Abstract
The present invention relates to a system for optimized streaming audio transmission in a utility computing environment. Based on a user request for streaming audio, a streaming server provides services to the user's audio player in a terminal server. An audio session control sends a request for audio content to a remote streaming server and negotiates media control parameters based on the network computer's receiving capabilites which are stored in a local configuration file. The parameters are sent to a compressed audio collector which collects streamed audio data from the streaming server through a separate data channel. A compressed audio redirector opens a UDP/TCP connection and redirects the audio content along with sequence number and timestamp information to the network computer through the UDP/TCP connection to a compressed audio collector. An audio decompresser and a D/A conversion decompress and convert audio content and pass it to a speaker to be played back.
