Description
PAINT ROLLER WITH ADJUSTABLE COVER AND PAINT DRIP COLLECTOR
Background of the invention
The present invention relates generally to paint trays and tools and, more specifically, to a new disposal applies to a paint roller having an adjustable paint cover whereby a user can easily adjust the shielding from a minimum protection to a maximum protection position. This paint cover is also shaped to direct the paint drip to a removable paint drip collector. Known State of Art
The American patents USD396906, US3058145, US3942209, US4091493, US4254529, US4569099, US4667363, US4696072, US5960511 and the Brazilian document BRMU8600606 are all variations of the original shielded paint roller that protects from paint splatter. The documents US3538532, US3457582, US3748683, US4593428 describe paint rollers endowed with removable paint covers or shields. The US3654658 relates to a device adapted to be affixed to a conventional paint roller to serve as a splatter shield. The US3825970 describe a paint roller retaining frame having an integral paint shield. The US4011622 refers to an attachment to a paint roller that includes a semi-cylindrical shield and a plurality of slotted clips to permit the shield to be positioned with respect to a paint roller pad. The US406325 refers to an assembly that includes support means having a plurality of longitudinally extending parallel rods shaped to removably receive a semi-cylindrical splash shield in spaced relationship to a paint roller.
Novelty of the invention
The invention shown and described in this report has the objective of characterize a paint roller endowed with a paint protection that is also adjustable, allowing since a minimum protection against paint splatter until a maximum protection position, being such adjustment easily carried away for the user. The paint roller also has a paint cover shaped to direct the paint excess to a removable paint reservoir that can be removed and substituted or washed and replaced when filled completely with paint.
Description of the drawings The present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the paint roller with the adjustable paint cover completely collected, propitiating a minimum level of protection. Figure 2 is a perspective view of the paint roller with the adjustable paint cover completely open, propitiating a maximum level of protection.
Figure 3 is a rear perspective view of the paint roller where we can clearly see the paint collector reservoir. Figure 4 is a generally top view of the paint roller which illustrates the shape of the frame that supports the paint roller and the adjustable cover.
Figure 5 is a cross sectional view of the paint roller which illustrates the adjustable cover and indicates a detail of the same.
Figure 6 is the detail indicated in the previous figure illustrated in a larger scale.
Figure 7 is an exploded perspective view of the paint roller where one of the end caps and the paint roller itself were omitted to provide a better view of the relevant aspects of the invention. Detailed description of the invention The paint roller with adjustable cover and paint drip collector is constituted of a whole piece that comprehends the handle (1 ) and a protection cover against paint splatter (2), such cover (2) acts like a support for the paint roller (3) and to a movable protection cover (4), whose position with respect to the cover (2) can be adjusted since a position of minimal protection (5) until a position of maximum protection (6) (as illustrated in the figure 2).
In figures 3 and 4 we see that the cover (2) is endowed with an inclined bottom (7) that converges to a salience (8) that receives the coupling from a removable reservoir (9). Internally the salience (8) defines an opening (10) for which the excess of paint captured for the cover (2) and adjustable cover (4) is lead by the inclined bottom (7), being stored in the removable reservoir (9). Once this reservoir (9) is completely full with paint it can be removed, to be replaced or to be clean. The reservoir (9) is endowed with a external cylindrical body (11), a ring stopper (12) and an extreme portion (13), that engage with the internal surface of the opening (10) being fixed by thread or pressure. The external body (11) is provided on its surface of grooves (14) that increase the attrition of the fingers of the user against its surface and facilitate its withdrawal or replacement.
Referring to the figures 5, 6 and 7, we see that the protection cover (2) is formed for two long sidewalls (15) that have
internal salient rings (16), whose central portion is adapted to receive the extremities (17) from the axle (18) of the end caps (19) of the paint roller (3), while the external cylindrical surface of such salient rings (16) presents a diameter adjusted to receive two circular openings (20) existing in the lateral members (21 ) from the movable cover (4). In this way, the rings (16) act as a roller shaft to the rotation of the paint roller (3) and also for the movable cover (4).
Said movable cover (4) is provided with a plurality of salient teeth (22) that works along with a salient edge (23) that projects perpendicularly of the inner surface of the cover protection (2) to get coupling in several different adjustments of position, each one correspondent to a tooth (22). A border (24) located at the beginning of the tooth series (22) propitiates a surface of support for the finger of the user, facilitating to the same put into motion the movable cover (4), while another salient border (25) located in the final edge of the cover (4) acts as stopper of the movement of the same.
Claims
Claim:
1- Paint roller with adjustable cover and paint drip collector constituted of a whole piece that comprehends the handle
(1 ) and a protection cover against paint splatter (2) characterized for such cover (2) acting like a support for the paint roller (3) and to a movable protection cover (4), whose position with respect to the cover
(2) can be adjusted since a position of minimal protection (5) until a position of maximum protection (6), being that cover (2) endowed with an inclined bottom (7) that converges to a salience (8) that receives the coupling from a removable reservoir (9), internally defining an opening (10) for which the excess of paint captured for the cover (2) and adjustable cover (4) is lead by the inclined bottom (7), being stored in the removable reservoir (9).
2- Paint roller with adjustable cover and paint drip collector as claimed in 1 and characterized for the reservoir (9) being endowed with a external cylindrical body (11), a ring stopper
(12) and an extreme portion (13), that engage with the internal surface of the opening (10).
3- Paint roller with adjustable cover and paint drip collector as claimed in 2 and characterized for the extreme portion
(13) engage with the internal surface of the opening (10) by thread or pressure.
4- Paint roller with adjustable cover and paint drip collector as claimed in 2 and characterized for the external body (11 ) being provided on its surface of grooves (14) that increase the attrition of the fingers of the user against its surface.
5- Paint roller with adjustable cover and paint drip collector as claimed in 1 and characterized for the protection cover (2) being formed for two long sidewalls (15) that have internal salient rings (16), whose central portion is adapted to receive the extremities (17) from the axle (18) of the end caps (19) of the paint roller (3), while the external cylindrical surface of such salient rings (16) presents a diameter adjusted to receive two circular openings (20) existing in the lateral members (21) from the movable cover (4).
6- Paint roller with adjustable cover and paint drip collector as claimed in 1 and characterized for the movable cover
(4) being provided with a plurality of salient teeth (22) that works along with a salient edge (23) that projects perpendicularly of the inner surface of the cover protection (2) to get coupling in several different adjustments of position, each one correspondent to a tooth (22). 7- Paint roller with adjustable cover and paint drip collector as claimed in 6 and characterized for an border (24) being located at the beginning of the tooth series (22) to propitiate a surface of support for the finger of the user, facilitating to the same put into motion the movable cover (4). 8- Paint roller with adjustable cover and paint drip collector as claimed in 1 and characterized for a salient border (25) being located in the final edge of the cover (4) to acts as stopper of the movement of said movable cover (4).
