Abstract
This invention relates to scissors and more particularly, but not exclusively, to scissors for use in the field of hairdressing. According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a pair of scissors (1) comprising a first member (2) and a second member (3); each member including an operating lever (4) and a plurality of blades (5); the first and second members being pivotally connected to one another so as to provide a plurality of co-operating pairs of blades, operable by a single pair of operating levers.
Description
SCISSORS
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to scissors and more particularly, but not exclusively, to scissors for use in the field of hairdressing.
BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION
Various cutting tools are known in the art of hairdressing including blades, razors, cutthroats and serrated thinning shears, as well as conventional scissors.
These various cutting tools are all provided so as to assist a hairdresser in executing a hair design; each one being configured to create a particular effect.
Conventional scissors are typically used for more solid, heavier internal and external design finishes-internally, by layering or graduating so as to remove or create weight or volume; and externally, by determining length and perimeter design.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the invention to provide a cutting tool which seeks to augment or compliment the cutting tools available to the hairdressing industry and so offer hair stylists a wider scope and choice of technique available for employment in hair design.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a pair of scissors comprising a first member; and a second member; each member including an operating lever and a plurality of blades; - the first and second members being pivotally connected to one another so as to provide a plurality of co-operating pairs of blades, operable by a single pair of operating levers.
Preferably, the blades of each member are aligned in a parallel arrangement.
The respective pairs of blades may be of equal length. Preferably, the blades are between 110mm and 160mm long. Alternatively, the respective pairs of blades may be of different lengths.
Each operating lever may terminate in a looped handle. The handle may be connected to the lever by a swivel arrangement.
The respective handles may be differently spaced from the pivot such that in operation, when used by a user on the user's thumb and ring finger, the user's hand may be held in an open position.
The invention will now be described, by way of non-limiting example only, with reference to the following figures, wherein
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of scissors in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a top view of the pair of scissors shown in figure 1 ; and
Figure 3 is a side view of the pair of scissors shown in figure 1.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
A pair of scissors (1), in accordance with the invention and as shown in the accompanying figures, comprises a first member (2) and a second member (3).
Each of the members (2 and 3) includes an operating lever (4), connected to a plurality of blades (5).
The members (2 and 3) are connected about a pivot (6) so as to provide a plurality of co-operating pairs of blades.
In the embodiment shown, 3 pairs of blades are provided, but it will be appreciated that more or less blades could be provided, depending on the effect desired.
Each of the operating levers terminates in a looped handle (7 and 8). In the embodiment shown, the handles (7 and 8) are differently spaced from the pivot, so as to allow a user to use the scissors with a relatively open hand. In operation, the user would insert the thumb through handle (7) and the ring finger through handle (8), with the relative spacing allowing a more open, relaxed hand position than is the case with handles equalling spaced from the pivot.
Although not shown, the levers (4) may each be provided with a swivel, allowing rotation of the handles (7 and 8) about an axis substantially parallel to the respective levers.
In operation, the scissors (1) described allow both straight-line cutting (as shown in figure 4), using an outer pair of blades along a particular line, and textured cutting (as shown in figure 5), by angling the blades (5) such that the
end of each pair of blades cuts a section of hair, between them creating a jagged line.
The scissors described thus provide an alternative cutting tool, allowing a hairdresser further options in arriving at a desired hair design.
It will be appreciated that various embodiments of the invention could be made, such as changing dimensioned on the number of pairs of blades, without departing from the scope of the invention as set out hereinabove.
Claims
1. A pair of scissors comprising
- a first member; and - a second member;
