The hinge sub-assembly 1 adjacent to the sash, fitted with the arc-shaped slide 11 and secured to the roof window sash frame 2, is located in the recess 21 for the hinge, made in the side member of this sash, at the outer side of the sash. The recess 21 is made in a part of the sash 2 thickness, at the side which is outside when the window is closed. The hinge sub-assembly 1 has a fastening plate 12, which is adjacent to the side surface 22 of the recess 21 in the sash frame, and has two oblique holders: the recessed oblique holder 13 and the outer oblique holder 14, both being fragments of the fastening plate 12, bent at an acute angle relative to the main plane of adhesion of the fastening plate 12 to the side surface 22 of the recess in the sash frame.
Each of the oblique holders 13 and 14 has a hole 15 with a conical socket for the head of the screw 3 fastening the hinge sub-assembly 1 to the frame 2, moreover the geometrical axes of the holes 15 are in the planes crosswise to the longer side of the fastening plate 12. The screws 3 fastening the hinge sub- assembly 1 to the sash frame 2 are situated diagonally to the main plane of this frame and are screwed in the wider part of the side member of the window sash frame 2, passing by the thinned wall formed between the recess 21 for the hinge and the recess 23 for mounting the roof window pane going along the whole length of the side sash member. The recessed oblique holder 13 is located at this side of the fastening plate 12 which is adjacent to the side surface 22 of the recess in the sash frame. Therefore, there is a cavity 24 for the recessed holder 13 in the side surface 22 of the sash frame recess 2, milled diagonally (as in fig. 1 and 2) or perpendicular to the side surface 22 of the recess. Thanks to this location, both the recessed oblique holder 13 and the screw 3 seated in its hole, are beyond the plane of mating of the arc-shaped slide 11 of the sub-assembly 1 fastened to the sash and the guide in the hinge sub-assembly fastened to the window frame.
Also two locating pins (not visible in the figure) are seated in the fastening plate 12; they enter the cylindrical holes 25 in the sash frame. In addition, the fastening plate 12 in its flat part has two holes 16 (only one is visible, the other one is obstructed by the slide 11 ) for additional screws 31 located perpendicular to the fastening plate 12 and at the same time parallel to the main surface of the sash frame, which in the case of a flat pane is identical with the pane surface. The holes 16 have conical sockets for heads of screws 31 , which are screwed in the wall between the recess 21 for the hinge and the recess 23 for the roof window pane or slightly below the pane recess.
The other hinge sub-assembly 4 (fig. 5), adjacent to the window frame, having an arc-shaped guide 41 and secured to the roof window frame 5, is located in the recess 51 for the hinge, made in the side member of the window frame at the inner side of the frame. The recess 21 is located in a part of the thickness of the window frame 2, at the outer side of the window. The hinge sub-assembly 4 has a fastening plate 42, which is adjacent to the side surface 52 of the recess 51 in the window frame, and also has two oblique holders: the recessed oblique holder 43 and the outer oblique holder 44, both being fragments of the fastening plate 42, bent at an acute angle relative to the main plane of adhesion of the fastening plate 42 to the side surface 52 of the recess in the window frame. Each of the oblique holders 43 and 44 has a screw hole 3, with a conical socket for the screw head, fastening the hinge sub-assembly 4 to the window frame 5, moreover the geometrical axes of the holes 15 are in planes crosswise to the longer side of the fastening plate 42. The screws 3 fastening the hinge sub- assembly 4 to the window frame 5, are situated diagonally to the main plane of this frame and are screwed into the wider part of the side member of the window frame 5, passing by the thinned wall formed between the recess 51 for the hinge and the opposite, or outer wall of the side window frame member. The recessed oblique holder 43 is situated at this side of the fastening plate 42 which is adjacent to the side surface 52 of the recess in the window frame. Therefore, there is a cavity 53 for the recessed holder 43 in the side surface 52 of the window frame recess, milled diagonally (as in fig. 5) or perpendicular to the side surface 52 of the recess. Thanks to this location, both the recessed oblique holder 43 and the screw 3 seated in its hole are beyond the plane of mating of the arc-shaped guide 41 of the hinge sub-assembly 2, fastened to the window frame, and the arc-shaped slide 11 of the hinge sub-assembly 1 , fastened to the window sash.
