Abstract

The water-holding material and water-absorbing gel composition according to the invention contain carbon black which is self-dispersible in water and exhibits excellent dispersibility in water and which can impart light resistance to a water -absorbing resin when added thereto even in a small amount, so that the water-holding material has both high water-absorbing power and high light resistance, while the water-absorbing gel composition has both high water-holding capacity and high light resistance. A water-holding material comprising (A) carbon black self-dispersible in water and (B) a water-absorbing resin; and a water-absorbing gel composition comprising (A) carbon black self-dispersible in water, (B) a water-absorbing resin, and water.
