Abstract

A device for visually indicating a desired temperature or viscosity of a substance, the device comprising: at least a heat label formed from a thermochromic material, the thermochromic material adapted to reversibly change between a first and second colour state at a predetermined temperature; wherein the heat label is in thermal communication with the substance such that the heat label changes from the first colour state to the second colour state when the substance reaches the predetermined temperature to visually indicate either the temperature or viscosity of the substance. The device can be in the form of a container or stirrer for a curable substance. In particular the device is adapted to indicate the extent of polymerization of polymethylmethacrylate for use in orthopaedic surgery, to determine when the polymethylmethacrylate is at the appropriate stage of curing for use.
