Abstract

(312; 412) An integrated converter/inverter system includes (450) a direct current bus (312; 412) for connecting to an array of photovoltaic cells without use of a voltage transforming device, an alternating current bus (314,- 414) for connecting to a load (306; 406) an energy storage bus (452) for connecting to an energy storage subsystem (324; 424) an inverter or an inverter/ charger (304; 404) connected between the direct current bus and the alternating current bus for interfacing the direct current bus with the alternating current bus, and a DC-to-DC converter (322; 422) connected between the direct current bus and the energy storage bus for interfacing the direct current bus with the energy storage bus. The DC-to-DC converter supports bidirectional power transfer between the direct current bus and the energy storage bus.