Also two locating pins, identical as in the sub-assembly 1 at the sash 2, entering the cylindrical holes in the window frame, are seated in the fastening plate 42 of the hinge sub-assembly 4. In addition, the fastening plate in its flat part has holes for additional screws perpendicular to the fastening plate 42 and at the same time parallel to the main plane of the window frame. The holes have conical sockets for heads of screws, which are screwed into the wall between the recess 41 for the hinge, and the opposite, or outer surface of the side member of the window frame. Alternatively, the hinge sub-assembly fitted with a guide may be a solution known from the prior art, i.e. secured to the window frame only with screws perpendicular to the hinge fastening plate and at the same time parallel to the main plane of the window frame. The tensile strength and stiffness of the window frame is usually higher than of the sash frame, which allows to leave the known hinge and its fastening in the window frame.
Two hinges are mounted in the roof window, symmetrical to each other - one right and the other one left. When the window is closed, the arc-shaped slide 11 of the hinge sub-assembly 1 fastened to the sash 2 is fully inserted into the arc- shaped guide 41 of the hinge sub-assembly 4 fastened to the window frame 4. The guide pin 17 mounted in the fastening plate 12 is located on the extension 5 of the arc-shaped line of slide 11 , which is put the furthest in the arc-shaped guide 41 of the hinge, when the window is closed.
When the window is being opened, the arc-shaped slide 11 , along with the guide pin 17, eject from the arc-shaped guide 41 , as a result the window sash turns around the theoretical axis of rotation of the hinge situated in the middle of the curvature of the arc-shaped guide and the arc-shaped slide, at the outer side of the window pane surface. During this movement the guide pin 17, staying in the arc-shaped guide 41 , prevents rotation of the fastening plate 12 in the hinge sub-assembly 1 around the axis 18, on which the arc-shaped slide is mounted, and prevents rotation of the sash frame 2 and the whole window sash. At the end of ejection of the hinge sub-assembly 1 from the arc-shaped guide 41 , the guide pin 17 passes by the end 45 of this guide, which enables rotation of the window sash around the axis 18 and the arc-shaped slide 11 (this position is illustrated in the fig. 6), therefore further opening of the window is performed by turning its sash around the actual axis 18 instead of the theoretical axis.
Example 2. The hinge according to the second embodiment of the invention, for a roof window with a top hung sash only, moving around a horizontal axis located in the central zone of the window, consists of a sub-assembly fitted with an arc-shaped slide, fastened to the roof window sash (picture - fig. 6) and a sub-assembly fitted with an arc-shaped guide, fastened to the window frame.
The hinge sub-assembly 6 adjacent to the sash has a fastening plate 62, which is adjacent to the side surface 22 of the recess 21 in the sash frame, identical as in the first embodiment. The hinge sub-assembly 6, in its central part, has a central oblique holder 63, being a fragment of the fastening plate 62, bent at an acute angle relative to the main plane of adhesion of the fastening plate 62 to the side surface 22 of the recess in the sash frame. In addition, the hinge sub- assembly 6 is fitted with an arc-shaped slide 11 pivotally connected to the fastening plate 62, by way of the axis 18, identical as in the first embodiment.
The central oblique holder 63 has two holes 65 with conical sockets for heads of the screws 3 fastening the hinge sub-assembly 2 to the frame 2, moreover the geometrical axes of the holes 65 are in the planes crosswise to the longer side of the fastening plate 12. The central oblique holder 63 is a recessed holder, located at this side of the fastening plate 62 which is adjacent to the side surface 22 of the recess in the sash frame. Therefore, there is a cavity 26 for the central oblique holder 33 in the side surface 22 of the sash recess 2, milled diagonally (as in fig. 6) or perpendicular to the side surface 22 of the recess. Thanks to this location, both the central oblique holder 63 and the screws 3 seated in its holes are beyond the plane of mating of the arc-shaped slide 11 of the sub-assembly fastened to the sash, and a guide in the hinge sub-assembly fastened to the window frame. The screws 3 fastening the hinge sub-assembly 6 to the sash frame 2, are situated diagonally to the main plane of the sash and are screwed in the wider part of the side member of the window sash frame 2, passing by the thinned wall formed between the recess 21 for the hinge, and the recess 23 for mounting the window pane going along the whole length of the sash frame side member.
