Abstract

An immersion type membrane separator (31) has a casing (33) having an opening in the upper part thereof, flat plate-like membrane cartridges (34) arranged at spaced intervals in the casing (33), and an air diffuser (36) installed under the membrane cartridges (34). The membrane cartridges (34) are held in the cartridge (33) at vertical intervals α so as to be movable in the vertical direction. Rising suppression members (63a, 63b) are installed in the casing (33). In filtering operation, the rising suppression members (63a, 63b) limit the amount of rising of the membrane cartridges (34) to be smaller than the vertical intervals α.
