[DESCRIPTION] [Invention Title]
METHOD OF MODIFYING STONE SURFACE AND STONE MADE BY USING THE SAME [Technical Field]
<i> The present invention relates to a method for modifying stone surface pattern and the stone made by the method, in which the stone such as marble is used for making tables and desks. Especially it relates to the method for modifying pattern on the stone surface, which is able to reform a low quality stone into a high quality stone with gorgeous pattern adding various colors and patterns even though the method is composed of simple manufacturing process. [Background Art]
<2> Generally, a stone has high durability and beautiful natural patterns on the surface so that it is used as basic material for buildings and high quality furniture. There are various kinds of stones, which are ranked according to their pattern, color, structure and transparency. The color and pattern of stones are usually used as they are, but sometimes another color and pattern are added as necessary.
<3> There are some methods to put colors and patterns on the stone. A stone can be dyed through the method of spreading paint on its surface with spray, brush or roller and of putting it in the container filled with dyes, and it can have pattern through the method of printing pattern on its surface directly, or of pouring paint onto the stone engraved in intaglio. There is also another way to put pattern and color by using the method of building up an imitation stone such as an artificial marble on the surface of stone.
<4> It is difficult to create various colors and patterns on the surface of a stone because it can be dyed only with a single color. Also, when color and pattern are directly printed on the surface of stone, it produces low quality of printing because of the special quality of the material. The method of making a stone engraved in intaglio and pouring paint onto it also does not give satisfied result despite of the hard progress of work. The method of
building up an artificial marble on the surface of stone also has limitation to express patterns and colors.
<5> Thus, there are some difficulties to add colors and patterns, and even though they are added, it is difficult to make natural expression. Moreover, it is extremely difficult to add natural colors, and elegant and high quality patterns, and there is a problem that the added colors and patterns are easily to be discolored. [Disclosure] [Technical Solution]
<6> The present invention intends to solve the above problems hitherto involved. An object thereof is to provide the stone made according to the method of modifying pattern on the stone surface and the method which is able to create attractive colors and patterns harmonized with natural patterns of stone by adding various colors and elegant and high quality patterns and maintaining the natural colors and patterns.
<7> To achieve the purpose, the method of modifying patterns on the surface of stone of the present invention comprises; the step of preparing and manufacturing a base stone in accordance with the needed dimension; the step of covering the base stone with transparent or translucent cloth having color or pattern; the step of impregnating a cloth with transparent resins and at the same time fixing the cloth on the stone; and the step of drying the applied resins and polishing the surface.
<8> After carrying out the step of manufacturing and preparing the base stone in accordance with the needed dimension, the step of dying stone can be added when it is necessary. The surface of stone can be dyed through applying dyes and colorant on it using spray, brush or roller, or through putting a stone into the basket filled with dyes for some period.
<9> As an another example of the present invention, it provides a new character stone made according to the method, whose basic pattern is harmonized with colors and patterns on the cloth which becomes more transparent as being impregnated with transparent resin.
<io> A relatively low quality stone is able to be transformed to a high quality stone using the method of modifying stone surface of the present invention. A completely new stone with attractive patterns could be created while maintaining the natural colors and patterns of the base stone, expressing harmoniously its natural and original patterns with naturally added various colors and patterns, and harmonizing with colors and patterns expressed on the cloth.

[Description of Drawings]
<i3> Fig. 1 is a work flowchart which shows the method of modifying surface according to the present invention.
<i4> Fig. 2 shows a section of the stone made according to the methe modifying stone surface of the present invention.
<i5> Fig.3 is an example of the base stone used for the method of modi stone surface according to the present invention.
<i6> Fig. 4 shows the surface of the stone made according to the methc modifying stone surface of the present invention. [Mode for Invention]
<17> Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be forth in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
<18> Fig. 1 is a work flowchart showing the method of modifying s surface in order, according to the present invention.
