Abstract

Abstract An aquarium bio-reactor to treat water in the water environment of an aquarium, comprising a sub-gravel filteringinsert, which determines the sub-gravel zone connected with a channel conveying water and returning it above the bed, advantageouslywith admittance of air to water, characterized by having a preliminary bed (7) and a final bed located above it, the preliminary bed (7) being a layer of gravel or sand, and the final bed being a rigid self-supporting structure with ducts constituting thezone of biological life. The rigid self- supporting structure with ducts is a coherent plate (4), (104), (204) of charcoal. The plate may constitute a self-contained filteringinsert.
