Definitions
- a package for disposable sanitary articles having information printed thereon.
- the present invention relates to a package for disposable sanitary articles including an opening therein, a flap, which in a closed condition of said package covers said opening and which is foldable out of said opening, and information printed on the package.
- Disposable sanitary articles of today have a sophisticated construction and are effective in their way of handling fluid.
- the articles must be applied in a correct way. It has been shown to be a problem for users to understand how certain products, such as incontinence products, are to be applied.
- instructions of how to apply the articles have been printed on the outside of the package containing the articles.
- other important information such a size of the product within the package, absorption capacity, etc., is printed on the outside of the package.
- the package containing the articles is put on a shelf with the wall containing the opening of the package facing the user and all the other walls of the package being obscured by other packages and an upper and lower shelf.
- the information printed on the walls of the package not containing the opening is not visible to the user unless the package is taken out from the shelf. After opening of the package at least a portion of the wall containing the opening will be folded away thereby obscuring the view of the possible information printed on the outer side of this wall.
- a package for disposable sanitary articles including an opening therein, a flap, which in a closed condition of said package covers said opening and which is foldable out of said opening, and information printed on the package, characterised in that information is printed on the inside of said flap.
- the package has a parallelepipedic shape with a bottom wall, a top wall opposite to the bottom wall, two side walls, an upper and a lower wall, at least a part of said opening being located in the top wall and extended over the whole width thereof and said flap being foldable out of said opening around a folding line perpendicular to said side walls.
- said opening is extended into the upper wall.
- the sum of the extension of the opening in the plane of the top wall in a direction from the lower wall towards the upper wall and the extension of the opening in plane of the upper wall in a direction from the top wall towards the bottom wall is equal to or less than the extension of the top wall from the lower wall to said folding line.
- Said flap can be an integral part of the package and defined by a weakening line in the package material.
- fig. 1 schematically discloses a perspective view of a package according to a preferred embodiment of the invention.
- fig. 2 schematically discloses a partial front view of a cabinet having packages according to the invention located on a shelf thereof.
- FIG 1 a preferred embodiment of a package 1 for disposable, sanitary articles 2, in the present case incontinence protectors for incontinent females, is schematically disclosed.
- the package 1 has a parallelepipedic shape with a bottom wall 3, a top wall 4 opposite to the bottom wall, two side walls 5 and 6, an upper wall 7 and a lower wall 8.
- the package 1 also includes an opening 9, which before opening of the package is closed by a flap 10.
- Said opening 9 extends a distance b in an upper portion of top wall 4 and a distance c in a top portion of the upper wall 7 over the whole width of the package, i.e. the distance between the side walls 5,6.
- the package 1 is shown in an opened position, in which flap 10 has been being folded out of said opening 9 around a folding line perpendicular to said side walls 5,6.
- the top wall is by definition the wall of the package that contains the folding line for said flap.
- information such as instructions 11 of how to apply the incontinence protectors 2 is printed on the inside of the flap 10 as schematically indicated in figures 1 and 2. Thereby a user has access to these instructions as soon as the package is opened for removing of a protector therefrom.
- Instructions 12 of how to apply the protectors 2 can also be printed on the outside of the package 1, such as on side wall 5. However, instructions 12 printed on the outside walls of the package 1 will be hidden from the user if the package is put on a shelf 13 in a cabinet 14 as is evident from figure 2, in which three such packages 1 is shown stored on shelf 13.
- the instructions 11 of how to apply protectors 2 are accessible to the user without the need of taking the package 1 out of the cabinet 14.
- the pile of protectors 2 put into the package 1 is compressed.
- the protectors try to regain the volume lost by the compression and when a package 1 is opened, the portions of the protectors on level with the opening will expand.
- the top wall must have a certain extension, preferably the top wall is at least extending halfway between the lower wall 8 and upper wall 7.
- the package 1 is shown after such a number of protectors have been taken out of the package that also the lower portions of the protectors have been allowed to expand.
- the top wall 4 has an extension a, which is about 60% of the distance between the lower wall 8 and upper wall 7. If a flap should extend only the remaining 40% of said distance, i.e. distance b in figure 1 , the instructions printed on the inside of such a flap might be too small to enable an easy reading thereof. For this reason the opening 9 and thereby the flap 10 in the closed state of the package is extended a distance c into the upper wall 7.
- the extension c of the opening into the upper wall 7 is preferably equal to or less than a-b. Thereby, a folded out flap 10 will not extend lower than the lower wall 8 of the package 1 and will therefore not be extended over the edge of the shelf 13 where it might obstruct closing of a possible door of cabinet 14.
- the sum of distances b and c should thus preferably be equal to or less than distance a.
- distances b and c are equal to or less than distance a. If this sum should be greater than distance a, the flap can be prevented from being extended over the edge of shelf 13 by moving the package 1 inwardly away from said edge.
- the flap 2 is made of the same material as the rest of the package 1 and is an integral part thereof. Furthermore, before the package is opened the flap 10 is defined by weakening lines 15, in figure 2 shown as perforation lines but other types of weakening lines can of course be used.
- the package is preferably made of plastic material, such as a film of polyethylene, but other package material, e.g. cardboard, can be used.
- the package 1 contains incontinence protectors 2.
- the invention can also be applied to packages for other types of disposable, sanitary articles, such as diapers and sanitary napkins.
- the flap need not be an integral portion of the material of the package but can be a separate piece of material hingedly affixed to the top wall and releasably attached to the side walls and the upper wall.
- a separate piece of material must extend past the edges of the opening in the package in the closed state of the package.
- the opening need not extend into the upper wall since the flap can be made much larger than the opening.
- the articles need not be packaged in a compressed state even if this is preferred.
- the invention shall therefore not be limited by the described embodiments but only be restricted by the wording of the enclosed patent claims.
