electronic unit consists of an electronic circuit that comprises of a programmable micro chip processor to enable the functioning of the display unit depending upon the inputs from the speed sensor (X), the switch in the accelerator pedal where the foot meets the pedal( A) and the brake pedal (B) , so that the relevant coloured LEDs blink only when the foot of the driver is off the accelerator pedal switch ( A) and not at idle position and said LEDs continue to blink even after the speed goes below the predetermined range set in the system as default and until the brake ( B ) is applied or until the foot of the driver is back on the accelerator pedal ( A ), the red LED always comes on overriding other possibilities when the driver actuates the brakes (B) , thereby the system enabling warning that an automobile is slowing down or decelerating even before the brakes are actually applied and the relevant warning LED continues to blink after the driver releases the brake until either the brake is applied again or the accelerator pedal is depressed.
2. A system for predictive alerts for collision aversion for automobiles as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the electronic unit is connected to a speed sensor ( x) for avoiding various threat levels at various speeds.
3. A system for predictive alerts for collision aversion for automobiles as claimed in claim 1 wherein a switch is provided at the accelerator where the foot meets the pedal and / or brake pedal.
4. A system for predictive alerts for collision aversion for automobiles as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the system displays a specific coloured warning light by the way of blinking sequence so that people with colour vision deficiency can read such warnings before the driver actually makes certain maneuvers thus warning other following drivers or pedestrians to be better prepared and thus reduce the reaction times.
5. A system for predictive alerts for collision aversion for automobiles as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the system is enabled in automobiles having both Cruise control system and non Cruise control system.
6. A system for predictive alerts for collision aversion for automobiles as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the system can be integrated into an existing electrical circuit of an automobile with an available speed sensor and existing brake switch and the conventional warning setup (standard stop lights) of an automobile such as the Centre High Mounted Stop Light (CHMSL) to enable display of a visual warning prior to a possible braking situation in the automobile.
6
7. A system for predictive alerts for collision aversion for automobiles as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the system operates from the power obtained from the automobile battery.
8. A system for predictive alerts for collision aversion for automobiles as claimed in claim 1 , wherein operation of the system is a function of deceleration and braking actions of the automobile.
9. A system for predictive alerts for collision aversion for automobiles as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the driver can voluntarily trigger the warning to road users behind by taking the foot off the accelerator pedal.
10. A system for predictive alerts for collision aversion for automobiles as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the warning is not falsely triggered when the throttle reaches the idle position when the foot eases on the pedal to coast or maintain a given speed, but is triggered only when the foot is taken off the pedal to possibly go for the brakes.
11. A system for predictive alerts for collision aversion for automobiles as claimed in claim 1 , where the said display output from the unit can mean a trigger for any kind of primary and or secondary display that can include lights, display screens and or transmitters to indirectly activate other systems and communicate with external devices and other independent systems such as in other automobiles.
The output from the main unit can be used to trigger external and or independent systems such as radio transmitters which in turn transmit relevant data to other systems as in other automobiles so that they may further audio video alerts in the following drivers' environment.
12. A system for predictive alerts for collision aversion for automobiles as claimed in claim 1 , wherein by use of standard colours such as amber and red as used in traffic signaling and in standard automobiles, the learning curve of road users is kept low so as not to give them any new signal language to learn.
