Description

DESCRIPTION
MATTRESS AND HOME TEXTILE PRODUCTS HAVING THE CAPABILITY OF SHIELDING ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES
Siϊbject of the Invention
This invention is about the usage of conductive fabrics, which have the property of weakening electromagnetic field effects, in mattress, comforter, pillow and similar home textiles .
State of Prior Art
It is a well known fact that many devices and systems working with electrical energy emit electromagnetic waves . Electromagnetic field that is present in every environment where electricity is used affects human health adversely.
The electromagnetic waves emitted by devices that are being used increasingly in recent years like radio and television data stations, CRT monitors and computers, cell phone base stations, cell phones and home appliances, except specifically manufactured products, affect human health adversely.
Electromagnetic waves have two kinds of effects on living organisms: thermal and non-thermal. The thermal effect is defined as absorption of electromagnetic energy by the human body and a consequential increase in the body temperature due to conversion of this energy to heat. This effect is balanced through blood circulation. Among the disorders and sicknesses alleged to be arising from RF' (radio frequency) waves, which are caused by non-thermal effects, are changes in brain activity, attention disorders and headache.
Since absorption of electromagnetic waves by human beings cause adverse effects in eyes, reproductive organs, the nervous system, and the circulation system, there are studies aimed at decreasing the electromagnetic field effect.
Studies aimed at decreasing or eliminating the adverse effects of electromagnetic waves on human health focuses on protective products used to isolate the human body from electromagnetic fields. Since in today's world, there is hardly ever an environment in which there is not any electromagnetic field.
Especially considering that on the average one third of human life is spent on sleeping; eliminating the electromagnetic field effects which is being subjected to during sleep provides the reducing of these adverse effects of electromagnetic field on human health. Warnings about not using televisions, computers, radios, cell phones and similar devices in bedrooms are aimed at decreasing the effect of electromagnetic fields which is being subjected to during sleep.
A mattress which protects against infrared rays is known to be registered under patent number KR20010083016. Nevertheless, this mattress which is the subject of this patent consists of circular silver or gold pieces, riveted to the mattress, which provide emissions countering infrared rays that are present in the non-ionized radiation region of the electromagnetic spectrum. These pieces which are placed at the center of the mattress make little bumps on the surface of the mattress, which affects the comfort of the bed adversely. Moreover, the difficulty in manufacturing and fastening the metals to the mattress are among the disadvantages of this bed. Since metal pieces do not have applications for products like pillows and comforters, it is obvious that they can not provide a comprehensive protection against infrared rays .
On the other hand, the patent numbered EPIl 66686 aims to reduce the electromagnetic field effect and prevent accumulations of static electric by mattress material, mattress surface, cover or slipcover that are furnished with wires. These wires consist of a non-conducting central wire and a conductive wire wrapped around it. This conductive wire is surrounded by a non-conducting outer layer and a conducting inner layer. The wires mentioned in the patent are hard and brittle wires. They are used to provide the material with an electromagnetic field weakening property. Nevertheless, a closed and insulated area against the electromagnetic field can not be created in this invention. Moreover, the wires which are the subject of this invention may cause undesired effects like itchiness and allergy when they contact the skin, due to their hardness. The possibility of the breaking off these wires when washed is high as well. Thus, the electromagnetic field weakening capacity of this invention, which is not practical and healthy, is low. With the wires breaking off in time, these properties can even cease to exist completely.
In the present state of art, conductive metal filaments are used in mattresses. But in none of these applications the bed i
can have the property of protection from electromagnetic field. For example, the mattress that is the subject of the utility model numbered TR 2007/05139 is covered with fabric woven with carbon wires and thus made conductive. The carbon wires used in the mattress that is the subject of the invention do not provide protection from electromagnetic fields. It just removes the effect of the electromagnetic field or the static energy accumulated for various reasons in the human body. Many mattresses used in the present state of art have similar antistatic properties.
A closed area against the electromagnetic waves or rays can not be created with the inventions mentioned above or similar applications. Complete protection against the effect of electromagnetic fields can be achieved in an environment where there are no waves. In the present state of art, there is no home textile product like a mattress, comforter, pillow or mattress which eliminates or decreases the adverse effects of electromagnetic fields on human health.
