Description
LIFTER FOR A WASHING MACHINE
The present invention relates to a lifter comprising a rectangular region for leaning against an internal surface of a laundry drum; at least one fastening element disposed on said rectangular region to fasten said lifter to the drum; lateral surfaces raised upward by a first angle from said rectangular region; front surfaces raised upward by a second angle from the rectangular region, so that said lateral surfaces and front surfaces combine at a predetermined upper line so as to yield an essentially triangular pyramid formation.
A drum of a washing machine is embodied by combining folded sheet metal end to end so as to obtain an annular structure. Such sheet metal has perforated structures, these perforations providing liquid transfer into the drum from a tub wherein the drum is disposed. Additionally, on an inner side of the drum and at the connecting edges of such folded sheet metals, a lifter is disposed for supporting a stable attachment there between. Another lifter may be disposed distant from these connecting edges. The principal purpose of a lifter is to lift laundry placed into the drum from a bottom region of the drum and to let it fall down again after having been lifted somewhat, for agitating the laundry to effect a rubbing and squeezing action to remove dirt and stain. As desired, a lifter may be placed on the seam formed by the connecting edges to mask the seam from direct viewing.
With respect to the prior art, a lifter generally resembles the form of a triangular pyramid extending along a combining surface. This structure avoids the deformation of the drum surface at the end of a certain period of use that may arise from the weight of laundry put into the drum.
This embodiment, however, requires to being improved. One of the requirements is that, even if the current machines have a sufficient washing efficiency, the form of the current lifter may still partially avoid the laundry's movement within the drum. More specifically, the more the laundry is rotated within the drum, the more it contacts with the perforated surface of the drum so that a more efficient cleaning and washing is provided.
In brief, a novelty is necessitated in the relevant technical field, which would overcome the aforesaid problem.
The present invention relates to a washing machine lifter, eliminating aforesaid problems and bringing new advantages to the relevant technical field.
The main objective of the present invention is to provide a lifter, which will allow the laundry within the drum to rotate more freely, and will increase the washing efficiency at the same time.
According to the objectives mentioned above and to emerge from the following detailed description, the present invention provides a lifter comprising a rectangular region for leaning against an internal surface of a laundry drum; at least one fastening element disposed on said rectangular region to fasten said lifter to the drum; lateral surfaces raised upward by a first angle from said rectangular region; front surfaces raised upward by a second angle from the rectangular region, so that said lateral surfaces and front surfaces combine at a predetermined upper line so as to yield an essentially triangular pyramid formation. A rotatable round bar is attached to said lifter at said upper line to contact laundry passing along said lifter.
Accordingly, the lifter according to the invention includes a rotatable bar which ensures that laundry passing along said lifter as mounted to a laundry drum containing laundry and being rotated may move smoothly and with a substantially reduced friction along the lifter. This is accomplished by rotating the bar upon passing the laundry, thus avoiding friction at the upper line of the lifter.
In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, said mutual front surfaces comprise two slots, one each formed at the tip section of one of two mutual surfaces so that said round bar is placed into said slots.
In another preferred embodiment of the present invention, said round bar has a structural form that complements the lateral surfaces so as to provide an adequate projection from the combining points of lateral surfaces, and comprises two pins, one each provided at one of two mutual ends to enter into the slot in the front surface.
Yet in another preferred embodiment of the present invention, said round bar is not single- piece, but is composed of a plurality of parts. Even more preferred, such parts may be rotatable independently of one another.
Still in another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the surface structure of said round bar comprises recessions and/or projections.
Still in a further preferred embodiment of the present invention, the surface structure of said round bar has a grooved formation.
Structural and characteristic features and all advantages of the present invention shall be made clear by means of annexed figures described here below and a detailed description written by making references to said figures; therefore the present invention must be evaluated by taking said figures and the detailed description into consideration.

In the following detailed description, the subject novelty shall be described illustratively by means of examples as illustrated in the annexed figures, which serve only to make clear the present invention without imposing any restrictions thereon. Accordingly, it has been assumed here that the present invention is applied to a washing machine in the following detailed description. The present invention, however, can similarly be applied to any household or industrial machine comprising a drum, such as a drying machine.
Figure 1 illustrates a drum (1 ) into which laundry is placed in a washing machine. Here, three folded metal sheets (1.1 ) are used for making up the surface of the drum (1 ). Both ends of each such sheet metal are provided with elements to provide the connection with the next sheet metal, as well as with three slots into which the fastening elements of the lifter (1.2) are introduced. The surfaces of these sheet metals have a bored or perforated structure. Water inlet is provided into the drum (1 ) by means of these orifices. Once the sheet metals are joined end to end, they yield a circle, and are mounted on a frame of which the middle is open from the front. In the interior of the drum (1 ), a lengthwise- extending lifter (1.2) is disposed at the combining point (1.2.2.1 ) of the folded metal sheets (1 -1 )- This structure provides a better attachment between the folded metal sheets (1.1 ) and thus improves their strength against the internal forces caused by external influences.
Figure 2 illustrates said lifter (1.2) from below. Here, the lower surface of the lifter (1.2) is embodied in the form of a rectangular surface (1.2.3). The edge structure of this surface is curved. A lateral surface (1.2.2) extends upwards from the longer edge of the rectangular surface (1.2.3), and similarly a front surface (1.2.1 ) extends upwards from the shorter edges of said rectangular surface (1.2.3). Said lateral surface (1.2.2) and front surface (1.2.1 ) combine at an upper point, so as to yield a triangular pyramid-like structure. Three fastening elements (1.2.3.1 ) are provided along the longer edge of the rectangular surface (1.2.3). These fastening element (1.2.3.1 ) extend sufficiently downward from said longer edges and then produce an outward projection. Additionally, 6 supporting ribs (1.2.4) are disposed in the interior of the lifter (1.2) for supporting both the lateral surfaces (1.2.2) and said fastening element (1.2.3.1 ). Said supporting ribs (1.2.4) avoid any damages to occur on the lateral surfaces (1.2.2) and fastening element (1.2.3.1 ), when a pressure is exerted against the lifter (1.2) during operation.
Figure 3 gives a front cross-sectional view of the lifter (1.2). Here, said fastening elements (1.2.3.1 ) are disposed inwardly to some distance from the lower surface edge of the
lateral surfaces (1.2.2) with a predetermined angle. The round bar (1.2.5) is positioned at the upper section of the lifter (1.2) and between two lateral surfaces (1.2.2). As can be seen from the figure as well, the round bar (1.2.5) has a form that enables itself to complement the curved structure of the upper part of said lateral surfaces (1.2.2) at the upper part of the lifter (1.2). The tip parts of the round bar (1.2.5) are provided with one each pin (1.2.5.1 ) formed so as to engage into the slots provided on the front surface (1.2.1 ). The surface structure of the round bar support (1.2.5) is straight. If the laundry within the drum (1 ) hits said lifter (1.2) as the drum (1 ) is rotated, it is hereby ensured that the laundry carries on the rotational movement by means of this round bar support (1.2.5). Thus the laundry is rotated relatively more and is cleaned better.
The protection scope of the present invention is set forth in the annexed Claims and is not to be restricted to the illustrative disclosures given above, under the detailed description. It is because a person skilled in the relevant art can obviously produce similar embodiments under the light of the foregoing disclosures, without departing from the main principles of the present invention.
