Abstract

Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for protecting digital content using hardware information. According to one preferred embodiment of the present invention, a client connected to a display acquires, from the display, hardware information of the display, to prevent the screen on which the digital content is being reproduced from being displayed on a screen of the display, thus protecting the digital content. Then, the client compares the acquired hardware information with the preset hardware information, and reproduces the digital content if the acquired hardware information matches the preset hardware information as a result of the comparison. The present invention is advantageous in that the digital content itself output through the screen of the display can be protected, and the digital content output through another external display can also be protected.