Also two locating pins (not visible in the figure) are seated in the fastening plate 62, entering the cylindrical holes 25 in the sash frame 2. In addition, the fastening plate 62 in its flat part has two holes 66, for additional screws situated perpendicular to the fastening plate 62, and at the same time parallel to the main surface of the sash frame, which in the case of a flat pane is identical with the pane surface. The holes 16 have conical sockets for heads of the screws 25, which are screwed in the wall between the recess 21 for the hinge and the recess 23 for the roof window pane or slightly below the pane recess.
The other hinge sub-assembly, fitted with an arc-shaped guide and fastened to the roof window frame, is identical as in the first embodiment (fig. 5). Alternatively, the hinge sub-assembly fitted with a guide may be a solution known from the prior art, i.e. can only be secured to the window frame with screws perpendicular to the hinge fastening plate, and at the same time parallel to the main plane of the window frame.
Example 3. The hinge according to the third embodiment example is intended for a bi-functional tilt-turn roof window, i.e. opened as a top hung window by a turn of the sash around a horizontal axis located in the upper part of the window, and as a pivot window - by a turn of the sash around a horizontal axis located lower, in particular in the window central zone. In this hinge the sub- assembly fastened to the window sash is identical as in the first embodiment: it contains an arc-shaped slide connected pivotally to the fastening plate, which has two oblique holders: the recessed and outer one, for oblique situated screws fastening this plate to the window sash frame.
The other hinge sub-assembly, fitted with a guide, is a component of a metal intermediary arm, therefore this invention is not used in this sub-assembly. Also connection of the intermediary arms to the window frame is of a different design, so the solution according to the invention only occurs in the hinge sub- assembly connected to the window sash.
Example 4. The hinge according to the fourth embodiment example, similar to the third embodiment hinge is intended for a bi-functional tilt-turn window. In this hinge the sub-assembly fastened to the window sash is identical as in the second embodiment: it contains an arc-shaped slide pivotally connected to the fastening plate, which has an oblique central holder for screws situated diagonally fastening this plate to the sash frame. The other hinge sub-assembly, fitted with the guide, is a component of a metal intermediary arm, as in the third embodiment, so this invention only occurs in the hinge sub-assembly connected to the window sash.
Example 5. The hinge fastening sub-assembly according to the fifth embodiment example (fig. 7 and 8) is intended for a window roof sash, which is either a pivot only sash or a bi-functional tilt-turn sash. The hinge sub-assembly 7 adjacent to the sash, known from the prior art, with an arc-shaped slide 11 , has a fastening plate 72, which is adjacent to the side surface 22 of the recess 21 in the sash frame 2, identical as in the first and second embodiments. The hinge fastening unit is fitted with two cylindrical intermediary inserts 8, located in cylindrical sockets 27 in the side surface 22 of the recess 21 in the sash frame, perpendicular to this side surface. The intermediary insert 8 has a cylindrical through hole 81 as well as an oblique through hole 82 for the screw 3, with a conical socket for its head. The screw 3 fastening the intermediary insert 8 is located diagonally relative to the main plane of the sash frame and screwed in the wider part of the side member of the window sash 2, passing by the thinned wall formed between the recess 21 for the hinge and the recess 23 for mounting the roof window pane going along the whole length of the sash frame side member.
The hinge sub-assembly 7 fastened to the window sash frame 2 is adjacent with its fastening plate 72 to the side surface 22 of the recess in the frame, and the locating pins 73 of the fastening plate are entered into the holes 81 in the intermediary inserts 8. The fastening plate 72 is secured to the window sash frame 2 with screws 31 perpendicular to this plate, and at the same time parallel to the main plane of the sash frame, which in the case of a flat pane is identical with the pane surface.
