Abstract

The present descriptive report refers to a Utility Model Patent for a flow control valve for vehicles' radiators, from the autoparts field and it was developed to avoid the cooling liquid to overflow when the engine is heated and the radiator's expanded reservoir is opened.

Description

Title: "FLOW CONTROL VALVE FOR GENERAL VEHICLES1 RADIATORS" DISCLOSURE OF THE PATENT Many times, for maintenance or application of an additive or filling with water, it is required the opening of the radiator's expanded reservoir with the engine still heated. On these times, due to the high pressure inside the cooling system, generated by the engine's heating, often cooling liquid overflows through the hole of the expanded reservoir, which makes the maintenance difficult and/or puts in risk the safety of whom is performing the maintenance, since the cooling liquid is on high temperatures and/or gathers other issues and setbacks. Therefore, the goal of the utility model patent is to provide a valve that fixes such issues. Another goal is to provide a valve that doesn't requires modifications on the cooling system characteristics for it's installation. Yet another goal is to provide an easy installation valve. Yet one other goal is to provide a simple valve that can be easily applied. And another goal is to provide a adequate cost valve. Therefore, the main purpose of dealing with the issues reported previously and achieving the related goals, the FLOW CONTROL VALVE FOR GENERAL VEHICLES' RADIATORS, object of the present utility model patent, which is installed on the entrance of the expanded reservoir and is attached to the radiator's hose and it's essentially composed by: a valve's body in substancial form of a inverted cup which it's superior inner wall has larger central openings for the cooling liquid when the cooling system and the engine are in regular conditions and peripheral openings where the liquid in regular conditions of the system and engine and mainly for the controlled 1 circulation of the cooling liquid when the expanded reservoir is opened; using a
stopper system, composed by: a cross-like pole on the edge, which is attached
to the center of the superior inner wall of the valve's body and are a little
extended for beyond the under opening; and through an extension of the
under opening; and through a hindrance disk for sliding the pole, with a closed β central region and aligned to the central openings of the valve's body and
peripheral openings aligned to the peripheral openings of such valve's body; β the referred disk has suitable size, weight and other characteristics for
Θ sliding the pole through the push created by the cooling liquid flow between
the two positions: a lower position, in which the flow is generated by the
normal work of the cooling system and the engine and opens the lower
opening of the valve, for having the required flow for the regular working
conditions; and the superior position for which the generated push through the
opening of the expanded reservoir, when, then, the valve's body and the is peripheral openings of such a disk align to the peripheral openings of the
valve's body and remain opened, for the controlled circulation of the flow.
This valve solves the issue of overflowing the expanded reservoir since,
when it's opened, it occurs and violent increase on the velocity of the flow of
the cooling liquid. This flow pushes the stopper disk of the valve to the superior
position, which closes the central openings of the valve's body, in which the
cooling liquid circulates on it's regular working conditions of the cooling system
and engine, and keep the peripheral openings open, where the cooling liquid
remains flowing in a controlled manner, avoiding overflowing.
On the other side, the regular working conditions of the engine, the flow
of the cooling liquid keeps the stopper disk in the lower position, which opens
the valve's body, where the cooling liquid exits through the central and
peripheral superior openings, with no issues for the proper working of the
cooling system and engine.
The present valve is an advantage, for being easily installed and avoids
alterations on the cooling system. The present valve has easy manufacturing and low cost building, making it suitable for the application. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The drawings refer to the FLOW CONTROL VALVE FOR GENERAL VEHICLES1 RADIATORS, object of the present patent, which: Fig. 1 - shows a valve with it's parts separated; Fig. 2 - shows in floor plan; Fig. 3 - shows it, in cut, what is indicated on fig.2 and in the corresponding position to the regular working conditions of a cooling system and engine; Fig. 4 - shows the same as fig.3, but with the valve in it's position when the expanded reservoir is opened; and Fig. 5 - shows a view of the valve applied to a radiator system and expanded reservoir. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PATENT According to the illustrative figures above related, the FLOW CONTROL VALVE FOR GENERAL VEHICLES" RADIATORS, present object of the utility model patent, installed on the entrance of the expanded reservoir 20 (fig.5) which is attached to the hose 21 from the radiator 22, is destined to control the overflow of cooling liquid when the expanded reservoir is opened and is, essentially, a: hollow cylinder valve's body 2 with a upper inner wall 3 and a under opening 4; inner wall 3 has bigger central openings 5, from where the cooling liquid flows on normal conditions of working of the cooling system and engine and smaller peripheral openings 6 which flows the cooling liquid on normal conditions of working of the cooling system and mainly for the cooling liquid to flow in an controlled manner in the condition where the expanded reservoir 20 is opened; such valve is also a stopper system, composed by: a cross-like pole 7 which it's superior edge is attached to the center of the superior inner wall 3 and the inferior edge is slightly extended beyond the lower opening 4 of the valve's body 2; and through a hindrance disk 8 attached and able to slide on the pole 7 and with a central closed area 9 and peripheral openings 10 that are aligned, respectively, to the bigger central openings 5 and small peripheral openings 6 of the upper inner wall 3 of the valve's body; such hindrance disk 8 has suitable size and weight to slide on the pole 7 through the flow of the cooling liquid between the two positions: for the lower position (fig.3) corresponding to the normal working conditions of the cooling system and engine, where such a disk opens the lower opening 4 of the valve's body 2, allowing the suitable cooling flow for the normal operation of the cooling system and engine; the upper position (fig.4) corresponds to the condition where the expanded reservoir 20 is opened and there is and increase of the push velocity of the cooling liquid's flow, causing a push against the disk 8 that goes against the upper wall 3 of the valve's body thus, the central region 9 of the peripheral openings 10 of such a disk, respectively, close the central openings 5 and keep opened the peripheral openings 6 of such wall 3, therefore allowing control of the flow and avoiding it's overflow through the expanded reservoir. Detailing, the valve's cylindrical body 2 and preferably is short, around 2 cm, and suitable diameter for the cooling system which is destined to and it's inner wall has rubber covering for attaching on the inner side of the expanded reservoir's opening 20. Pole 7 can be plastic or rustproof metal. The hindrance disk 8 can be made of plastic or rustproof metal of high resistance, covered or not by rubber. The rubber on the valve's body is such that allows attaching of the valve's body 2 on the expanded reservoir 20 and hindrance. The valve works according to: ideal conditions of normal operations of the cooling system and the engine (fig.3) there is a corresponding flow of cooling liquid between the expanded reservoir 20 and the hose 21 typical of normal operating conditions of the cooling system and the engine. The characteristics of this flow are such that maintain the hindrance disk 8 in it's lower position on the pole 7, in which is slightly projected out of interior opening 4 of the valve's body 2, on the outer side of such a disk 8 and the inner wall of the valve's body 2, through the superior openings 5 and 6 and through the expanded reservoir 20. When the expanded reservoir 20 is opened, there is an increase of the push's velocity of the cooling liquid (fig.4). The push of such a liquid goes against the hindrance disk 8 and slides it along the pole 7 until it meets the upper wall 3 of the valve's body, in a way that the central region 9 and the peripheral openings 10 of such disk, respectively, close the central openings 5 and keeps opened the peripheral openings 6 of the upper wall 3 of the valve's body, therefore blocking the cooling liquid flow so it will not overflow through the expanded reservoir's opening 20. Inside the basic build, above described, the valve, object of the present patent, can present modifications related to it's materials, size, building details and/or functional and/or ornamental setup, without losing it's protective function, aim of the project. The valve can be modified to adapt different cooling systems.
