Abstract
The invention relates to an arch structure characterised by a novel static frame which has been developed from a traditional static frame (three-hinged portal frame) in order to allow both of the slopes thereof (in this case two arc segments) to operate under axial forces instead of bending moments. This static frame forms the union between two arch segments which, prior to the application of external loads (as in the case of a hunting bow), are exposed to the adapted initial stress from the cords thereof. This stress varies according to the variation in the external loads, but it must always be positive (i.e. in a perpetual state of stress as in the case of a prestressed element). Each segment includes two hinges and the two segments are linked by a common hinge at the apex of the structure, known as the floating hinge (C), while the two other hinges (A, B) rest on the foundations.