Detailed Description of the Invention
This invention is about home textile products like mattresses (3), comforters (5) and pillows (4) which are made of fabric (1) that has shielding property to decrease the electromagnetic field effect emitted by devices frequently used in daily life like cellular phones, computers, radios, televisions and so on.
This invention is about the usage of a special fabric (1) knitted or weaved by metal filaments which can weaken electromagnetic waves that have a frequency of 0-300 GHz and that are soft enough not to harm sleep quality in home textile products like mattresses (3) , comforters (5) and pillows (4 ) .
The fabric (1) used is manufactured by knitting or weaving metal filaments with high conductivity. It is soft enough to be used as mattress (3) cover and it does not cause allergic or similar adversities upon contact with skin.
With the application of the conductive structure (2) obtained by knitting or weaving highly conductive filaments and the fabric that reflects and absorbs electromagnetic waves to the manufacture of mattresses (3), pillows (4) and comforters (5) the human body is protected from electromagnetic field as seen in Figure 1.
The pillow (4) made of a conductive fabric (1) that decreases the effect of electromagnetic field effects is shown in Figure 2. The pillow (4) is manufactured with a weaving technique such that the conductive metal filaments will form a net and the soft touching is manufactured using the fabric that is the subject of the patent numbered TR 2008/000212.
The comforter (5) that is made of a conductive fabric which decreases the electromagnetic field effect is shown in Figure 3. In order for the whole area covered by the comforter (5) to be isolated from electromagnetic fields, it is important that conductivity of the fabric (1) that covers the surface of the comforter (5) is continuous. Thus, for the innovation that is the subject of this invention to be in effect, it is important that the fabric is conductive (2) and conductivity is continuous. In the cross section of the comforter that is shown in Figure 3a, the outermost layer represents the fabric (1) that decreases the electromagnetic field effect, the intermediary layer represent the interlining (9) or any material that provides a property desired for the comforter, and the lower layer represents the filling (7) . To provide the comforter with thermal balancing property, outlast or a similar filling (9) can be placed in the second layer.
Due to the properties of the fabric, which makes the outermost layer of the comforter, that decreases electromagnetic field effects, a healthy and comfy comforter is obtained. The mattress which decreases electromagnetic field effects and which is manufactured from a fabric (1) that has soft touch is shown in Figure 4. Using this fabric (1) , which is also used in the pillow and the comforter, the mattress is equipped with the property of reflecting and absorbing electromagnetic waves present in the environment.
With the combined usage of the pillow (4), the mattress (3,), and the comforter (5) in which the fabric (1) providing the properties mentioned above, an environment isolated from electromagnetic field is obtained.
It is possible to provide the mattress (3) with extra properties like the comforter (5) . For example, in the cross section of the mattress (3) in Figure 4a, personalized fillings (7) like springs, felting, fiber, interlining or sponge can be applied to the second layer, third layer or other layers to provide the mattress with desired properties.
As seen in Figure 1, a combined usage of the pillow (4), comforter (5) and the mattress (3) creates an environment insulated from electromagnetic field. The electromagnetic field effect reducing property of the electromagnetic field reducing fabric (l)and its softness is brought in to the other home textile products along with its other properties (thermal balance, delayed inflammability, etc.).
The fabric (1) having electromagnetic field reducing property that is to be used in home textile products, as described in the patent numbered TR 2008/000212, has to be soft and possess high shielding capability. Thus, a healthy and comfortable sleeping set is obtained which decreases the electromagnetic field effect being subjected to during sleep, in which one third of human life is spent.
Due to high conductivity of the fabric (1) which is used to cover the home textile products that are the subject of the invention, anti static property of home textile products known in the present state of art is provided as well.
With this innovation in bed fabrics, an environment which provides protection from electromagnetic field effects is obtained and thus a healthy and comfortable sleeping environment is provided. Due to extra properties supplied like delayed inflammability, thermal balance, softness, and being orthopedic to the mattress (3) , comforter (5) and pillow (4) made of conductive fabric (1), all of the properties expected from home textiles are presented together.
