A recording device (1) comprises a recording means (213) for recording contents data on a first data area (112) and a second data area (122) of a recordable recording medium having recording layers by applying a laser beam (LB), a first reading means (213) for reading capacity information indicating the recording capacities of the respective data areas, a second reading means (221) for reading management information which is information for managing data, and a dividing means (221) for dividing data according to the capacity information and the management information.
