Abstract

A ball valve (1), which is used in particular as a high pressure valve for high pressure pumps of fuel injection systems of air compression, auto-ignition internal combustion engines, has a valve ball (3) and a valve seat surface (8). The valve ball (3) cooperates with the valve seat surface (8) to form a sealing seat in order to interrupt a connection between an inlet (6) and an outlet (7). Furthermore, this dampens an oscillational excitation and/or a rotational excitation of the valve ball (3), which counteract a closing of the sealing seat (9) between the valve ball (3) and the valve seat surface (8). Therefore, reliable closing of the ball valve (1) during an intake stroke following a delivery stroke is achieved.
