Description
Description
RELEASABLE SNAP-LOCK CONNECTION OF A FRONT PANEL ELEMENT TO AN IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE
[0001] Technical Field
[0002] The present invention relates to a display device comprising a front cover and a front panel which are fastened to each other by means of a snap structure.
[0003] The Prior Art
[0004] In display devices such as television and monitor, various front panel parts are used by being mounted onto the main front cover. These front panel elements can be either functional parts such as control panel lid and speaker grill, or decorative parts for changing the appearance of the device.
[0005] For fastening the front panel parts to the front cover, generally snap structures with detents are used. In these structures, a detent means, which forms a protrusion, is situated on the front panel part extension that enters into the front cover, and the fixing is provided by the detent means seating into the housing on the front cover. However, in these snap structures, the related part cannot be fixed in a precise manner and may move. In order to prevent this problem, a resilient spring portion is required to be added to the snap structure. This addition, which causes the snap structure to become complicated, creates a disadvantage in production, cost and assembly. In the situation that the thread in the back cannot be reached from the outside after the parts are fastened to each other, the front panel can only be removed by breaking the thread. Furthermore, these structures do not allow the front panel to be fastened to the front cover in different positions and in a stepped manner.
[0006] In the state of the art United States of America Patent Document No
US5583743, speaker covers, which are assembled to the front covers of appliances such as computer and television, are described. A structure with detents is used for mounting the covers to the casing.
[0007] In the state of the art Canadian Patent Document No CA2152303, a rear projection type television receiver is described. The screen assembly is coupled with the cabinet when the protrusions located on the screen
edges are inserted into the front housings of the cabinet. At the end and in the middle portion of the said protrusions, screen holding plates similar to detent means are situated.
[0008] Brief Description of the Present Invention
[0009] The aim of the present invention is the realization of a display device having a front panel which can be easily mounted and dismounted.
[0010] Another aim of the present invention is the realization of a display device, between the front cover and the front panel of which the desired distance can be left.
[0011] The display device realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, enables the front panel to be fixed to the front cover in different positions. The fixing, which is performed by the protrusions on the front panel seating into the housings on the front cover, can be performed in different steps by means of the protrusions having a structure with more than one node (T). During the fixing, according to the extent of entering of the protrusion to the housing, one of the nodes (T) seats into the opening (A) at the orifice of the housing. By means of the overlap margin (W) between the nodes (T) on the protrusion and the housing, the front cover is fixed to front panel in a firm and immovable manner at each step. On the other hand, when the front panel is desired to be removed, it can be easily removed by being force-pulled back without requiring any additional intervention.
[0012] Detailed Description of the Present Invention
[0013] The display device realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
[0014] Figure 1 - is the perspective view of an embodiment of the display device of the present invention.
[0015] Figure 2 - is the perspective view of a front cover inner surface.
[0016] Figure 3 - is the cross-sectional view of a front panel and a front cover, illustrating the housings and the protrusions thereon.
[0017] Figure 4 - is the perspective view of a front panel and a front cover.
[0018] Figure 5 - is the perspective view of the position of the protrusion seated in the housing in the situation wherein a front panel and a front cover are
fastened to each other. [0019] Figure 6 - is the cross-sectional view of the position of the protrusion seated in the housing. [0020] The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
1. Display device
2. Housing
3. Front cover
4. Protrusion
5. Front panel
[0021] The display device (1) comprises a front cover (3) which forms the front face of the display device (1) outer cabinet and which has at least one housing (2), and a front panel (5) which is assembled to the front cover (3) and which has at least one protrusion (4) (Figure 1).
[0022] The front cover (3) is the part that frames the screen of the display device (1). On the inner surface of the front cover (3), which is not visible from the outside when the front cover (3) is mounted to the display device (1), housings (2) that are formed by two opposite protrusions extending towards the inside are situated (Figure 3, Figure 6). The extensions forming the housing (2) get closer to each other towards their ends, and slightly move away from each other at a point close to the end. In the area wherein the distance between the extensions are at minimum, a neck (B) is formed at the end of the housing (2). The extensions, which move away from each other again after the neck (B) area, form an opening (A) at the end of the housing (2) after the neck (B).
[0023] The front panel (5) is assembled to the front cover (3). The front panel (5) is the part which is added to change the outer appearance of the control panel lid, speaker grill, or a display device (1), and can be mounted and dismounted by the user when desired. The front panel (5) comprises protrusions (4) on the face which faces the front cover (3) during the fastening of the front panel (5) to the front cover (3), at the points that correspond to the housings (2) (Figure 3, Figure 4). The fixing of the front panel (5) to the front cover (3) is performed by the protrusions (4) seating into the housings (2).
[0024] The protrusions (4) are shaped as an extension with at least two nodes
(T). The protrusions (4) are provided to be disposed into the housing (2) by one of the nodes (T) seating into the opening (A) at the orifice of the housing (4) and the other node seating to the lower portion of the neck (B) (Figure 5, Figure 6). During the fixing of the front panel (5) to the front cover (3), the neck (B) fits between the two nodes (T) and thus, provides the protrusion (4) to seat firmly into the housing (2). Meanwhile, the node (T) at the furthermost end of the protrusion (4) seats into the opening (A).
[0025] In the said snap structure, the points, wherein the protrusion (4) nodes (T) and the housing (2) contact, firmly snap onto each other by means of the overlap margin (W) therebetween and thus, a firm fixing is performed (Figure 6). Furthermore, by means of the protrusion (4) structure having more than one node (T), the extent of entering of the protrusion (4) into the housing (2), hence the distance between the front panel (5) and the front cover (3) can be adjusted in steps. For example, in an embodiment with three nodes, when the protrusion (4) is inserted into the housing (2) as much as the node at the furthermost end will seat into the opening (A), a certain gap remains between the front panel (5) and the front cover (3) and thus, the first fixing step is provided. When the protrusion (4) is inserted into the housing (2) as much as the second node will seat into the opening (A), a shorter distance remains between the front panel (5) and the front cover (3) and thus, the second fixing step is provided. Similarly, when the protrusion (4) is inserted as much as the third node will seat into the opening (A) at the end of the housing (2), the closest fixing between the front panel (5) and the front cover (3) is provided. Therefore, by means of the protrusion (4) structure with more than one node, the fixing of the front panel (5) to the front cover (3) can be provided in as many different positions as the number of nodes. Thus, the distance can be adjusted according to different usages of the front panel (3). For example, while a front panel (5) for decorative purposes is fixed to the front cover (3) without leaving a distance therebetween; a front panel (5) that will be used as speaker grill can be assembled such that a distance of a few millimeters will be left between the front panel (5) and the front cover (3) in order to
prevent the resonance and the related sound distortion. It is to be understood that a wide variety of embodiments of the snap structure used in the display device (1) can be developed in the scope of this essential concept, and the present invention is basically as in the claims and cannot be limited with the examples explained herein.