<19> The first is the step (100) of preparing and manufacturing the s made according to the needed dimension. For example, in case of the ma used for tables or desks, it is the step of preparing the base stone of w surface is fundamentally treated and cut in accordance with the size of upper side of a table. When it is necessary, the degree of flat and smo and transparency of the surface can be improved by polishing the s surface as a prior step. A base stone includes an artificial stone such a artificial marble because it is also able to be used as a base stone of present invention as well as a natural stone such as the natural marble w is mainly used as a base stone. The present invention can be also aρplie< the process of manufacturing an artificial stone before completing process of making the artificial stone.
<20> The next is the step (200) of dying the stone surface. In case c natural stone, dyes and paints can be spread on the stone surface by spra? brush and dried when it is necessary. The effect of dying can be improvec dipping a stone into the container filled with dyes for some period bec< dyes can be saturated into the stone structure. The step of dying a stone
be omitted when it is not necessary. It is needed to dry the stone for some period when dying the stone.
<2i> The step (300) is to cover the base stone with a transparent or translucent cloth having color or pattern on it. The cloth can be fixed by clamping or using tape and glue. The transparent or translucent cloth is used in order not to veil the color and pattern on the surface of the base stone by a cloth. Silk is a preferred cloth because thinner is better for cloth to have high transparency, but it is not just confined to silk. Silk is suitable for adding color and pattern because it is easy to make it thin and transparent .
<22> Step (400) is to spread resin in order to fix a cloth on the stone and at the same time to impregnate the cloth with transparent resins such as unsaturated ester paint after covering stone with the cloth. When resin is applied to a thin transparent or translucent cloth, the cloth is impregnated with resin. It is progressed under the one process to fix and coat the resinated cloth. Every transparent resin including urethane paint or UV paint is able to be used. Here, those kinds of paints are defined as resin.
<23> When resin is applied to a thin and transparent cloth, the cloth becomes completely transparent. The pattern on the surface of a base stone becomes unveiled, not veiled by the cloth' s texture, and the colors and patterns on the cloth become distinct as the cloth is getting transparent. It is the same phenomenon as that in which a thin transparent or translucent cloth gets more transparent as it gets drenched. Completely new pattern is created by harmonizing the natural patterns of the base stone with the colors and patterns of the cloth.
<24> It is possible to carry out the step (400) of covering a transparent cloth with colors and patterns, and the step (300)of applying resin to fix a cloth on the stone more than twice when it is necessary, A stone with attractive patterns can be created and various colors and patterns can be added by using more than two folds of cloth. It is also possible to apply resin more than twice after impregnating a stone with cloth.
<25> Step (500) of polishing and drying the surface after impregnating a stone with a cloth by using transparent resin is to complete the work of adding colors and patterns onto a stone.
<26> If resin is dry while it is reiterated to cover a stone with a cloth and to apply resin, resin should be applied after polishing the resin surface to prevent exfoliation.
<27> Fig. 2 is a drawing which shows a sectional diagram of the stone made according to the method of modifying stone surface of the present invention. This sectioned diagram is drawn exaggeratingly to improve visuality for the sake of convenience. The thickness of the layer is possibly different from practical implementation.
<28> After covering a pretreated base stone(lθ) with a transparent cloth(20) having colors and patterns and applying transparent resin(30) on it, the cloth(20) and the space between the cloth(20) and the stone(lθ) are impregnated with resin(30). Resin (30) fixes the cloth (20) on the stone (10) and coats the cloth (20) by impregnating the cloth (20) with resin (30). The cloth (20) is able to be fixed on the stone (10) by completing the final work and drying resin (30). The pattern on the surface of the base stone (10) is maintained not veiled by the transparent cloth, and is harmonized with added colors and patterns of the cloth (20). In this way, a new stone is created by harmonizing the pattern of the base stone with added pattern from the cloth.
<29> Fig. 3 shows an example of the base stone used for the method of modifying stone surface according to the present invention. Generally, the method of modifying stone surface of the present invention is applied to the stone classified as low level or low class.
<30> Fig. 4 is a drawing which illustrates the stone surface made according to the method of modifying stone surface of the present invention. For example, a stone with completely new pattern and style is created by using the method of modifying stone surface of the present invention using a stone such as the one illustrated on Fig.3 as a base stone.
