Description
PEDESTAL FAN WITH FAN GRILL COMPRISING DIVERTING SURFACE AND WIND DIRECTION CHANGING MECHANISM
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a pedestal fan of the type which has a fan grill comprising diverting surface and wind direction changing mechanism.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART
Pedestal fans are well known in the art. Such fans allow positioning of the fan above the floor, and usually have a fan grill pivoting to change the direction of wind but no diverting surface. Whereas, fans with diverting surface are of the type having no standing tube and are called box fans, these types of fans do not - pivot to change the direction of wind. In box fans, fan blades for diverting wind turn round in concentricity with the fan blades but at different speed, this structure causes wind to whirl when changing direction of the wind but the box fan is still in stationary state. The greatest disadvantage of these two types of fan is that the wind is irregularly diverted and is not propagated far away.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
In accordance with the invention a pedestal fan is provided, which includes a fan grill comprising diverting surface and wind direction changing mechnism.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a pedestal fan with a fan grill comprising diverting surface and wind direction changing mechnism.
The pedestal fan according to the invention includes a base with a length of tubing carried therein, and which can be of multiple pieces, the ratchet assembly has a neck, to be described which has a fan motor assembly attached thereto in well known manner, and which can be rotated about the ratchet assembly. The extension has a pair of spaced walls and with a slot therebetween, which retains the neck therein by a bolt which is through the two walls and is the rotary shaft for the fan grill to pivot when the fan grill is pulled forwards or pushed backwards. The cylinder in front of the neck has a circular portion for holding the sleeve of the neck with the bolt which can turn round in the sleeve, and is held in the circular portion by a screw. A steel plate which is provided with a funnel is mounted on the head of the bolt by a nut, there is provided a plastic filler plate with lugs on both sides of the direction changing motor. The shaft of the direction
changing motor has a crank, a connecting rod of which one end is mounted on the crank and the other end is in a fixed bearing which is fixed to the sleeve of the neck. The front of the fan grill is mounted on the wll of the still plate by a screw, the back of the fan grill is fit mounted to the front structure. The fan blades and the main motor is mounted to the front structure of the fan grill.
Other objects and advantageous features of the invention will be apparent from the description and claims.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The nature and characteristic features of the invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a pedestal fan in use incorporating the invention;
FIG.2 is a side elevational view of the pedestal fan of FIG.1 ;
FIG. 3 is a of the pedestal fan of FIG. 1 when the back of the fan grll is removed;
FIG. 4 is an exploded perspective view of the ratchet assembly of the pedestal fan of FIG. 1 from the left side, and
FIG. 5 is a view similar to FIG. 4, but from the right side.
It should, of course, be understood that the description and drawings herein are merely illustrative and that various modifications and changes can be made in the structures disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention. Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
When referring to the preferred embodiment, certain terminology will be utilized for the sake of clarity. Use of such terminology is intended to encompass not only the described embodiment, but also technical equivalents which operate and function in substantially the same way to bring about the same result.
Referring now more particularly to FIGS. 1-5 of the drawings, a pedestal fan is therein illustrated. The pedestal fan includes a base 1 with a length of tubing 2 carried therein.
The tubing 2 has an extension 3 from a ratchet assembly engaged therewith,
and secured thereto in well known manner. The neck 4 of the fan is received in the channel of the extension 3 and is secured thereto by the bolt 5 which in addition is the rotary shaft for the neck 4 when the neck is pulled forwards or pushed backwards.
Returing to Fig.4, which is an exploded perspective view of the ratchet assembly of the pedestal fan of FIG. 1. The cylinder portion 6 has at its center a tube 7 which the bolt 8 can rotate inside, the bolt 8 is held in the tube 17 by screw 9. The steel plate 10 is provided a funnel 10. a, one end of the funnel is attached to the bolt 8 by the nut 8a (as shown on Fig.5). There provided a spacer 11 of plastic with lugs l l.a on both sides of the direction changing motor 12 which is mounted on the spacer 11.
The rotary rod of the direction changing motor has crank 14, on which one end of the connecting rod 15 is mounted, the other end of the connecting rod 15 is fixed to the bearing 16 which is fixed to the tube 17. The front structure of the fan grill 18 is fixed to the wall 19 of the steel plate 10 by the screw 20, the back structure of the fan grill 21 is attached to the front one 18, the fan blades 22 and the main motor (not shown on the figures) is fixed to the front structure of the fan grill 18.
Because the rotary shaft of the direction changing motor 12 has crank 12, and one end of the connecting rod 15 is mounted on the crank 12 and the other end is fixed to the bearing 16 which is fixed to the tube 17, at the same time the steel plate 10 is fixed to the bolt 8 and the bolt 8 can turn around in the tube 17, when the direction changing motor 12 turns, the crank 14 moves, this movement causes the connecting rod 15 moves accordingly. However, one end of the connecting rod 15 is fixed, it pushes the steel plate 10 to move to the left and right about the bolt 8. On one hand, the front structure of the fan grill 18 is fixed to the wall 19 by the screw 20 and the back structure of the fan grill 21 is fixed to the front one 18, then when the plate 10 swings about the bolt 8, the two structures of the grill move to the left and the right about the bolt 8.
The main motor and fan blades are mounted fixedly to the front structure of the fan grill 18 with the diverting surface. This construction makes regular propagation of wind when the fan grill swings to the left and to the right.
